Braid puzzles PS3 as Pinball Heroes tilts PSP

PlayStation Store Update: Time-manipulating platformer joins Star Trek movie tie-in for home system; gamers on the go get SCEA-themed pinball tables, Kenka Bancho.

Between a pair of belated Xbox 360 ports and the debut of a handful of pinball games, this week's PlayStation Store update is a blast from the past.

At the top of the list is Braid, GameSpot's Best Original Downloadable Console Game of 2008. Released on Xbox 360 last August (with a version for PCs and Macs earlier this year), Braid tells the story of Tim and his quest for an unnamed princess, an endeavor aided by his ability to manipulate time in a variety of ways. The PSN edition of the game sells for $14.99.

Similarly belated in its appearance is Star Trek: D.A.C., a ship-to-ship space combat game based in the universe of the most recent revamp of the seminal sci-fi series. D.A.C. originally debuted on the Xbox 360 in May, coinciding with the theatrical release of Star Trek. The PS3 edition of the game is arriving just in time for next week's launch of the film on DVD and Blu-ray and sells for $9.99 on the PlayStation Store.

Keeping the retro theme going, Sony added another title to its library of original PlayStation titles downloadable for both the PS3 and PSP. Command & Conquer: Red Alert is now available for $5.99 from the PlayStation Store. The first installment in the real-time strategy series' spin-off franchise, Red Alert includes dozens of missions set in an alternate universe where Adolf Hitler never existed and the USSR conquered Europe.

The PSP also received a few games of its own in this week's update. As revealed earlier in the week, Sony launched a series of four Pinball Heroes titles based on some of its first-party franchises. Each of the games includes a single table for $4.99, and the four tables offered are based on Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Pain, High Velocity Bowling, and Hot Shots Golf.

Wrapping up the new releases are Atlus' juvenile delinquent beat-'em-up Kenka Bancho: Badass Rumble for $39.99 and the $4.99 PSP Mini game Bubble Trubble from Creat Studios.     Even though I already bought this on my 360 if this was playable on my PSP I'd probably buy it again.

    i would like to get braid but that seems like quite a high price.. still im sure its worth it.

    Agree, the money are mine, so i will spend them only on Ps3 exclusives, that usually are also the best games out.

    Whoo hoo. I've been wanting Braid for ages, but don't want to have un-used MS points lingering around (not when i can just use a card) and I download alot more games on PS3 than I do the Xbox anyway.

    I'm waiting for Castle Crashers when it come to PSN. Maybe if Braid goes on sale for 9.99. I hear it's a great game.

    I will not play a multiplatform game, so i will not play Braid. I play and will play only the Ps3 exclusives on psn and retail store.

    i wonder if any one eyed fanboys will still refuse to play braid (because 'it sux') like they said of the 360 version a year ago, out of spite? or will they neck up, and give it a go now? everyone should play braid. its a truly amazing game

    Good. PS3 only gamers shouldn't be left out when it comes to playing Braid. A fantastic game and I'm glad it's not only on the 360 and Steam(I think it was on Steam.).

    I never knew that Red Alert was for Playstation. I thought it was just PC. I'll check some gameplay videos on youtube before I buy it, but it'd be great to get back to it! It's listed as PS3/PSP on the store. Hope it plays well.

    If you're a PS3 owner without the 360, do yourself a grand favor and purchase Braid as soon as you can. It's really rather amazing, and sticks with you long after you've finished exploring it. To get a game that good, for that cheap, from the comfort of your chair... genius.

    I tried that Star Trek game last night...it was surprisingly fun. My dad being a Trekkie, he'd probably fall in love with it. I'm not likely to buy it though, as most of the game seems to be focused on multiplayer. I would have liked a demo of Braid though; it's hard to judge a game based on hype and reviews alone and the price is a little high for a downloadable game that I'm told is really short. (For me, Bionic Commando Rearmed set the standard for a good value downloadable game at a cheap price--9.99). I played Trine last week and while I'd really love to get that, it too is a little pricey for me. Maybe it'll go on sale later.

    As a big pinball fan I downloaded the uncharted table and was very disappointed. The table is really dull and doesn't even play that well. I also don't like such weak flippers. You pretty much have to turn your psp to play because the normal horizontal view is a joke. You are either zoomed in so far you can't see anything or zoomed out so far you see the whole table top down and everything is tiny. Vertical view at least makes it playable, but I recommend not wasting your money. If you want pinball stick with the excellent Pinball Hall of Fame: Williams Collection. Even the table on the DSi store where you got to play with the table split on two screens is 1000x better than this.

    I guess that means it must be the original PS1 version of RA. It's been a very long time since I've played that one. Did manage to get RA working on my current rig but the video is pretty shot. Can't get it to look like it should and the videos look terrible!

    @raahsnavj Nope. CnC and RA on PS are far inferior than PC counter-part. if your PC can still run CnC and RA (I doubt yours will, since the games don't support 800x600 resolution and graphics card these days can't support 640x480 res. And similary to PSOne version, they don't support mouse and keyboard.

    Red Alert on the PS3... did they add in keyboard and mouse support then? I wonder how it plays actually... PS3 owners got a lot of great stuff this week.
