UFC Undisputed 2010 enters Octagon May 25

THQ names current heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar as cover star for new MMA fighter due on 360, PS3 late spring; PSP edition later this year.

Mixed martial arts fans have been pining for a showdown between current UFC heavyweight title holder Brock Lesnar and EA MMA's first cover athlete Fedor Emelianenko, considered by many to be the top heavyweight fighter in the world. Unfortunately, the closest the two fighters are likely to come to facing off any time soon is on the respective covers of THQ's and EA's respective MMA fighters.

Today, THQ announced that Brock Lesnar would feature on the cover of UFC Undisputed 2010, the follow-up to last year's 3.5 million-unit selling mixed martial arts fighter. UFC Undisputed 2010 will be available for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on May 25, while a PSP edition follows sometime later this year.

A former college and WWE professional wrestler, Lesnar made his UFC debut in 2008, losing to MMA veteran Frank Mir. However, two fights later, Lesnar went on to take the UFC heavyweight championship belt by defeating MMA legend Randy Couture. (Couture has also signed on to appear in EA MMA.) Lesnar went on to defend his title against Mir in July 2009, and his current UFC record stands at 3-1. Though he has been sidelined with an illness since last year, Lesnar is expected to return in 2010.

As for UFC Undisputed 2010, the game will feature more than 100 league fighters, as well as commentary from ringside staples Joe Rogan and Mike Goldberg. THQ has also introduced a new sway and posture system to enhance a player's ability to defend and deliver coups-de-grace attacks, as well as incorporated new moves from the sambo, karate, and Greco-Roman wrestling disciplines.

They better add Clay Guida as a playable fighter.

I guess it was a given Lesnar would be on the cover... only practical marketing strategy THQ could have considering Fedor is on EA's MMA game's cover...

Either way can't wait for both these games, Undisputed 2010 for the updates to the already great foundations set by the last game and MMA to see what it has to bring to the MMA game table. Although with such a winning formula already set by THQ I don't see EA straying to far from that..

Why do you non-sports people even bother reading this article if you don't care? You sound like fools with your stupid little comments which shows how little you know of sports. Go back to your flute.

Had a blast with the first one, felt it was a great start for an MMA franchise. Rough edges abound, but now we'll see how they approach the problems from the first. I'll be getting this for sure, as well as EA MMA.

2009's ground game/submission system was terrible. I'll reluctantly be purchasing this. Looking more forward to EA's attempt.

I was actually considering buying UFC 2009 since the price was lower, but now they are releasing the same game every year, I have no intention of supporting it, like any sport game. Why can't there be any DLC that involves an updated roster?

It'll be Kimbo Slice on the cover next year

Lo and behold! It looks identical!!!

Seriously, I got 2009 at midnight. And for what it was worth, I loved the game. I played 200 maches online. Got my money's worth. But I do not like to be milked for cash. Especially from an organization that's known to be so money hungry.

And so it begins...1 a year ... good or not...why not just a DLC update for $15-20 instead of full retail.

    oh well...

What do they need to put another one out so soon for?

They'd better fix that sad submission system for this version.

    I'm so pumped for this.

Hopefully they tweak the submission system a bit. Getting a first round submission was nigh-impossible in the first game.

Also, less flash knockouts and fewer loading screens plz.

    @Mason-McGlasson

Really curious to hear your reasoning behind having Cain Velasquez on the cover. He's not bad...but....really? There are way better options

As far as Brock goes, no matter how you feel about him, he sells ppvs. The guy's by far the biggest draw the UFC has not named Kimbo Slice. The PPV buy-rates prove that. Any card with Brock on it sells massively.

Also, size is part of the dynamic of the HW division. That's unfortunately how it is.

I find it unbelievable that you nail Brock for LNP though. Seriously? He tkos Couture IN THE STANDUP, and that's LNP? He knocks out Mir, and it's LNP? He drops Herring and turns his face into hamburger and breaks his orbital bone in the stand-up, and it's LNP.

Come on, dude. Hating a fighter is one thing. Spewing nonsense is another. This is Lesnar we're talking about, not Arona or Lindland.

so gay that Brock Lesnar is on the front of this game... He is not a true mma fighter... He wins by out weighing the others by 40-60lbs and lays on them the whole fight... Frank Mir, GSP, Anderson Silva, Cain Velasquez, BJ Pen, etc should have been on the front...
