L.A. Noire due in fall for PS3, 360

[UPDATE] Rockstar confirms Team Bondi's stylistic detective thriller will finally arrive this autumn both on Microsoft's and Sony's consoles.

[UPDATE] Rockstar has since confirmed via its official Twitter page that L.A. Noire is indeed in development for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. However, the September launch window in Game Informer appeared to be overly specific, as the company would only say that "L.A. Noire is coming this fall." The original story is below.

Last September, Rockstar Games promised that new information on L.A. Noire would arrive "very soon." Over four months later, the latest issue of Game Informer has arrived with the long-in-development mystery game's film-noir-style visuals splashed across the cover.

Besides detailing the long development cycle behind L.A. Noire--which was first announced in 2005--the magazine lists it as arriving this September. It also reveals that the formerly PlayStation 3 exclusive is now also in development for the Xbox 360 but will remain a single-player-only experience. Though initially announced as a Sony-published project, the game was listed as coming to "next-generation consoles" when Rockstar took it over in 2006.

The debut effort from Australia-based Team Bondi, L.A. Noire takes place in 1940s Los Angeles, the setting for many detective films and novels, such as the brutal crime fiction of James Ellroy. Like the author's acclaimed novels The Black Dahlia and L.A. Confidential, it will have players entangled in a violent web of vice, corruption, and crime in the titular metropolis's underworld. Players will be tasked with solving a series of murders in what Rockstar describes as an "open-ended challenge," with atmosphere provided courtesy of a jazz soundtrack.

Rockstar cofounder and creative director Sam Houser is executive-producing L.A. Noire, with Team Bondi founder Brendan McNamara (writer and director of The Getaway) serving as director of development.

    So it will have like 5 discs on the xbox? Nice. Definitely getting the ps3 version. Having a game on a single Blu-ray is much cooler. But I do have both consoles

    @ fps dominator, well, whatever....I have both consoles and they both have their cons and pros. However you mentioned in your comment "what can xbox do that ps3 cant?nothing" Well, you're wrong there, coz with xbox 360 you can play all of your hard drive stored music while gaming at any time, with every 360 game!.....you cant do that at all with ps3! I'm not dissin either console coz in my view they both OWN! Vote up whoever agrees?!

    I've been waiting for this kind of game forever! i love all the grand theft auto games and im happy that a grand theft auto style game's protaganist is finally a good guy instead of a bad guy. now i wont have a guilty conscious for playing this game like i do when i play grand theft auto

    wtf??? are you serious, no multiplayer...... whats the point of buying an open world game if you can't play with real people........ahhhh rockstar I thought you were better than that..

    WHERE THE HELL IS THE PC VERSION FROM THESE PEOPLE!!!!!

    First "Red Dead Redemption" not coming to PC, and now THIS!!!! Such BS man. We all know how much better games look on PC. Make it dammit. I'm only ranting because how amazing these games look and it's a shame we can't really exploit the games potental on PC. Baaaah, sucks!

    COD is better on xbox? identical is the best word to describe them.
    as for servers you should know their hosted by players since you own a sponsored gaming clan. so PSN v XBL is out of the question.
    plus theres games that are better on ps3 as well like red alert, unreal tournament, dragon age, burnout paradise.

    put it this way.....what can xbox do ps3 cant.......nothing.....what can ps3 do xbox cant.......a lot.

    plus people keep saying XBL is better but no-one gives a single example of it.
    you do realise how the halo graphics drop when you take it online?
    plus you do realise how intense killzone 2 looks online while doing 32 players?
    gears of war.....10 players lol.
    no way XBL is better.

    @ firehawk998: True, although Mafia 2 isn't being made by Rockstar. It is being made by 2K Games, but they're owned by Take Two Interactive, the same company that owns Rockstar.

    PS3 and 360 are both equal and should only be bought based on their price, availability, any of the few exclusives they have, and whether you want a Blu-Ray player.

    Old news.

    This game looks good though, glad I heard about it... Hopefully it won't just float around in dead space.

    I want Red Dead Redemption more then this, but this game might be interesting. I guess Rockstars special exclusive PS3 game is now coming to the XBox 360 as well. I have a feeling stuff like this will happen all year.

    I'm just glad to hear it isn't cancelled. This game looks good. I think it will be nice to play a GTA style game and be the cops instead of the robbers.

    RED DEAD REDEMPTION, MAFIA and now this game LA NOIRE. Thank you Rockstar for making 2010 the year for awesome 3rd person sandbox games.

    one more thing if i buy a game that is multiplatform and im already on GOLD live i would buy the 360 version thats why ppl buy 360 more than the ps3 versions of multiplatform games simply because better online. that doesnt make 360 better because ur comparing $$ to free. i accept its better but its not like 10/10 against 0/10! psn is probably 7 or 6.5/10 so i recon ps3 wins

    lol just now i was reading that xbox360 was not capable of playing uncharted 2! although it is said by a SCE developer but i dont think they bullsh*ted!

    Where is your proof of Street Fighter or Resident Evil 5 on PS3 outselling the XBox 360 versions?
    Everything I've found or read said the 360 versions outsold the PS3 versions.
    You named two games that were made on the PS3 dev kits and I know and you know "almost every" multiplatform game that comes out is developed on 360 dev kits.
    I do own a PS3, I own a 360 and a Wii. I traded MAG in 2 days after I bought it. I run a competitive, Sponsored gaming clan.
    Would you like me to go down a list of multiplatform games that sold far better on 360 then PS3? I mean I can always start with the COD games...... Might not want to open that can of worms junior.

    you seriously don't know that FFXIII was developed on PS3 long before it was PORTED to 360?
    also did you know that currently the preorders for the PS3 version of XIII more than DOUBLE the amount for 360? i'll bet anyone here a $100 that the PS3 version will outsell the 360 version. any takers??? didn't think so.
    and FYI, did you know that the PS3 versions of street fighter 4 and resident evil 5 OUTSOLD the 360 versions??? etc. etc.
    and great job rating MAG a 1 when you OBVIOUSLY don't own a PS3, that's really sad.

    You realize every multiplatform game is developed on the XBox 360 dev kits right?
    So PS3 gets watered down ports for the most part. Apparently developers find the PS3 to be hard and a pain to program for. Which system do you think this game will sell better for IF the game is good? Probably the same system that sells more for every Multiplatform game ie. Modern Warfare 2, GTA4, Dragon Age, Street Fighter, Resident Evil 5 etc... and etc...... XBox 360.

    Hopefully that ^ quote can put an end to the Sony fans saying *it was never an exclusive*, because IT WAS. I'm happy Rockstar realized that releasing it on the 360 as well will garner them an immense amount of sales IF the game is good. 360 games at this point seem to be outselling it's main competitor (PS3) when it comes down to multi-platform titles so it only makes sense to make it multiplat..PS3 and 360 gamers benefit in the end!

    Wow was going to comment about how get_bangd only ever makes comments about how PS3 needs to have ALL the games, and saw he was banned for violating the TOS.

    Though it's not in the TOS, I think anyone who contributes to a fanboy war should be banned. Yeah, seems fair to me.

    I might be one of the only people on the planet who didn't care for GTA IV (single player was decent, multi-player felt wonky to me)...

    But i'm looking forward to this. Need to see gameplay footage STAT.

    omg nice another rock-star game looks like a godfather type game with clothes that the people wear and old fashion cars and music lol. looks pretty good so far. wasn't this suppose to be a ps3 exclusive?

    What a year this is shaping up to be. I'm a huge fan of open-ended gameplay (sandbox games and the new approach taken with Heavy Rain). L.A. Noire looks and sounds brilliant so far, and it's R*, so I'll sleep well till September.

    Maybe I'm being a noob for asking this, but does the multiplatform decision mean that we won't get the full benefit of the PS3's cell processor? Sharing the love between PS3 and XBOX sounds good to me, but if single-platform games are done that way for technical reasons (e.g., Uncharted 2), would love-sharing not devalue the final game?

    Man Rockstar sure is in the porting mood these days. First Episodes from Liberty Cities gets ported to PS3 now this game becomes multiplatform.

    LOL, you think multiple discs is the only difference between the PS3 and 360 versions? EVERYONE who got to see both versions of the game side by side said PS3 clearly looked better(yes, during gameplay FYI). That's the general impression everyone had on the XIII bus in San Fransisco, but you probably won't believe it until the game comes out and the comparisons get made.
    And, like XIII, LA Noire was made on PS3 first so you can slap that "inferior" label on the 360 once more.
