Blur focused on May 25

Activision slots in Bizarre Creations' car-combat racer for later this spring on Xbox 360, PS3, PC; beta sign-ups now available.

Activision currently has its hands full with the PR fiasco surrounding the dismissal of Infinity Ward cofounders Vince Zampella and Jason Ward. The publisher would undoubtedly prefer to keep eyes on its games, however. Doing its part to oblige, Bizarre Creations said this week that its action racer Blur will shift onto the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC on May 25 in North America and May 28 in Europe.

Blur is Bizarre Creations' first racer since being acquired by Activision in 2007, and the studio is known primarily for its Project Gotham Racing and Geometry Wars franchises. The game was initially slated for a November premiere, before Activision delayed it to 2010 so as to improve the game's online multiplayer component.

As for that multiplayer experience, Blur's allows up to 20 cars to compete online in the game's Mario Kart-meets-Project Gotham Racing-style driving. Online racers will be offered a variety of ways to customize their matches, and the game will also accommodate four-player local split-screen racing. The game features more than 50 licensed cars, as well as a variety of real-world locales, such as Barcelona, Spain, and San Francisco, California.

Check out GameSpot's hands-on with the multiplayer beta for an idea of what to expect. Full disclosure: GameSpot is currently engaged in a Blur multiplayer beta key giveaway with Activision.

    Sorry Bizarre creations you picked the WRONG Publisher in Activision, I wont touch any of their games, because they are corporate crooks. Shame!

    @AZE160

    Release dates on most sites are pure speculation, predictions and can also change do to developer delays. This game actually was due last November, but the developers wanted to polish up the multiplayer aspect first and thats why it was delayed. The trick is watching the developers website for the dates, and or look for the words "Gone Gold". "Gone Gold" is the industries phrase stating there product has been finished, put on a master disc, and sent off to be mass produced.

    From this video, it looks pretty bad; a mashup of Need For Speed and Mario Kart, ghettoized.

    If you want arcade racing, ModNation Racers looks like a much better bet.

    I can tell you first hand since I have early beta access thanks to another game site, that this game rocks. If you like fast pace, on the edge of your seat, arcade like racing, get your hands on a key. Theres nothing like getting blown off the road by a fellow player only to catch up to him or her and take the win by blowing there vehicle off the road. Sweet revenge! The multi-player game play does not disappoint, especially the 20 player. Talk about chaos.

    Shouldn't it have more arcade-like feeling than realistic with power-ups? I think we better wait for Twisted Metal PS3.

    Glowing Bubbles as weapons? What next... a splash of rainbow fruitiness? Why not like machine guns, missles, mines, grease, fog, etc...? If it's going to look realistic, make it play and feel realistic too. Where do these little glowing balls come from anyway? The tailpipe of the cars when you wiggle the stick back and forth? Leave the balls and rainbows to your boyfriends guys. Sorry... NEXT.
