What we heard: With game press outlets in virtually every language but Esperanto, often things get lost in translation. Case in point: this week's rumor that Ninja Gaiden Sigma, the revamped and PS3-bound version of Ninja Gaiden Black, is coming to the Xbox 360.

The rumor got the most exposure on the widely ready NeoGAF forums, which sourced an article on the Japanese-language site GDEX--in which the only words in English were "PS3," "Ninja Gaiden," and "Xbox 360," followed by a "?". (NOTE: The title of the thread has since been changed.)

Obviously, that means that the PS3 version of Nina Gaiden Sigma is coming to the Xbox 360, right? In short, no. The GDEX story links in turn to an article on the German site Xboxfront, which bears the title "'Ninja Gaiden Sigma' nicht für Xbox 360." Auf Deutsch, that means "'Ninja Gaiden Sigma [is] not for the Xbox 360."

"Now it's official," reads the article. "The action title Ninja Gaiden Sigma, which was first announced at this year's Tokyo Game Show by Tecom, is staying PS3-exclusive...reports [Japanese magazine] Famitsu Xbox 360." The Xboxfront/Famitsu article goes on to say that Team Ninja head Tomonobu Itagaki will return his focus of development to the Xbox 360 in the future.

The official story: Tecmo reps did not respond to requests for comment. However, Itagaki himself professed his Xbox 360 loyalty in an interview on GameTrailers.com, in which he talked about how he has little to do with Sigma, which is being produced by his Team Ninja associate Yousuke Hayashi.

"People who are supporters of Xbox should view this as a good thing," he said. "What I've done is pass the baton over to someone else. I can focus even more of my attention on making new games for the Xbox 360. ... My home base is the Xbox 360, and I'm going to continue to make games [for it] at the same pace, if not faster."

As for which games, Itagaki would only say that after he finishes Dead or Alive Xtreme 2, "my next game is going to be what everyone's expecting."

Bogus or not bogus?: One sarcastic NeoGAF poster put it best: "A Japanese site reporting about a German site reporting about an article in a Japanese magazine? Makes sense." Bogus.

It's more than a PS3 port of Ninja Gaiden Black. They didn't just add a new weapon or two and a little special mode. They added new stages, 3 new bosses and a mode where you can play as rachel [which I have tried out in a demo]. Not to mention the graphics in this game are going to eviscerate those of the ones on Xbox. In short, it's not "recycled", it's more like an extreme makeover for the game. It's going to blow away the ones on Xbox.

I saw the sigma trailer, and i dont expect too much from it, same bosses, same levels, same enemies, same moves, same story! With some little changes (the 2 katanas are awsome) and some graphics better ups, i think they want to give the ps3 players the taste of ninja gaiden, but, taking that taste from the mouth of 360 owners...BETRAYAL!!!!!!!!!

i hope somehow it does hit the 360. ive alwayws loved gaiden.

so even if the graphics arent next gen the extras like playing as rachel and new weapons and enemies are always a plus for me.

im hoping with one of these gaidens theyll make a nice vs mode or co op mode.

*Be still my heart* I know this could be BS but I cross my fingers that NGS will drop on the gaming god system 360.

And if it drops on the 360 the first one I'm going to overkill with the metal core arrows is Rachel.

i love this game so much, but nothing makes me angrier than lack of brand loyalty to fans, i love ninja giaden, it's my favorite platformer/action game of last gen. and the fact that a self proposed xbox exclusive title would rerelease a remade game for the other system is heinis, i don't expect DMC to come to the 360, as much as i love it i also would find it distasteful to shuck a brand like that around, same with mario or metriod. these games wouldn't feel right on anything but their respective consoles. if they feel the need to explore another platform i suggest the pc, it's been a great neutral platform for the last decade with many ps2, "exclusives" hitting it, i just got DMC 3 special edition for 20 bucks, and i did get halo pc for 20. this is a good system that doesn't affend brand loyalists such as myself.

Meh, I wouldn't care to be honest, I'm not interested in Ninja gaiden, or Tecmo for that matter, I couldn't care less if they made the rest of thier games on PS3 (unlikely), I didn't like thier games before, lol, and I won't suddenly like thier games now.

"At any rate, I don't care if Sigma is NG 1.5, 1.2 and even 6.3, it looks like an awesome game, no matter the platform. Although, I'm still more excited for another PS3 (exclusive) action title a lot more.. and that's DMC4.

Though, I've always felt sorry for the Xbox (and 360) owners who never got DMC, at all.. (not to mention just a taste of 1 MGS title). =/"
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Don't feel too sorry for them, Ninja Gaiden was the best action game of its generation. It was better than God of War and any of the DMC games.
Trust me on this one, I have those games. And they are very good games, especially God of War. But you will soon find out why "Xbots" love their Ninja Gaiden games....

    "LOL!

mike_mgoblue, spreading your XBOX propaganda again? Here's what will happen. NG Simga will SELL MORE copies on the PS3 than sold for the 360. Ouch!"
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That's a bit optimistic, I mean I do wish that NG:S sells well but it's going up against history. Late ports never sell as well as their originals. The GTA games for the Xbox are a perfect example. And so is Metal Gear Solid 2 on the Xbox....

Between the first edition of NG and of course NGB do we xbox owners really need to pay for yet another revamped edition of NG? Id rather just play the original copy I have now and what for NG2 which like itaki said is what everybody is guessing on.

What are you talking about? Its the Xbox1 remix game remixed for the Japanese PS3.

It wouldn't make sense for this game to come on the 360, but if it does I will get it.

    Sony: *walks into tech diner*
Technology: How's going bud. What'll it be for you this generation, the usual?
Sony: How rich! Of course, here's a wad of cash. I want the best damn graphics available and I don't want to have to think or innovate with this new console. I know we're probably making the same mistake twice in a row with the PSP and PS3, but if we're lucky consumers won't even notice.
Tech: Ha! Excellent choice, sir. But traditionally, hasn't a large portion of your user base consisted of people that only play Madden? Sir, I sincerely doubt they'll be able to afford this new console! Please reconsider!
Sony: Don't worry your pretty little head, tech. I think we'll be safe employing our tried and true formula of regurgitating our big hitters with updated graphics and the same old gameplay. Our 11th anniversary of doing nothing different is coming up, why change now?
    *Mysterious figure walks in*
Fate: Nice to meet you, Sony.

Team Ninja dude says his home base is the 360. Dude better be making the next Ninja Gaiden for the ps3, too. What's so great about this 360, anyways? I don't get it. I've been waiting this past year--well, since the 360 came out--to buy a ps3, since I thought it would be that much better. But if it's not gonna be, then have I wasted a whole year without the 360 just because of my thinking that the ps3 would be that much better? In any case, I'm still sticking to my guns about the ps3--it's gonna be 100x better--no, 1000x better. Just kidding...

Maybe true, maybe not. It isn't really a new game so it isn't like it had high dev costs to bring over to the PS3, if it were new I would say definately since PS3 sales will sag after the initial early adopter and fangirl rush. So if they really want to recoup dev costs, PS3 isn't going o be the place to be till like the price comes waaaay down.

Stop with the remakes of the same game with prettier graphics please. Just buy at 360 for original good graphics games, and buy a Wii for new ways to play games. Buy a PS3 to sell to idiots who want better graphics on the same game over and over.

why do the xbox 360 fans have to hate just because the PS3 is getting their own exclusive version of Ninja Gaiden. Say what you want but this "graphical upgrade" is looking great and with the already stellar albeit similar gameplay intact I dare anyone of you to say that you are not going to want this game with a straight face.

This isn't meant to start a flame war or anything but I think you guys are just jealous. IF this was on 360 I bet you guys would all be screaming for glee saying YES I NEW NINJA GAIDEN! The point is, if you guys know tecmo well, they are not fanboy's of any system. Glorify the 360? I think not. They have said that they are not devoted to making games on one system. THIS is no exception to 360 or ps3. Personally, I don't care which system this comes out on, cus I know that BOTH the ps3 and 360 will be awesome. I just hope this project doesn't make tecmo forget about NG2.

Um in accordance to the comment of whether this will sell better on PS3 than Xbox i think it will just because Playstation has always been the king of these kind of games. DMC, God of War, first to get Dynasty Warriors and Prince of Persia, Shinobi, so people that buy PS3 will expecting more of those games like me. And although i have an Xbox i don't play it much and never got around to buy Ninja Gaiden, and i am glad i did because it will be so much sweeter on PS3. They may just be doing this because they want to build a fan base for Playstation owners so when they release the sequel more Playstation owners will buy it.

Xbox gamers did get MGS substance so they got their hands on MGS2.

ill just wait for Itagaki's REAL next-gen game, not the recycled garbage for the PS3.
