Sony offers free game with PSP Go purchase

Those who pick up download-only portable now through March 21 will receive a code to download Little Big Planet or Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines.

Last October, Sony Computer Entertainment America launched the PSP Go in North America with a great deal of hoopla, including the addition of more than 100 new titles to the PlayStation Network downloadable game service. However, one thing the company didn’t launch the system with was a free game, which made some portable players envious of the complimentary copy of Gran Turismo that their European PSP counterparts enjoyed.

Any potential purchasers turned off by that news now have reason to give the system a second look, as Sony today announced a promotion that will give new PSP Go adopters a free copy of either Little Big Planet or Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines. Gamers who buy a Go between now and March 21, 2010, will have a redemption code for the game of their choice e-mailed to them by logging onto the PlayStation Network from their new systems.

Serving as a bridge between the original Assassin's Creed and the recently released sequel, Bloodlines picks up the story of Altair after the first game's events. Developed by Griptonite Games (the studio behind the DS and PSP editions of X-Men Origins: Wolverine), Bloodlines incorporates open-world exploration and combat based on the original Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC game, with a variety of new mission types thrown in.

As for Little Big Planet, the PSP version includes an all-new campaign in which players platform and puzzle their way through vibrant levels. It also incorporates the franchise's hallmark level-creation element, where gamers can devise their own intricate environments from scratch and then share their creations with others online.

    I'm surely NOT going to purchase games I own on UMD AGAIN. So what is the future lineup that will make me purchase games moving forward.Sorry Sony...when I travel I don't want to carry 2 PSP's so I can have my library with me. Give me the ability to download previous purchases for FREE. Only incentive to buy this.

    I like the PSP Go,if they had launched the handheld at a lower price,
    it would of sold so much better.

    @trogetron Yet, i can see Sony slowly stopping production on UMD and then hoping that this will be the way to convince people to go this route. Sony has also been pushing for the everyday user for the go on their commercials, so you aren't exactly bang on there in your statement.

    Also on a side note, Assassin's Creed Bloodlines was a huge let down, i couldn't see this as a very good free incentive.

    I know the sales in Japan are pretty low. They are selling worse than 360s and ps2s. I don't know, even if my psp 2000 broke I would probably only upgrade to the 3000 so I can still play all my old games. I don't think download only was the way to go for the Go.

    man they have too many people that are ignoring the fact why they came out with the psp go.. dude it for people that are always on the go and don't have time or room to carry around all these games.. so they can just switch them without changing anything they can just switch through the system it's where you can do EVERY thing from the console.. the go is great for what it's made for it's not really for people who want the newest psp.. so just chill with the hate on the go.. no one is forcing you to buy one

    has there been any retail sales data on the GO yet? How many units sold? I imagine the number is extremely low, but I'm curious as to how low. I haven't seen a system flop this bad since Game.com.

    Honestly, they should give you a free system with the purchase of a game. That's the only way most people would get one.

    @OGKNav it is a bummer that the entire psp library may not be on psn, i wouldn't say the jokes on me but i didn't expect the entire psp library to be available... so try not to get ahead of yourself there...

    If the psp would've worked like the Go from the beginning that would've been groovy but failing to provide owners of older psp models with a way to get digital versions of their games and failing to get every psp game on psn really makes it a questionable purchase.

    i know its a bad thing to say but the psp go is old news.the thing is that the old psp version can be moddefied and you can download the games on the internet put it on youre memory stick and play it for free. the only reason sony is doing this so that the can stop the piracy.but if they want to stop it make the games cheaper. if the game new in stock of course is at gamestop for 35 bucks and sony sells them for 40 bucks online.wouldnt that be some kind piracy?

    I've had a PSP-3000 now for just over a month and I'm enjoying it completely. I would have gotten a PSPGo but my hands are pretty big plus I wanted UMD so I can buy older titles on disc used. of course mine came with a game, I got the Ratchet and Clank edition. I am not interested in Assassin's Creed or Little Big Planet so I still feel as though I made a wise choice. But I've started downloading games and the extra memory would have come in handy. However using my PS3-250gig to hold all my movies, music and games that I take with me on the PSP helps me stay organized. I think the beauty of the machine cannot be realized till you hook it up to a PS3. The combination beats everything out of the water.

    I'm with cjasko94, the PSP Go is not an upgrade to previous PSP's. It targets a specific market and Sony has always said this. Its for people who don't want to carry around a bunch a UMD's, memory sticks, etc. You slap in another 16MB and you've got 32MB of gaming, music, movie, comic books, etc. The best feature I like is the save and resume game at anytime. Its a great device for what it was suppose to be. If it was an upgrade to PSP 3000 then yeah it would suck. And although the PS store has improved in the minis and PSP exclusive categories, the actual PSP UMD game library sucks. Yeah the have been putting every new release on there but past classic tittles have yet to be added. Thats where Sony has failed. Pricing could be better but I understand the whole thing about undercutting B&M.

    I got mine around Xmas time and it came with a Rock Band Lite free game. I would have preferred Assassin's Creed though. I still play my 3000 more, mostly because I have bigger hands and its more comfortable. But only having to pay for a game once and play it on both systems is nice.

    I like my old psp. It plays all the old games and i don't have to pay top dollar to download them again. Sorry Sony, I'm with them.

    I really don't understand why they released this instead of creating an actual update to the psp. I'm sure these things are pretty hard to make, and I know sony has to be recouping the losses from the ps3 they suffered when it initially launched. No upgraded controls and no backwards compatibility for UMD people already own? I believe downloads are the future, and honestly love the idea of downloading full games for a handheld, but i really don't understand wtf they were thinking with the go. Maybe it was cheaper to make?

    If the download only system is working right you wouldn't be paying more than you do on Amazon. After you subtract packaging (like the box, manual, and disc) and shipping you're ;eft with costs that can be significantly reduced.
    I've heard of companies buying and selling used digital download games, it didn't make much sense, but I've heard of a company trying to sell the idea (on Gameindustry.biz).

    Anyways, I can't see Sony or Microsoft not giving the option to go download only next gen.

    You could give out free games all you want, but unless you make the library's for Go and the other UMD'd PSPs, then the Go won't be a competitor. I'm starting to regret getting my Go myself, they STILL haven't posted one of their best selling titles on PSN, Crisis Core itself!!

    People, SONY never said the PSP Go was an upgrade for previous PSP owners. UMDs flat out suck. Long loading times, (I) don't like carrying around little cheap plastic games if I am in the public or wherever. The only good thing with those were is that you can buy/sell/trade them and I guess find them cheaper. PSP Go best design, and more features. I do agree that the price is way to high though. And I do believe they gave me Rock Band Unplugged for free. And that was in November.

    This move cannot be seen as a great business decision. Sony has a history of making great consoles and handhelds, the Go is not one of them. I would rather be able to purchase the UMD's. They may take room, but at least i can pretty much guarantee that i will be able to get it for cheaper when retailers are looking to move the units, something that Sony won't have to do ever as it is only one file available on their servers.

    people who keep wanting a second analog stick, im kind of with you.. i do think having one would be good. BUT i would rather them wait unrtil the PSP2 before they do this.. they cant brring out a PSP now that still plays PSP games, as they are all made for use with just the one.. if PSPgo had two analog sticks, its be messed up.. unless they made PSPgo its own games.. which they wouldnt do because i don think itll be too long for the PSP2.. when you thin about it, all playstation consoles. (PS1,PS2 AND PS3_ came out 6 years after the other.. its been about 6 yrs since PSP, so who knows..

    the lack of a second analog stick is keeping Sony from making the money that they want. I love my fat PSP, but the fact that i only have one analog stick gets really annoying when i have to use the face buttons to rotate my guy, or push a button to make the analog stick have to switch in between movement and rotation.

    All they need is the 2nd stick, if they had it, they could finally make decent games (i.e. Call of Duty), and make the current games sooooooooo much better (L.B.P., Assasin's Creed, SOCOM, etc...)

    This seems like a day late and a dollar short and still does nothing for all those UMDs people have laying around.

    I think it would be painfully obvious at this time that this hidden market of potential new PSP owners is not there and they need to shift gears and target this thing towards those who currently have a PSP and are looking to upgrade. There seems to be an interest in it but you lose so much coming into one that the price tag isn't worth it at almost any price point.

    You get half the library, an increase price in games, and all your old games are useless. I'd rather just throw the money down for a big memory stick and just download PSP games onto that if I truly wanted to go that route.

    I wish they would just give up on the go and finish the PSP2 already. The tech is all available for dual thumbsticks, faster cpu, increased memory and a better onboard graphics card. The Go was a great idea design wise but I just think they should have just saved it for the PSP2 instead of trying to revive the PSP. Especially since a lot of people already have one of the previous models, this really didn't add much to those since it was download only. I like that I dont have to have my UMDs but I have too many games to go out and re-buy them, especially at a higher price in some cases. If they had a trade in option I might consider but in reality, I just want the PSP2.

    oh cmmon sony forget about psp go and start making 2 disc umd games and problem solved 2 gb games at least some Resident evil games Devil may cry and a more complete God of war games can be done instead of using flash memory for everything
