DSi bundled in metallic blue, white for holidays

Nintendo's popular handheld gains $170 limited-edition hardware package beginning Nov. 27; preloaded software valued at $20.

Nintendo has made a tradition of cashing in on the post-Thanksgiving holiday shopping rush by releasing bundles for the DS in limited-run colors coupled with popular software, such as New Super Mario Bros. or Nintendogs. And while Nintendo will again be stocking retailers with a holiday bundle featuring festive colors, the publisher will this year be playing to the strength of its multifunctional DSi by preloading a batch of free software.

Beginning November 27, gamers can pick up a bundle featuring the third iteration of Nintendo's best-selling handheld in either metallic blue or white for its standard retail price of $169.99. As an added bonus, the holiday bundles will also include a batch of non-transferable software valued at more than $20, were it purchased through Nintendo's DSi Shop.

The metallic blue bundle includes five DSiWare titles that feature Nintendo's iconic paunchy plumber, Mario. Software to be preloaded on the system includes Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again, Dr. Mario Express, WarioWare: Snapped!, Mario Calculator, and Mario Clock.

Nintendo's white bundle has more of an intelligentsia bent. Titles to be included in the soon-to-be-available bundle are Brain Age Express: Arts & Letters, Brain Age Express: Sudoku, Brain Age Express: Math, Clubhouse Games Express: Card Classics, and Photo Clock.

Though available only in limited quantities, metallic blue and white are the two latest additions to the DSi's expanding rainbow of colors. It was first available in the US in light blue and black, and then Nintendo released a white-and-pink version of the camera-equipped portable in September. In Japan, the system has also been released in red, green, and metallic blue color schemes.

    I'm getting the mario DSi deal.

    non-transferable software ; i.e. paying full price for some kind of "rental" that you don't own, is a deal killer for DSi (to me).

    How lazy Nintendo. I know how much people protested on Mother games and SSB for the virtual console. Why can't the DSi have portable games from the game boy micro and all those versions. Release them Nintendo. The Wii is for console and dsi should be for portables re makes.

    Does anyone know if this bundle will last throughout the holidays, or will Nintendo drop the bundle and sell the console only?

    why does Nintendo make 100 of colors for one device again? oh they think that's competition

    @Spacemoose - I pretty much share a very similar sentiment. At first I liked the idea of Nintendo being proactive, but the results have not justified an investment.. especially at that price. Too little was added and too much was taken away.. the subtraction of the GBA slot + worse battery life mixed in with 90% shovelware on their online service killed whatever interest I had. As it stands now Scribblenauts and Zelda:Spirit Tracks will probaby be the only thing I end up buying for my DS this year.. maybe in years past the DS has the superior hardware features/software releases, but this year simply saw the PSP have a FAR better release schedule and the iPod Touch have more interesting applications at a very similar pricepoint.

    @hatieshorrer

    I already have a crappy camera on my cell phone, as does pretty much everyone else at this point (and I don't even really use that one). Frankly if I was going to buy it as a general purpose media device then the PSP is the clear winner between the two.

    I own a DS and not a PSP though, and the reason is that it just has more good games, which was even more the case back when I bought it. On the other hand, Sony has the right idea with offering so much of the PSP catalog for download via their store, though why they waited for another PSP version to do it is kind of beyond me. Having all the games on-board truly makes it a "portable" gaming device. I seriously don't understand what the hell Nintendo is doing with DSi Ware. They made it just so they can put out stupid half-baked games and parts of games and ****Ing clocks? Clocks? LOL.

    I want to like the DSi. I really do, but they aren't really giving me any compelling reason to spend almost $200 to "upgrade" like...oh, I don't know, offering actual full-fledged retail games for paid download for example. Nintendo still does not get the whole "online" thing. They really don't.

    Im not sure about that. Camera. Audio record. Picture editor. Audio editor. Web browser. Downloadable video games. Note pad studio. Voice chat. Im sorry I almost forgot the bundles this article is based on.

    Why do they always release the colors I want when the current DS line is almost up? Now on to the DSi XL. But the color handeld I want will probably come to it's year line end as well. >_>

    I guess releasing new colors is easier than actually providing any good reasons for the DSi even existing.

    @glimpus

    That's what these new hardwares are about. They're improvements of the same hardware. DSi is an improvement of Ds lite, while adding a bonus of additional content.

    DS is still my favorite system this gen, but I won't buy a DSi. I might go for the DSi XL, but only if I see some DSiWare games I want.
    No reason to replace my DS phat. It still works fine. Don't fix what isn't broken.

    Good deal, BUT seriously Nintendo, and Sony for that matter, move on to the NEXT GEN of portable game systems instead of wasting your time on "upgraded versions" of your systems that are worse than the originals (especially PSP Go, lmao), DS and PSP are getting really old for me.
