While NanaOn-Sha and its president Masaya Matsuura have most recently been tied to the DS Tamagotchi Connection: Corner Shop series, they haven't forgotten their rhythm-based roots. The creators of original PlayStation games PaRappa the Rapper and Vib-Ribbon today released another music game, musika, for Apple's iPod.

Released in conjunction with Sony BMG Music Entertainment and created by Masaya, NanaOn-Sha's musika is a combination music visualizer and game. Players choose a song from their library, and as the song plays, musika presents a series of characters using a variety of different effects. If the character on the screen is included in the title of the track, players have to push the iPod's center button. If it isn't, they can allow the letter to pass, or push the fast-forward or rewind buttons to skip to the next letter.

Consecutive correct inputs build the multiplier, while too many errant guesses will end the song early. There are also a handful of emoticon characters to provide bonuses along the way. The game includes three difficulty levels, high score lists, a visualizer, and a tutorial mode. It is now available to download for $4.99 through iTunes.

That game just sounds stupid, I'd rather play solitaire, and that comes preloaded on ipod vids

You click when the letter on the screen is in the song? No thank you. At least minigolf and bowling on the iPod was almost fun, this is just madness

Vib-Ribbon was one of the most fun, simple games I ever played, though I'd never get an iPod just to play this game.

I got an ipod to pack in tons of music wherever I go, not to play games. Thanks, but no thanks. If I want to play a game wherever I go- that's where my DS comes in handy...

For something to do while waiting on the bus with your iPod, $5 isn't bad. I'd rather have good ol' Tetris for that purpose, though.

Well, iPods do need some more games that involve music, sense it is an mp3 player. It doesn't sound too hard to me. Maybe you're supposed to play it when you're waiting for something, such as waiting for your girlfriend to pick out clothes at the mall.

don't download this! if that, if i may say, poor idea of simply pressing a button upon a correct answer (character whatever) as they pass by, just buy the iquiz (not promoting anything whatsoever) because it's 2 bucks and it has the same thing, plus a lot of more game modes............ what a rip off!

EDIT: correction it's only a buck (99 cents), i just looked...

it might be cool to have a crappy racing game that takes advantage of the click wheel. Or maybe a crappy driving game where you use the click wheel like a steering wheel, and the click for honking your horn

I'd actually find it interesting if they could somehow rework Vib Ribbon to work on iPods. That game seemed to be like a very interesting gem from the PS1 days that a lot of people missed out on and it could be a suitable match for something like the iPod. If I recall, the original Vib Ribbon used on the system's limited amount of RAM, so I doubt size would be much of an issue.

Perhaps a homebrewer could figure it out once they learn how to make iPod games?
