What we heard: This week, the few hardcore PC gamers who already bought, played, and finished Dark Crusade were treated to a tantalizing teaser. When players complete their conquest of the planet Kronus in campaign mode and the credits roll, the game cuts back to an outer-space shot of the blue planet where all the action took place. Then the camera slowly pans backward to reveal another dusty-looking planet that appears to be wracked by warfare, with explosions popping up all across the surface. The slow pan continues further along to show yet another, reddish planet, where fighting also seems to be taking place. The screen goes dark and in big block letters, "2007" appears.

The postcredits sequence implies that, at the very least, an expansion to Dawn of War will be released next year, perhaps combining the series' trademark real-time strategy battles with some sort of space-exploration element. This would certainly make sense in the context of the Warhammer 40,000 universe, in which multiple warring factions are always vying for intergalactic supremacy. Some have taken that the shot shows two planets as a sign that THQ and Warhammer developer Relic are readying not just one, but a pair of expansions--or possibly even sequels--to Dawn of War.

The official story: "That's awesome that you guys finished the game! Unfortunately, we aren't currently announcing anything, as Dark Crusade just shipped...Feel free to speculate!"--THQ rep.

Bogus or not bogus?: Not bogus that THQ is readying at least one Dawn of War product. And, given that the original Dawn of War and the Winter Assault expansion have sold more than 260,000 units to date combined (according to the NPD Group), a second expansion also seems likely.

The only thing the people who made Warhammer 40k needs to fix is to add a hell of a lot more population to the game more soldiers in the 40k world is better and add the rest of the races after that the game would be perfect

Warhammer 40k is the best thing to hit PC in a long time. I look forward to new races but mostly NEW UNITS for existing races. For one thing the chaos space marines definitely need more vehicles to choose from. Space battles sound awesome but eldar are gonna smoke all in that realm of combat, and titans may be too massive even on this level of graphics to display fully given thier like 30 story height.

I thonk that a sequel would be reat. They should put airraft and space battles in the sequel. The new race should be Tyranids. Hopefully they'll put in Daemon/ Witch Hunters and Dark Eldar too. I think that they could continue the original soryline of Warhammer 40,000 the original. Hopefully it will continue and have Gabriel Angelos and Inquisitor Mordecai Toth destroy Khorne. I think that the Emperor should be able to be in battles somehow as an insanely powerful god that puts Bloodthirsters, Avatars amd Squiggoths to shame. The Horus Heresy would also be a good setting.

I want to see a portable version on the DS or PSP. Not an rts though, more of a turn based affair but just as bloody.

And yes, if they really can't do the 'nids for DOW, it may be time for a sequel. I think they should do the Inquisition the same way they do the Tau. Choose in game between Demonhunters, Witchunters, and Xenoshunters.

STOP SAYING TYRANIDS! IT WONT HAPPEN! It's not possible to do them with the engine the game uses, you people arent listening...
They're not going to try to make a race that they know they cant just because the people want it. They DO have lots of other races to choose from..

Though, yeah, kinda gotta agree with cornholio. I took a skim through the nid codex and from what i saw, its not possible to do nids cause of the engine.
Another reason for the likely absence of nids in the future is because of their digestion pools or whatever theyre called.. i mean, if THQ made anything even similar to the effect of them, then the nid player would basically be able to turn anything at all he killed into more nids. And no one even THINK about saying "well, maybe they wont put the pools in..!", because without the pools there wouldnt even BE nids.
And i totally agree with cornholio on his quote " If the nids were added, then it would just be another hopeless Starcraft clone." Think about it, people.

I personally would love to see 'nids since fans have been "screaming blue murder" for them for ages. I am a Blood Angels player but would love to see a genestealer tear a Space marine in half

    ...Ooooooh...

Then again maybe would need an upgrade of GFX for that from each Genestealer like 'KilledbyNecropsy' mentioned... who else is there...

Imperium already has Marines and Guard, Witch Hunters and Daemonhunters is overkill ((to me))...

DEldar are getting a make-over... maybe to be released in cahoots with a new DoW expansion ...

    RT: Signing Off

Dark Eldar are being reworked by GW so their not likely to come out before then. Inquisition would make for an intresting option, but rough to implament. Nid's just wont happen without a sequal, so we get one! yay. BattleFleet Gothic would make for an intersting game, but it sohuld definitly not be linked to DOW2. the amount of work that would require would likely detract from the Ground War goodness. but it definitly Deserves its own game. Also, Company of Heros IS going to influence DOW2, you can count on that, No one in the RTS industry who hasent done much work on their current project is going to ignore its influence.

I believe I heard somewhere that they would not add the Tyranids to DoW because the current graphics engine would not do them justice. Still have the good ole' Dark Elder and perhaps the Witchhunters to arrive on scene, maybe even some more Grey Knight (Daemonhunter??) units. I myself cannot wait.

Since THQ-Relic lost Homeworld brand, and want to develop (hopefully) a space-battle-themed game, they are probably developing a Warhammer 40K game which should be obviously Battlefield Gothic. If that's true, it is unnecessary to wait for Homeworld 3)))

    Hell YEAH!

"Feel free to speculate!" you say? Ok! My speculations are that:
    - there will be two more expansions (although I would like to see only one, but bigger)
    - Relic Online will be implemented
    - Daemonhunters, Dark Eldar, Tyranids and Witch Hunters will be added (probably grouped in pairs for each add-on)
    - old fractions will have new units (like, for instance, Eldars can get: Dire Avengers, Striking Scorpions, Wraithguards, Swooping Hawks, Shining Spears, War Walkers and...many more )
    - new race-specific buildings will be added (like, for instance, entrenchments, blockades, monoliths or other that will give bonuses to unit defence rate or something in this sense)
    - the "Total-War-type" tactical gameplay element will be further developed (maybe by adding space battles based on the Battlefleet Gothic system?)
    - Relic will make some changes in the gameplay system so the game will get a dose of freshness.

    Anybody got some other ideas?

qiwihead, I've actually heard of something on the order of 1.5 million + from Tranj. 260k for DoW and WA combined would put it at roughly half of what Homeworld sold, which from my experience, is blatantly untrue.

Besides, most games don't even make a profit anyway.

My money's on online persistant conflict through Relic Online (that'll be integrated into Dawn of War to replace the gamespy matchmaking sometime in the nearish future).

    But that's just a guess.

    and Cornholio89,

Star Craft was a rip off of warhammer 40k, Star Craft was initially meant to be a warhammer 40k RTS, but games workshop and blizzard had a falling out... so instead of dumping the games (warcraft 1 and starcraft as we know them today) they ditched the warhammer title and based them on a similar universe just without the copyright.

IF they build it around a souped-up version of CoH, they could have the full sequel done by '07, no problem. At this point an expansion pack would have to include all the things listed above to be worth it, since the remaining two 40k armies are officially not happening (last I heard).
My money is on full sequel, hopefully by late summer, probably october again, Tyranids very definitely appearing right out of the box.

IMO They need to change a few things. I loved Dawn of War, still play it, but theres just something missing. Company of Heroes I enjoyed loads too, and it seemed to have something Dawn of War didnt. Soldiers moved into cover and the enviroments were so detailed. Dawn of war lacked detail, even the boards I play on have more scenery... I'd also like to see variation in the units, besides colour. Lets have the Marine Tactical Squads take on the characteristics of what you give them, I want my Space Wolves to be Space Wolves...

If they were to twiddle those finer things... Id love it more and cry myself to sleep with tears of joy ^_^

Its a possibility the next expansion may take place on Mars, for thouse who dont know, Mars is a key planet in the 40k serise, basicly its a huge machine world in the 41st millenium. Although I could be wrong since none of the Races of 40k have come close to our solar system (exept Necrons) in a while. O and they cant add Tyranids, thyre ugly and they will screw up the game engine because of their vast numbers, therefore lagging up the game all of the time. Secondly, Tyranids really have no structures, they drop out of the sky in spore pods and infect organisms with their deadly spore therefore spawning other Tyranid organisms. Plus if they added them the Dawn of War serise will become a hopeless Starcraft clone.
