With Microsoft in the midst of its month-long Summer of Arcade promotion, the game publisher gave Xbox Live gamers a good look at its hand for August. And between Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 and the just-released Braid, that hand has thus far proven to be full of aces.

But what about September? Today, CrunchTime Games said that its overhead shooter Shred Nebula would slot into Microsoft's first weekly Wednesday release for the month, touching down on Xbox Live Arcade September 3. Gamers can venture into the nebula for 800 Microsoft points ($10).

The first effort from indie developer CrunchTime Games, Shred Nebula promises to be an experience unique from the glut of top-down shooters already available on Microsoft's online arcade. As per GameSpot's preview of the game from November, CrunchTime Games has drawn much of its influence from the 1997 competitive shooter SubSpace, and the game will feature a variety of weapons and spaceborne craft, as well as single- and multiplayer modes.

For the most up-to-date look at Shred Nebula, check out live gameplay footage from this week's edition of GameSpot's live weekly show, On the Spot (beginning around the 60:30 mark).

Wow that is pretty tenuous link. I think the pun (however, poor) was referring to the title of the game.

If this game plays similar to SubSpace from back in the day.. it could be fun, but I don't like the idea of Asteroids style controls, dual-stick is much more precise.

thenephariouson I got the wax off achievement tonight and Subspace0 I have the actual retail cd of Subspace when it was first released so long ago.

I used to think how come no one made a subspace type game for xbox live...now all I need is for someone to make a Cyberstrike clone and the xbox live arcade will be complete.

XBLA needs some more turn-based strategy. Sierra did a rather bad job on their addition on XBLA in that genre, if there would be any way Intelligent Systems would sell the Advance Wars games or a remake of them on XBLA that would be legendary.

I want to break this string by just saying Microsoft has really out done themselves so far. I think the best products ever made by Microsoft is DOS, Word and Xbox Live! I'd put Windows up there but Apple was better at that one. I just hope the new dashboard lives up to the Blades. I'm also optimistic about Xbox Originals it's potential is huge!!! Can I get an Amen?!?!

The "Summer of Arcade" is truly the best line up of XLBA games ever released in such short period between each release.
It's hit after hit. I really gotta buy some damn points, lol.
