New Dragon Age DLC released on PC, recalled on 360

[UPDATE] Return to Ostagar add-on now available for $5 for Windows, but pulled from Microsoft's console due to bug; PS3 edition due "soon."

Last week, BioWare offered news both good and not-so-good to those not ready to put down the war banner in Dragon Age: Origins. On the positive side, BioWare announced Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening, a new, $40 campaign that sees players rebuilding the Grey Warden order following the events of the original game. However, the news came alongside BioWare's decision to postpone the imminent launch of the Return to Ostagar add-on.

[UPDATE] Whatever the problem holding up Return to Ostagar may have been, BioWare has apparently now rectified it--on the PC, at least. After releasing the game for Windows and the Xbox 360 for $5/MSP 400, BioWare quickly pulled the console version due to an unforseen bug.

"This morning a title update on the Xbox 360 for Dragon Age: Origins was made available in preparation for the release of Return to Ostagar," wrote BioWare staffer Chris Priestly on the official BioWare forums. "This title update introduced a previously undetected issue that causes specialization classes to not work correctly in Dragon Age: Origins. We are removing Return to Ostagar from Xbox Live until the issue is resolved and are recommending that you do not download the title update. If you have already performed the update, we apologize for this and are working hard to ensure a fix is available as soon as possible."

SPOILER WARNING - Also expected soon on the PlayStation 3, Return to Ostagar sees players adventuring back to one of the integral early battles in Dragon Age, where King Cailan and Grey Warden mentor Duncan and are massacred after being treacherously betrayed. Now a darkspawn hub, Ostagar contains the armaments of Ferelden's fallen ruler, which players can procure, as well as additional backstory.

    Return to Ostagar for 360 has been available for a while now, ive been playing it for a couple weeks. Its not in the marketplace, I downloaded from the DLC menu in the game. Havnt noticed any bugs.

    Yeah seriously, it's been how long since they recalled Return to Ostagar from the DLC for xbox 360? If they don't get their act together I'm not touching another Bioware game again.

    I'm waiting patiently for this one, though, if Bioware can't get this together soon (before March, essentially...), it would be REALLY nice if they'd do like they did with the Stone Prisoner DLC and simply include a code in the Awakenings expansion pack allowing users to download the delayed Return to Ostagar DLC for free. Ah... wishful thinking...

    @royalarts: First, if you're playing Mass Effect 2, you had to have pirated it. As well, I'm assuming, as the RTO DLC since it doesn't seem to be released (but I did see it on a pirate site when I googled). Also, people who don't want the DLC and want to cry about it, DON'T BUY IT. Seems forums just become complaint fests and you rarely hear from those who actually LOVE the game. Personally, I can't wait for the DLC and say bring more on. It's a great way to keep a great game going. And don't say the "retail box" version is lacking in any way because they make DLCs. This game is phenomenal.

    Anyone have any idea when the DLC is out for the PC? Gamespot's "announcement" is now a week old. Am I missing something?

    I have it for the PC and it does not show up in DLC area so it must be bugged.
    Personally I forgot about this game and have been obsessed with Mass Effect 2.

    According to one of the developers (can't remember if it was in an article or on the Bioware forums) you can go either start Awakenings as one of the characters you already have by importing it or you can start as an Orlesian Grey Warden. So if your character kicked the bucket, you'd be starting as an Orlesian.

    Clear your Xbox cache to remove the title update, unlock one specialization (doesn't matter which one), save and exit the game, restart the game, all of the specializations you had unlocked should be unlocked again. This has worked for the majority of people who've had the problem so it's worth a shot to fix yours as well. Some have had to restart their Xbox for the specializations to unlock, so if it doesn't work at first try that. It will remove all title updates you've downloaded though so you'll have to reinstall them for other games.

    RTO was released on PC? I can't seem to download it. It doesn't pop up when I log in on the game. Any ideas?

    Damn it. I downloaded the update, and now all my Specialization classes have been re-locked. You can unlock them again by purchasing the manuals or bu talking to party members, but they lock again as soon as you load a game or turn of the console. Hopefully they'll have a fix for this when Return To Ostagar REALLY comes out, because this really messes up the game for me. I rely heavily on the Spirit Healer, Arcane Arrior, and Templar specializtions, and it's gonna be annoying having to hunt down all these damned manuals every stinkin' playthrough.

    Awakening doesn't make the game open ended. It's set at some point in the future after the Archdemon has been slain. Once you go into the Awakening content, you can't go back with that character. The previews and interviews done about it say as much.

    ummm guitarsrock4eva....the awakening expansion pack is going to make DA:O open ended, because if you read the preview of it that Gamespot posted it mentions that the awakening expansion pack carries the game on after the arch demon dies. Which obviously means that it's going to make the game open ended.

    I don't mind waiting. I'm just gonna be pissed if it turns out we can carry on playing after beating the game IF we pay to buy the Awakening expansion, currently we can only play DLC and not do anything else. I really hope Bioware hasn't made it so we need to buy the expansion in order to carry on with our game.

    Is this content available in England? Because I've got the PC version and have downloaded all the other DLC without a problem, but RTO doesn't come up on my "available content" list when I search for it.

    Once it's ready to go, then they'll release it. Microsoft apparently put it on the Marketplace without Bioware giving the green light.

    Bioware has such trouble with DLC. I guess companies like Infinity Ward and Bungie have more experience at it. FPS deliver so much DLC. But damn, Bethesda did well with their DLC for Fallout 3 and Oblivion.

    So there was a bug that thay missed big deal. I dont mind wating a few more days for it to come out. Because i have other games that i need to finish befor anyway. Like Bioshock. Finished that "dark side" ending. Now workin on the "good side" ending. So this delay suits me just fine. I say beter late then never.

    If it has been released for the PC its a surprise to me, as I can't find it anywhere. I hope they don't have this much trouble with Mass Effect 2 once it comes out. Whoot, less then 12 days!

    Damn, BioWare...what's really goin on?? What I'm trying to figure out is so they didn't even have the PS3 version (somehow lookin at what's going on now w/ ppl data gettin effed up I ain't even mad now it wasn't available ) ready yet for whatever reason...what made them rush to throw a bugged up 360 one up there? I don't even own a 360 and I think that's a jacked up thing to do....did MS wanna be first on the dl block so badly that they forced BioWare's hand to release a, apparently still, buggy DLC?

    For shame BioWare screwing gamers hard-earned data....

    Question - why not pull the update too, so that people can still play online and use Party/Private Chat, character tracking, etc?

    Yeah it's still not out for PC. I would prefer the patch to fix the stablity of the game but, DLC is good too.

    So that's what happened to all my specializations! I got my party to level 14 and couldn't choose any of 'em...and I had unlocked them all. This needs to be fixed

    As a developer of games and software in general let me tell you that when a game is "feature complete" they have to usually lop off some features to make a date stick. That time is MONTHS and MONTHS before the launch of the game. Somethings get left on the chopping floor, other things get given to vendors as perks for preorders, and now others are used for DLC to bolster the feeling of "support" for the initial purchase. To say that they should put certain features into the game instead of DLC and complaining to the developers is barking at the wrong tree. Complain to the marketing and management teams that set dates in the ground instead of building the game to perfection and letting all the features come in to the final product. Also complain to the same jerks for why DLC's exist. They are the brain childs of that. Their job is to make as much money as possible in the shotest amount of time to development and cost. The biggest culprit of this is EA.

    It's not that people aren't allowed to voice their concern, but constant whining and moaning about DLC prices get's old. Do you think Developers spend their time creating new DLC for nothing? It's a job, that's how they get paid. They gave us the Stone Prisoner and the Blood Dragon Armor DLC for free if you had the codes, quite generous i might add. In the end, if you want to continue the game then yes it will cost you, but nobody's forcing you to.

    People need to stop complaining about DLC's as they are part of the world we live in now. Its like complaining that everyone is on cell phones. Its the way the gaming world runs and either you pay for it you want it or not. Nobody is going to think lesser of you for not buying unless your friends think your a dork for not having the same DLC's as you do.

    I was disappointed by the shortness of Soldier's Peak, wonder how much gameplay is in the new DLC.
