Borderlands DLC drops Nov. 24 on PS3, 360

The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned arrives Thanksgiving week, will be "first in a series" of updates to Gearbox and 2K's "role-playing shooter"; PC date TBA.

Just over two weeks after its existence was revealed, the first downloadable expansion for Borderlands has been dated. This morning, 2K Games and Gearbox Software announced that The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned will launch November 24 on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 for $9.99 or 800 Microsoft points. The companies did not date the expansion for the PC version of the game, which shipped one week after its console counterparts. "We will have information on the PC version at a later time," said a 2K rep.

According to Gearbox, The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned will feature undead opponents aplenty, accidentally created by the titular doctor (unrelated to Dr. Zed, one of the first characters people meet in the game). Players will join up with the semi-mad scientist to track down his creations, which are running amok in a new region the DLC adds to the game, Jakobs Cove. The new area will also be infested with were-skags, which are fearsome cousins of the aggressive scaled creatures that infest the planet Pandora, the game's setting.

As previously announced, The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned will be a "full-fledged expansion" and will be the first in a series of DLC add-ons to Borderlands, according to Gearbox. The M-for-Mature-rated game was a hit with critics, despite some technical bugs, which the developer has begun patching.

    This game was fun while it lasted, I had fun the first time I finished the story, but after I had to do the second part just to reach max level... it gets too redundant, not to mention in the second part I get blown to bits in half a second regardless of what my spec is. This is only for ONE of the classes, I can't imagine repeating this cycle 3 more times for the other ones...

    I guess another thing to note after looking through more of the comments is that people seem to have a problem with DLC coming out close to the time because they say it's suppose to "breath new life into the game" Then it's the perfect time for that stuff to come out! I don't have the time anymore to finish a game in a week, but I know people who seem to be able to live without sleep and can blow through new games in a weekend to a week. Another thing video gamers are is compulsive, if you like a game you'll try to get in as much of it as you can between your other responsibilities if you haven't shirked them or have them.

    Keep it in their minds a few weeks after release and finishing the game to keep them coming back before it get's buried under the next installment of games and previews.

    I think the idea of DLC is great. But like some people have commented there is always going to be good and bad DLC content. And the reason for DLC content in some games coming out at launch or close to (Borderlands and Dragon Age) is that there comes a point in development when you have to say ok, we'll have to do this later. Video gamers are some of the most impatient people in the world, yet we must be the most forgiving as well because 95% of the games put out still have bugs and glitches long after there release.
    So do you want to wait for an extra 6 months for a game that has everything in it, but may not be relevant to the core experience of the game or get the game and customize it to your liking? I see DLC as an ability to customize your gaming experience. If it's an extra chapter, a new story or area I'm usually in. If it's a new costume, a new weapon or multiplayer map (not an console FPS person, Borderlands the exception) then I'll save my money. I think it's about as simple as that.

    Borderlands is all kinds of awesome (glitches aside). I'll definitely be picking this up so me and the crew can run through it.

    Games are entertaining. The worst part about them is they eventually end. So keep the DLC coming because, let's be honest, it's not only hugely entertaining but much cheaper than buying a new game every few weeks.

    Assuming the original game was acceptable length then DLC is a great addition.

    This really isn't any different than expansions for games on pc. One example is the Warhammer 40k RTS, slowly releasing multiple expansions with new races. In my mind the game is complete when I have all the races. How much more programming is it to include those races from the get go? Or are they milking you for the price of a whole new game? I just feel it comes down to supporting what the company is doing or not. But I do try to see when a company is pulling the wool over my eyes, and most gamers can identify that and they will not support it leaving a product in the dust.

    Good comment, the ultimate point here is that if you really enjoy a particular game and the developer provides 'worthwhile' DLC then i say great, what i am totally against as are many others is when a Dev' tries milking me for every penny, one prime example is CAPCOM with their comical 'Multiplayer' DLC, which lets face it, is absoloutely pathetic and is one reason why i would not buy it, any developer that tries such antics should be ashamed.

    Supply and demand. Obviously there is a demand for them to be supplying it. I bought the Dragon Age DLC for $8 because I think the game is great and I want to support the company. I will buy Borderland s DLC once again because I think the game is great and I want to support the company. Now there is plenty of garbage DLC and I stay away from it. The bottom line here is don't buy it if you don't think it is a value. I only buy the DLC for games that really blow my mind. Some is just junk. A video game is still the best bang for your buck and another $10 just extends my game a bit longer. New content also makes me keep my games around longer.

    They had better make a sequel!.......... 200 years!? Ninja Claptrap!? wtf : ) Brilliant game, and i will be getting this DLC, just hope it is a fully blown expansion and not a simple half assed addon.

    Yes, very true. I love Beatles Rock Band, but I got that same feeling when I heard they were releasing three albums as DLC after the initial release. Same for the Fable 2 stuff as well.

    Oh well, like we've both said before: if people will buy it, companies will sell it.

    If you're going to release something this big this close to launch, at least make it only $5. Most of the people buying it didn't get their hands on used copies, they were the people that let you know the past two+ years of work you did yielded a good product. After my rental is over, I'm just going to wait until I find it for $20, then grab the DLC, so when I spend $60, I get the complete game.

    Should've been released on Hallow's eve...i take that back, it should've been included in the game as an apology for the lacking endind. Everybody who beat the game knows what im talking about.

    Shucks, am I so predictable?

    The Fallout DLC is a pretty grand idea where it works, but there are differences between a DLC item that was created to entertain players once the game was gold and ready for shelves, and another thing entirely to cut parts of a completed game so that it may be sold later for booku bucks at the player's expense.

    This, Fable 2, and Beatles RB all fall into the unfortunate latter, and my wallet doth protest!

    Considering how chunky Borderlands is with its content, i'm more than willing to let by the DLC was already finished around its release.
    More so i'm definatley looking forward to it since Borderlands is one of my favourite games this year, surprised me plenty with how addictive it is.

    the reason the DLC is coming so soon after release, is because most of the developers were done with the game before it shipped. So with nothing to do, they began making DLC. The content in the DLC isn't anything "left out" or "incomplete" in the the game. It is entirely new content. It is not stuff that was left on the disk that unlocks once you pay for it.

    I dont have a problem with DLC, my complaint is when its released the same day, or even same month as the game, then it starts to feel like content was left out of the original game on purpose so that they could get more money right away from gamers.

    DLCs are supposed to breathe new life into a game, keep it going, not just take advantage of gamers making them shell out more money to feel like they are playing a complete game. imo

    What's with all of the complaining about paying for DLC?? Have the complainers actually played Borderlands? It's MASSIVE!!! Seriously huge gameworld already, so I think it's only fair that they charge for DLC, which probably takes a lot of time and work to put together.

    That's my 2 pence anyways.

    Yeah that's how I feel on DLC also alkaline. Instead of whining about the shame that something like it exists, I just attempt to factor in the DLC cost either into the price of the game used (Which means if I wanted all the content for Disgaea 3 for the full price, I would need to find it for $10 >_

    Haha, I knew I could count on you to bring up the avatar marketplace! We've had this discussion before, you know where I stand on DLC as well.

    Oh well, I plan on getting the DLC, once I actually get the game, that is. To each his own, right?

    But I do agree that it is kind of a cash grab. But if it's worth it, I'll pick it up. I got all the Fallout DLC, and I don't regret that.

    Nice. DLC released this closely to the release of the original game. They could at least pretend that it wasnt content that was held from retail so they could sell you something else later...

    Why leave the PC version behind so much? First, the later release date, then the copy-pasted 360 review from Gamespot and now this? I hope it's free at least.

    hmm, yes. DLC is for those of us who enjoy the basis of a game we've quite willingly paid for and enjoy playing. Playing so much in fact, that we're running out of new things to discover within that game we're enjoying playing. And rather than having to put that disc back in it's case, bidding the character you've developed so lovingly a sad farewell, spending another £40 / $60 on another game that reminds you of the great platform you've just played through or waiting another year or two for the developers who've entertained you thus far to release a sequel, simply spending £5 / $10'ish on a conveniently delivered, expansion to the story you're already enjoying, extending it's shelf life and providing a new shine on a platform your already fond of and familiar with. No-one says you have to buy it. And... if your well informed prior to purchase, and follow a hunch to successfully purchasing a GREAT expansion for that game (not AWFUL like those of the last Fable game), you may very well simply enjoy yourself and be pleased if you do buy it.

    yes. I love borderlands. I'll look forward to buying this expansion and those thereafter
