GameSpot partners with Raptr

Integration of free social-networking service's real-time gameplay data to begin early next year.

This week, GameSpot announced that it has entered into a partnership with social-networking service Raptr. Starting next year, GameSpot users who sign up for the free service will have the option to display their Raptr gameplay data on GameSpot, as well as keep tabs on what their friends are playing in real time.

Raptr information that will surface on GameSpot includes users' game libraries, as well as statistics, scores, and achievements related to individual games. Raptr integration will also let GameSpot users track their progress in games or get suggestions from a game-recommendation engine.

Raptr's service also lets gamers quickly share information through social-networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter, as well as chat through their preferred IM client. The site is compatible with various online gaming platforms for the PC in addition to Xbox Live, allowing it to track data for games ranging from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 to World of Warcraft.

    this looks really cool kinda like xfire used to be then what steam became mixed with social networking and game library list, I interested to see how it tracks game data but I know that the PC stats will be more in depth

    I don't know what the heck Raptr is but I'll check it out. Anything adding functionality to this site is good for all GameSpot users.

    I joined a couple of days ago, when I read of the partnership with Gamespot. But with the exception of WoW nothing seems to get updated. And the site can takes ages to load. Not a good first impression.

    @spazzx625
    Do you know if this will be seamlessly intergrated, like into our actual profiles within our actual sections displaying "contributions" and "games lists?" Thanks.

    @milosc - How is GS copying anything? They are integrating with Raptr...A service that is already established. So if anything, Raptr "copied" Giant Bomb.

    Sounds alright, might look into it. But just dont know that many people IRL that use Gamespot, let alone Raptr. The facebook integration and the Gamespot integration will make it better to use for me.

    Posted Dec 12, 2009 3:56 am GMT

    Blaah...Dude, this is straight up copying of Giant Bomb achievements tracking. Of course, it's not the same thing (GB is much better) but the idea comes straight from Giant Bomb! Low blow GS! This is 2nd or 3rd time you're copying giant bomb. What?! Are you gonna remove my points again? Ban my profile? Why, you're scared that people will see the truth?

    @DAOWAce (and others) -- Xfire only tracks PC games played. Raptr (and other sites and services, like GamerDNA) tracks from multiple sources, such as Xfire, Steam, Xbox Live, and PlayStation Network (assuming Sony again allows use of its trophy tracking). Raptr and its brethren also track achievements, such as World of Warcraft, Steam and XBL achievements. So there's a lot more to it than what you may first believe, and it combines your gameplay triumphs across multiple platforms.

    @Avenger1324

    It's actually a lot better.
    All your IM's into one client, tracking of all platforms. A complete social network for gamers, to be honest.

    Only thing lacking is PSN tracking. They were the first to have it when Sony released it, then Sony decided to not let people track on anything other than sony related, and pulled it again... meh! I hope it changes again for the PSN users' and Raptr's sake.

  • Avenger1324

    Posted Dec 11, 2009 11:59 am GMT

    Is this much different to Xfire?

  • Ca9ine

    Posted Dec 11, 2009 11:55 am GMT

    KillerWabbit23

    You only enter your PSN ID once, and Raptr will track it for you.
    That is when Sony gets their head outta their asses. They did for a while, then they shoved it back in.

    it says "trophies" does this work with ps3 games too?? i know on giantbomb they started tracking ps3 games on top of xbox and steam, but i have a few plat trophies for ps3 that just don't show up: so its not perfect.... i wonder if this one is better.

    well ive never heard of it but i just signed up and it seems cool. I mean xfire just tracks pc games but this tracks everything. You also get all of the IM services combined into one so you can talk to anybody no matter what their using.

    yup ive never heard if it

  • DAOWAce

    As others have said, Xfire would've been a better choice.

    No one I know uses or has even heard of Raptr. I've had an account there but I never plan on trying anything but Xfire. Me and my friends don't need another program added to our list of 'commonly used apps'. (Which would most likely conflict with Xfire anyway.)
