It's obvious that the people behind Comedy Central's TV series South Park are gamers. The animated show, which follows the adventures of four foul-mouthed grade schoolers in a suburban Colorado town, has returned to games time and time again. In September, the episode "Make Love Not Warcraft" won the Outstanding Animated Program honor at the 2007 Creative Arts Emmy Awards. Show creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker have also targeted the PlayStation Portable, Wii, Xbox 360, and Dance Dance Revolution for onslaughts of mockery.
South Park is currently on a streak of episodes tangentially tied to gaming. The October 10 episode "More Crap" paralleled the recent feature documentary King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters in the way it followed a character's quest to hold the world record for largest bowel movement. That was followed by the three-part "Imaginationland," which featured a host of fictitious characters in pitched battle, including the Street Fighter series' Akuma, Zelda antagonist Ganondorf, Mario nemesis Wario, and the classic Pac-Man ghosts.
This weekend, South Park will once again feature games front and center. "Guitar Queer-o" will see Stan and Kyle get into Activision's Guitar Hero game, which drives a wedge between the two when Kyle can't measure up to Stan's virtual virtuosity. The episode will premiere Wednesday night at 10 p.m. Pacific, no doubt followed by a Chapelle's Show-esque barrage of repeat airings until the following week's season finale.
