The official story: Microsoft directed all inquiries to Electronic Arts, which had not commented as of press time.

What we heard: Late yesterday, forums began to rumble with a rumor that irked many PC gamers. The posts--and subsequent rumors on game-news sites--claimed that the latest Gaming Steve podcast had official confirmation that Command & Conquer 3, the latest in the storied real-time strategy series, was coming to the Xbox 360.

If C&C 3 did come to the 360, it would be the franchise's first console game since 1999, when the original game was ported to the N64. That title was preceded by a quintet of other ports, including: Command & Conquer: Red Alert: Retaliation (PlayStation, 1998 ), Command & Conquer: Red Alert (PlayStation, 1997), Command & Conquer (PlayStation, 1997), and Command & Conquer (Saturn, 1996).

While those titles received mixed reviews, a 360 C&C 3 would have much more potential. The PC version of C&C 3 is being developed by EA's Los Angeles studio, which is currently working on the 360 version of its well-received PC RTS The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-earth II. Many game journalists have praised the 360 BFMEII as a remarkably good port, including Glicker. Commenting about the game's quality, he said it will likely inspire other RTSes to come to the console. "Hopefully other people will do a real-time strategy game on the 360," said Glicker, who singled out THQ's Supreme Commander as a title ripe for porting.

Glicker then went on to predict that C&C 3 will also find its way to Microsoft's next-gen console. "I know for a fact that they are doing this because these are the same guys, the same team who's doing Command & Conquer 3, and they're definitely gonna release it for the 360--you heard it here," he proclaimed. "They're really using Battle for Middle-earth II as a springboard, a test to see how it's gonna work for Command & Conquer 3. So they're almost trying to use this as a beta, a very good beta. So when they kind of streamline this, when they design Command & Conquer 3, they'll be able to get a lot more information and they'll be able to come out with a really strong Command & Conquer 3 both for the PC and the 360."

Following those comments, Glicker went on to interview Louis Castle (pictured), EALA's Vice President of Creative Development and cofounder of Westwood Studios, creator of the C&C series. His presence right after Glicker's comments regarding the 360 C&C 3 led many to believe Castle himself had confirmed the game's existence.

But while he talked at length about BfMEII and how EALA had prototypes of unnamed 360 RTSes, Castle steadfastly refused to answer any questions regarding C&C 3. First, he rebuffed a general question about upcoming EALA projects by saying, "Obviously, I can't talk about games that aren't announced yet." Then, he shot down a specific question about the already-announced PC C&C 3 with a flat "I can't talk about it."

But Castle's clamming up doesn't necessarily mean that C&C 3 isn't coming to the 360. Glicker's reputation is solid and his network of contacts vast, so it's entirely possible that he was told of the game off the record. Eventually, he will likely get it on the record as well. "We're going to have more information on C&C later in the year--I'll keep you in the loop," he told listeners.

Bogus or not bogus?: Bogus that it's been confirmed. However, time--and the retail performance of BFMEII--will tell if C&C 3 is 360-bound.

it should stay on the pc because you should be able to control the game ,there should be a mouse to control your units if you 're willing to play it on the 360

Most rts4pc fanboys have a grudge against systems having rts games. I'm excited about that halo wars thing because near end of trailer you see some in amazing game models of the banshees. They are making it different from most rts'es which is good because consoles can't make good rts games their i said it. The lotr rts game was ok but i thought managing through my squads of units was ok and not amazing. For Command and conquer 3 it would definitely be a lot harder to go through groups of units unless they deter from really old formula of building one unit at a time and making it similar rts's like warhammer 40k which builds squads instead of individual units which makes managing the army easier. Don't get me wrong, I do love my 360 and I do love the C&C franchise it's just that they don't seem like they are good together. C&C is a franchise that just can't live on consoles.

I think if they they might put it on the consoles, at least put it on more than one, like the PS3, cause Tiberian Dawn was put on to the PSone! Because it wouldn't be fair to thoughs who don't like 360.

Red alert 3 should not come out for the 360

I personally think it should come out for computer, and PS3, i have all games of c&c (well my brother has em for computer since my comp is slow) but i have al the games for PSX. So personally i think PS3 would be alot better to keep the collection going

This post is a bit late but i dont care.
PC is definatly best to play RTS's
It could work on the Wii cus you could use the wii-mote as the mouse
It would make a good port for the PS3 but only if you have the keyboard and mouse for it
And for the 360 well it will do ok, but only if they make a keyboard and mouse add-on

It short keyboards and mouses are a MUST to playRTS's. Pad's don't work

why dont they just use the same controls as middle earth two is on 360. that would be pretty awesome if they put C&C 3 for 360 because i dont know if my computer can handle all these new rts games that are coming out so it would be pretty nice if they did!

Is there any idea or rumor that C&C 3 will go on wii and PS3. I think the PS3 can support this grpahic. I think the game can be on blu-ray disc.

It was confirmed NOT to exist at e3! It's a stupid idea anyway, bfme2 on xbox is pointless, how can you enjoy the game knowing that if somehow you were to play anybody on pc, you would surely lose due to a sluggish method of control. And yes, i've seen footage and video reviews of bfme2 on xbox

maybe this is going to be one of the first cross platform games so if you are playing it on-line on a 360 ur opponent might be playing it on a PC. could make for some intresting battles!

EA will buy out the entire gaming industry then port any PC game they can get there greedy little hands on to consoles, then dumb down the gameplay, lack innovation, and make every game rated T for Teen. Theres alot to look forward to.

    Posted Jun 23, 2006 3:46 pm PT

Oh great, PC gamers getting screwed again by dumbed down gameplay... You know what EA? You can keep this game, hell, you can just release it exclusively on the 360 - You couldn't make a decent RTS for the pc anyways.

RTS + Consoles = Bad idea.

  • Deathwing13

    Posted Jun 21, 2006 8:57 pm PT

Putting it on a console is just a bad idea. RTS's don't mix with consoles, it's almost a given. The controls and platforms vary too much for it to be a multi-platform game. It's meant to be played via the PC, not a console.

    Bad idea.

I've got no problem with a port to the 360. I'll stick with my keyboard and mouse, though. I played the N64 version of the original "Command & Conquer" and found it almost impossible to control (same goes for FPS games). I've played other RTS games on consoles ("Dune" for the SEGA Genesis and "Warzone 2100" for the PSX) and had the same problem. It worked fine but an analog or D-Pad is no substitute for a mouse.

If people can play and enjoy the game on their 360, that's cool. I just don't want to see it as a console-only title.

GUYS GUYS GUYS..The reason why us P.C. people hate Console RTS, is that Game designers seldom and i mean seldom produce an awesome game that turns heads because they always!... Forget to finish properly. And no offense but these days a bad/boring game gets a good rating!! We go out and buy them... and well.......its bad... "but there was so much hipe?" we ask.

For example Tiberium Sun, Great movies shocking game play. Red Alert 2 didn't make the same mistake!! General: Great gameplay, Movies? Storyline?

The last game ported on to both that I remeber, (ghost recon 3).....well lets just say.....they could have learnt a lot from THQ (FSW), Lucusarts (ST: RC)!!!! They could have learnt a lot.....instead of fumbling the ball.

It would be nice, but then ageain it will be to hard to controll on the 360. So lets just keep it on the PC. And who ever said (looks like MS is trying to get more games to make there system look better) needs to STFU! Damn just because it might go to 360 dont mean crap. There just trying to impress the fans u tard.

The biggest thing I seem to hear is that its better on PC since when??? N64 that was so long ago and to boot we had no XBL or other type of internet service to play people who couldn't come over. 2nd I can see PC fans being upset cause that's just another dent in the PC world of gaming more people will decline to play on pc and opt to go to the XBOX. I for one think its cool I mean look at the controls for LOTOR BMFE II from the gamespot demos I've seen its looks great!

C&C 3 on 360 would be sweet!!! I don't think I could play sims on my console though still haven't liked that yet.

If we are lucky they will go with the whole "Generals" thing again... or they could do something that would be fun and not be a shameless cash-in to terrorism.

If we are talking good old Red Alert style, then we are talking.

to devilwillcry, oh come on you are not even knowing what you are talking about, first of all the last command and conquer was out before xbox even came out, thats why it wasnt out on the xbox. and second of all 360 does support usb keyboards, i am not too sure on a usb mouse though, but why not. So devil do some research before you post man.

Anyone who said, "it should only be on PC" is an idiot. Why? What would it hurt to have it on PC and 360? I'm still going to get it for PC instead of 360 anyway. If you could plug a mouse in 360 that would be a different story.

Sheesh its funny how people have this idea that RTS games belong on the PC I mean thank you verry much but I would like to play RTS games on my 360. As I am sure other people would who dont have a decent PC rig and cant afford to shell out a fortune to keep one running as they have other priorities in life.

Hopefully BFMEII does do well in the market as that will set the pressident. The fact that no one is actualy deneying that C&C exists bodes well.

As for the game being developed by EA and not Westwood therfore it not being a C&C game... well if you are going to take that aproach then we can say there will never be another Zelda or another Mario oh and Quake 4 wasnt a Quake game... Game franchise change studio's constantly you think the same people who make one game within a company are still there 10 years later still as the same team making the same game? Yes the C&C franchise has been bought by EA but that is no reason to dismiss its poterntial. I'm not some kind of EA fan but I do think they have been doing better lately in choosing what to publish and what not to.

Anyway the team developing the game itself sofar seem talented and able to create a good game so cut them some slack untuil you have an idea of what the game feels like... and if you are going to freak out if they change anything then go and play the old games some more and dont bother buying anything new as thats life things change otherwise the rest of the world that CAN cope with change would get bored.
