A staple of the brain training craze has been Sudoku, a logic-based numbers game where players attempt to fill in a grid while operating under set parameters. While the puzzler has appeared in a number of minigame compilations and stand-alone products on various portable devices, it hasn't made nearly as much headway on consoles.

That changes today, however, as Merscom has announced Buku Sudoku, the first game of its kind for Microsoft's Xbox Live Arcade. As it wouldn't be an XBLA game worth its salt without multiplayer, Merscom has added in both competitive and cooperative modes to the puzzler, as well as mixed up the Sudoku formula by creating puzzles of various sizes and difficulty levels.

Buku Sudoku is currently slated to hit Microsoft's online arcade during Q2 2008.

"it hasn't made nearly as much headway on consoles."
So now that its on XBL thats gonna happen?
Yep, thats not biased at all... though Sudoku in any way, shape or form shouldn't cost me money.

Jenova, I find it hard/near impossible to play 4 player on paper. Solving puzzles with friends, family, and sig.others can be quite relaxing. Or you can take it to LIVE and play head to head or team vs team. I had problems playing various PC sudoku games in any co-op fashion, cause players would have to point or take over the mouse, or interrupt with speech. And PiNwOrM is right, any way you play, you're earning achievements, and the controls make for faster entry than writing - really.

Why waste paper when you can play instantly and easily on the xbox to waste time, and get achievements while at it..

Who cares about this stupid game? Even if you did, why would you play it on anything but paper with a pencil?

I'll bet you it costs 10 bucks and has 'bonus' downloadable content for 'an additional fee'. Some games that's okay for, like Band of Bugs.

But a game DESIGNED to be a throwaway printed on paper? Comeon.

Awesome, I was just thinking that XBL needed sudoku. I could care less about the weird modes, but as long as they'res traditional 9x9 1-9 sudoku

Why? Why must this evil puzzle fad continue to spread?

    Letters? In MY Sudoku?

Hopefully it will include the 9x9 grid as well.

That's nice for Soduko lovers,it looks like it's good quality too.But the thing is,I don't like Soduko and if I did,I would buy a Soduko book for the same price and it would have like 200 pages.

Sudoku helped me stay awake during many of my college courses... but I guess that's moot since I wasn't paying attention to the prof.

    onizuka:

your right about the ps3 already having Sudoku. However, the article isn't saying it will be the first Sudoku ever for a console it is simply saying the "first game of its kind FOR Microsoft's Xbox Live Arcade." meaning a first for XBLA.

ummm...the PS3 has had Sudoku since it first launched. This certainly looks like a nice addition to XBLA, but I wouldn't consider it anything big.
