Logitech announces Speed Force Wireless for Wii

Maybe I didn't watch enough Reading Rainbow as a kid, but whenever I pick up Nintendo's Mario Kart racing wheel, I only see a circular hunk of plastic with a big hole in the middle. It looks like Logitech has a new wireless racing wheel for players cursed with limited imaginative...

It looks like Logitech has a new wireless racing wheel for players cursed with limited imaginative capabilities such as myself.

Now, that's what a real wheel looks like.

The Logitech Speed Force Wireless wheel sits in your lap and behaves as a wheel should by providing gravitational and rotational resistance. Logitech partnered up with EA to support force-feedback in the publisher's upcoming Need for Speed Undercover racing game for the Wii. The wheel doesn't come with a set of foot pedals or a shift stick, but it does have a set of paddle shifters.

That's a paddling.

The wheel comes with a 2.4GHz wireless USB transmitter that plugs into the Wii. The console interface may be wireless, but you will still need to plug the wheel into an AC electrical outlet for power.

The wheel has a wireless transmitter compartment for easy transport.

Expect to see the Logitech Speed Force Wireless in stores for $100 this November, just in time for Need for Speed Undercover.

    What the hell? What is the point in bothering with all the 'wireless' stuff if you have to plug it in with wires?

    Expect to pay an extra £20/$30 for a battery pack/charger combo which Logitech will probably release months later when they realise nobody wants a wireless wheel with wires.

    I can just see the packaging now - 'Logitech wireless(sort of) wheel'

    $100 dollars for that? and you have to have a power cord for the wheel? that doesn't sound very good....

    Don't pick on the Wii wheel. It was simple because it wasn't about control, it was about immersion. It doesn't change anything in how you handle the game, it just makes it pretty. In contrast, the Zapper is supposed to tackle both.

    I doubt this will do much for Mario Kart, but it should be a godsend for grittier racers where physics is not your friend if you don't know how to use it.

    i remember getting that one logitec wheel for the gamecube for 20 dollars from toysrus, right when nfs underground came out
