Mistwalker's Lost Odyssey stands as one of the more anticipated role-playing games on the horizon for the Xbox 360. Still, Microsoft is keen on having gamers pony up their dollars in advance of the game's anticipated February 12 release. Microsoft has announced that preorders are now being taken for Lost Odyssey, and those who take the plunge will get a jump on some in-game downloadable content.

The downloadable content includes a bonus mission and an unlockable weapon. While everyone will have access to the DLC later this spring, those who preorder will have access to the upgrades when the game launches. The brainchild of legendary game designer Hironobu Sakaguchi, Lost Odyssey, along with Blue Dragon, leads Microsoft's push into the Japanese role-playing game sector. Not yet rated, it will be available exclusively for the Xbox 360.

Ok guys, I havent slept all night and I have nothing better to do than to pick on everybody mwahah... So I'm curious, this board is to discuss the game... am I right? And from what I've read (well, all the posts) we have around one guy actually responding to another's message and the rest is just... "ill get the game", "I have already pre-ordered", or... "I don't trust mistwalker" etc. Couldnt you just go outside and yell, I am preordering it? I just don't get the point of posting here with something that nevertheless nobody cares about because... if you like JRPG, well ofc ur gonna get it... but if ur unsure then yeaa maybe/not. lol I don't know where I was going with this anymore so I'll just join the wave hah! *preordered* a moment in the life of lil'john (dave chappelle) Yayah, WHAT, OKAY... peace

I probably wont be preordering this but the game looks great, alot better than blue dragon did, that game never apealed to me. The combat system looks almost exactly the same as final fantasy (turn based ofcourse) in the way it's been presented, and the ui looks very user friendly. My only concearn is wiether or not i'll be able to change the voices to japanese and have english subs, since i really hate the way the translations come across in all these jrpgs.. This & DMC4 make febuary a very good mounth

Battle footage is available on www.gametrailers.com IIRC. Make no mistake that the battle system is TURN BASED to a tee - which I happen to like - so yes it's quite similar to Final Fantasies 7-10 in that way.

It's looking leagues better than Blue Dragon at least.

Blue Dragon had some good elements, but the boss battle song made me cringe every time I heard it. Eventually I got sick of muting the damn thing and traded it in. Lost Odyssey could be good. Though I have been disappointed with a lot of RPGs lately.

So, I wonder if the weapon will be available right away or if you'll have to some ridiculous quest for it i.e. FFXII and the "ultimate weapon". At the start of FFXII, and if you opened this random chest, then the ultimate weapon would no longer be available.

I know the game is going to be awsome. I've read the story (what's known so far) and I've seen the gameplay videos. What drives me crazy is that it's not even listed yet on Amazon.co.UK !!! WTF is that about...? Do they know something about a serious EU delay that other retailers don't?

Eclipse_ShinRa @ctg867, LO is better then FFVII, FFVIII, FFX and FFXII. Its nothing like FF IMO..

Eclipse_ShinRa ^Have you played? I don't think it's crap, I think its very good game.. I hope it gets JRPG of year next year..
    --

Nice hypocracy. And the game is supposed to be a lot like FF. Even if you look up Final Fantasy on GS one of the results is LO.

Eclipse_ShinRa: Crap is what you call FF now.. You know, since the key memebers left((half of them anyway)) they can't come up with new IPs.. No IU is not Square game.. All Square is doing is milking FF, KH, and DQ. Looks like they ran out of idea's.. Also, the staff that worked on LO is great one..

FFXII got a 9 and was runner up to Oblivion for RPG of the year last year. That sure is crap isn't it. IU is co-developed by Square Enix and Tri-Ace. Last Remnant, Lords of Vermillion, New MMO project. What do you know they have new IPs in the works. Having a great staff doesn't mean the game will be great.

If they are going to bribe us to buy before a game is rated, they better allow Gamespot access to these games for an early review. I trust the critics here on gamespot. Well either way, I can preorder, get access to the special, and return the title before taking it home if the review says the game sucks.

Blue Dragon was great for what it was. I do relish the ole turn based combat. So I'm looking forward to Lost Odyssey. I was hoping this was going to be online along the lines of FFXI but unfortunately, it doesn't appear it's a MMORPG as I had first thought. Let's hope this game does well in lieu of a MMORPG in true Japanese style. PSO is great, but it doesn't give the feel of true exploration and FFXI just seems well, dated. Let's hope this is a beginning of great RPG's being developed for the 360.

First of all? The graphics are great all around. In the cgi movies? the graphics are great. In the gameplay? the graphics are great. I like what he does in the cgi movies but when the actual gameplay begins? You seem to stand, wait, attack, stand wait, attack. With very few exceptions in certain circumstances and even they seem to be prescripted cgi. Like I said I like how he fights in the cgi movies prior to the in game fighting. I just kind of wish they'd let you have more of that and not just have it be prescripted. This judging from what I've seen of the gameplay video for this game.

I want to feel like every strike that's made is because I chose to make it. Every stab was laid in to a foe because I chose to impale them. There's no reason why this can't be done in an RPG Japanese or not think God of War. The interactivity in combat they had in that game or even to some extent the more recent Assassin's Creed which blends equally great looking cgi graphics with responsive gameplay in a 3d world.

I understand its a roleplaying game but just because its a role playing game doesn't mean it has to play like one...

Lost Odyssey has received very good reviews in Japan. Famitsu Xbox gave it 9/8/8/8 and Yahoo Japan averages 87%. The praise is often from FF players too.

The criticisms are mostly on combat load-times and the somewhat woody voice acting. If you like JRPG but ditch LO because it's not an FF game you should consider moving to a Hokkaido cattle ranch.

Ouch, I guess they're trying pretty hard to make sure Lost Odyssey wont end up like a complete failure like Blue Dragon did. Though they did put a lot of money to get a guy from Square Enix to make a Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest rip off. Ie: Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon.

@majin_vegeta300, Blue Dragon was great game, plus he said form the start it wasn't going to this great epic game.. But it was something to give fans while they wait on bigger title..

Also, many ppl loved BD>. The ones who talk trash about it either just played the demo or never played game full game..

    --
@Icarusmk3, oh you are funny.. Poor little Sony fanboy doesn't get a great game.. LO has gotten get reviews in Japan.

Who cares about FF, that become trash really.. since the key members at Square left..

In the end there wasting there time? The only reason FFXIII isn't on the 360 is because Sony paid for it.. You really think a 3rd party game will be on a system only without MS or Sony paying for it?

    ahahaha..

I love Chrono Trigger, it's one the best JRPG ever made((Well it is the best)), but its not like Sony is getting that title either.. Square is busy milking FF, KH and DQ.

As of late I can't stand Square-Enix's games with the way there trying to do "real time" I really can't stan new style JRPG's its like there trying to be westernRPG's without even knowing how, absolutely loved BD though old style classic JRPG so cant wait for this IMO a real FF game.

Bet its going to suck just like Blue Dragon. Microsoft shouldn't have given so much power to Sakaguchi, games are built by teams not single visionaries. Even if Sakaguchi has done amazing work before at Square that doesn't equate to the fact that he will be able to achieve new heights at a new and relatively inexperienced group such as Mystwalker.

In the end Microsoft's just wasting their money hoping for a Chrono Trigger or Final Fantasy for the x360.

  • majin_vegeta300

JRPG's have been getting stale, and Blue Dragon made me leary of Hironobu Sakaguchi. I'll wait for the review on this one, the DLC isin't worth it if the game sucks.
