Call of Duty: Zombies touching iPhone

Activision and Treyarch's touch-screen-enabled undead-themed shooter now shambling on Apple's handheld for $9.99.

Call of Duty: World at War has already proven that it has legs well beyond its initial launch. With more than 11 million units sold since the well-regarded World War II shooter launched in November 2008, Activision said in July that the game's first two map packs had combined to sell some 4 million units. That figure, of course, doesn't even include Map Pack 3, which hit the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3's online services in August.

With Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and its record-setting launch still a headline fixture, Activision today announced one more World at War extension, this time for Apple's iPhone and iPod Touch. The publisher said today that Call of Duty: World at War: Zombies can be downloaded through Apple's iTunes for $9.99.

As its title suggests, the touch-screen-enabled shooter continues the zombie theme established in the first three World at War map packs. Call of Duty: World at War: Zombies accommodates solo play as well as co-op for up to four via Wi-Fi connection as gamers are charged with fending off waves of the undead hordes.

    It's really fun! I just downloaded today. It's more or less the same as the console version, just a bit darker Yeah, control's take maybe just 10 minutes of playing to get used to, and there's 4 player wi-fi co-op! (or 2 player bluetooth)

    The ten dollar price point is a bit steep, but the quality of the game is actually quite good. The original map Nacht der Untoten is the only one included upon release, but there are map packs scheduled to follow shortly after. Damn fine mobile game IMO.

    lets all give a hand to ACMC85 for his great support of the app store and him being part of the reason we dont see full games all the time. Your lucky we are getting GTA but of course it will be "too expensive" for him Id say.

    iPhone/iPod Touch games fail to be relevant to people outside of the US. Did you know that in the Canadian iTunes store, apps may not be purchased with store bought cards like songs and movies can? I'm a 17-year old and don't have a credit card, what am I supposed to do?. It just seems that if Apple wants the iPhone/iPod Touch to be a viable gaming platform, they really need to get their act together with some of this stuff.

    @Flint247
    I actually totally agree with you. Nazi zombies was one of the reasons that I didn't buy World at War, I found that it took away from the atmosphere of the series in a really weird distracting sort of way. It was as if Treyarch knew that their game wasn't solid enough to hold up on its own, so they had to start throwing out cheap tricks in order to broaden the appeal.

    It was totally ridiculous in last year's game, and it will be even more ridiculous as a game on its own. Why should this even bear the Call of Duty brand when it doesn't actually let you play Call of Duty?

    Looks fun. I won't be picking it up, due to a lack of an iPhone, but it looks fun.

    It is optional, but I still don't care for it. I don't believe it was needed.

    That's just my opinion. People can now mark my comments down.
