Making music on toy instruments is tough enough on its own, but that goes doubly so when players have nothing to strum along to. Rush fans have learned that the hard way this week, given that the promised full-album download of the prog-rock act's 1981 record Moving Pictures did not make it onto the Xbox 360's Rock Band store yesterday.

The good news is that Harmonix is aware of the issue. "Just so you know, we know that Rush's Moving Pictures isn't up yet," said community manager Sean Baptiste on the developer's official Web site. "There is a technical difficulty that is being worked out. I'll alert you when it is all clear." The bad news is that, as of press time, Harmonix had not established a time frame for when the DLC will be available.

Rush's Moving Pictures is the latest full-album download to be added to the MTV Games-published rhythm title. The track pack, which includes such classic rock-radio staples as "Tom Sawyer" and "YYZ," is expected to appear in the PlayStation 3 edition of the game tomorrow.

For more on Rock Band, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.

[UPDATE] The Rush full-album DLC for the Xbox 360 is officially going no where in a hurry. "Unfortunately, due to unforeseen technical difficulties, we won't be able to release Rush's "Moving Pictures" this week," said Baptiste in an update to Harmonix' site for the game. "We'll be working on it as hard as we can, but it looks like it could be a couple of weeks to fix."

Baptiste noted that Harmonix will be rearranging its schedule to ensure new content arrives this week. The community member promises to have more information on what songs will be added to the game's downloadable library soon.

SpeedMan72, yes I think "Breaking The Habit" and "Lying from You" would be very fun to play.

Xeiphyer, yes I agree that it's very stupid that RB2 comes out for only one console first. Okay, if Microsoft paid to have it that way, fine. More power to 'em. But at least tell us when the PS3 version is coming and not leave us hanging... I want to have a date to look forward too, you know.

Ahh, not on PSN yet! They have 3 songs by Locksley now available... so are they delaying the release of Moving Pictures for both XBL and PSN now? I live in Japan, and PSN is usually updated by Friday 11:00 am. It's 2:00 pm now. Everything else has been updated and we only have these 3 songs...

    TO GNBFD:

The Playstation store usually updates on fridays, (Although sometimes thursdays for some reason.) So either way its not out on the PSN yet, however if u actually read the full thing it says:

"The track pack, which includes such classic rock-radio staples as "Tom Sawyer" and "YYZ," is expected to appear in the PlayStation 3 edition of the game tomorrow." So expect it on PSN tomorrow.

PS: Anyone think its super stupid that Rock Band 2 comes out on 360 on september 14th or whatever and other platforms dont even have a release date yet? Whats up with that...

    Oh ****!
Well, it wasn't on the PS Store today.

Well that strikes out having it be a probem with XBL or Achievements. So it's not the 360's fault, it's Harmonix' fault.

Well, I don't have the game yet anyway, so I can wait

A couple of weeks? I can only imagine what kind of technical difficulty they have on their hands.

  • raahsnavj

    Posted Aug 28, 2008 12:20 pm PT

I bet they ran into a snag of a vocalist playing XYZ and getting 100% on expert? Maybe a design decision had to be made to only allow certain parts for certain songs? Other than those I can't think of any other 'technical' snags that could happen.

I just hope it isn't a 'technical' snag of licensing...

Dang I was really wanting to play those songs and this week would have been perfect for me. Oh well, hopefully something else cool comes out in its place.

So this week we are going to get something awful (a la Devo) instead of Rush?

    Posted Aug 28, 2008 8:47 am PT

I understand. Mapping Neil Peart's huge drumkit to 4 pads and one bass pedal will be quite tricky indeed. Shame it had to be Rush that got delayed and not some dross.

Neilo_, yes all of your DLC from RB will be compatible with RB2. Also, there will be a process that allows songs from RB disc to be imported to RB2. Not all, but most. And FYI, all future DLC will work with both RB and RB2.

itsevoultion i think you should keep your opinion to yourself, in a way it shows that everyone here has the same taste, and it obviously must be good since so many people agree. that aside rush is my favourite band, i will for sure be buying rock band with my new 60gb 360. but i have one question, will my downloads carry over to rock band 2, or do i have to buy both? i dont have rb1 yet

Wow. The BEST DLC RB will ever get, there's a problem with it lol.
But I do think it's because of YYZ.

They can take there time with releasing this though, as long as we get it (and I still need to get the game lol)

I agree with DevilMayAsian. It is extremely surprising that Harmonix managed to make it this far without any technical difficulties. It just sucks that it had to happen on the BEST DLC YET.

  • DevilMayAsian

    Posted Aug 27, 2008 6:35 pm PT

Seeing as how this is the first glitch in Harmonix's insane promise to release DLC every week, this is very forgivable. They've been at it since the game's release, so I'm not very steamed about it...though, it sucks that the glitch was in the Rush album. =/

    Posted Aug 27, 2008 5:14 pm PT

Well if the technical difficulty is only on the 360 i assume its got something to do with the fact that there are no vocals on YYZ. So maybe the achievement for getting 100% on expert vocals gets unlocked because they dont have to worry about that on PS3(no achievement system but there are trophies so who knows).

YYZ is going to be awesome. an 11- minute Rush epic (The Camera Eye) in Rock Band EVEN COOLER!!!! Red Barchetta ( still awesome ).... in my opinion this is the best album Rock Band has released so far. for now.....

psn id: badgerpower1 (add me ONLY if you have the full Rush album and if you play expert guitar/bass (and I mean good playing) I passed the endless setlist on expert drums and singing by myself btw) Rush is awesome!
