The shooter genre has been stocked with some of the best-rated games in the last year, and continues to be a market flush with competition. Lucky for gamers, a pair of publishers said today they would be offering free trials to woo prospective purchasers before their games' respective releases.

LucasArts has confirmed today that gamers will be afforded a sneak peek at its terraforming shooter Fracture in advance of the game's October 7 release. In the Fracture demo, players will be dropped into the battle-worn shoes of Atlantic Alliance grunt Jet Brody as he solves puzzles and rips asunder the already-ravaged, dried-up seascape of the San Francisco Bay. The demo will be available on Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network beginning September 18.

Valve also has plans to give gamers a head start on massacring zombies in a free trial of its multiplayer-centric survival horror shooter Left 4 Dead. Speaking to Videogamer.com, Gabe Newell noted that the exact details for the PC and Xbox 360 demo have yet to be finalized, but it will most likely have players fending off the crazed living dead in a hospital environment. Newell also said the demo will offer gamers a taste of both single-player and online co-op action. GameSpot has subsequently confirmed with Valve that the demo will be available in advance of the game's announced November 20 release date.

    any news on exactly when the downloadable demo for Left 4 Dead will be available?

    Alright, Fracture's demo came and went and then the game came and got a crap rating.I have not played it but most reviews I see are not good. Anyways, both came and went and now here it is October and still no Left 4 Dead. Whats going on? Like many of you Iam really tired of waiting, but I guess I have no choice. Either wait the rest of this month out hoping for a demo or wait the month and seventeen days and play the game, either way I really cant wait.

    reminds me of what they did with the halo 3 demo, they put it on the crack down game and ppl didn't realize that crackdown was a great game, yes LFD is going to be awesome but play both games.

    That reminds me.....This is really nerdy.In Half life 2 ep.1, The level were your stuck underground(Where you first met the conbine zombies). At the end of the level you and Alex wait for the Elevator,while an onslaught of zombie hoards attack y. I choosed to let alex stay in elevator why,while I fight an Infinted(as time go by more and more appear >.

    i played the Fracture demo.. it's not a bad game, i like the gameplay but the controls are a bit skewy...



    As for the L4D demo, im hoping it's a Oct demo so i can finally get my fill of zombie action.. i been watching every zombie movie, playing every mod or game about zombies, i even pretend im surround by zombies when im bored at 2 am. I am just on a zombie-palooza!

    Just the concept of L4D has me chomping at the bit. No offense to games like Resident Evil but one man can't do it alone. Safety is in numbers, and ammo clips.

    I read through this quickly and thought that the Left 4 Dead demo was coming out on September 18. Sadly, it's the Fracture demo instead.

    Most developers dont use split screen for atmosphere if u can only see one screen u cant see what ur friend can so i builds team work also if ur friend jumps u wonder what is happening and get tense . . . atmosphere is fun!

    RE5 is different from what i was saying. Ever seen 23 Days later, I've always wanted to play a game like that. This might be that game, and i can't wait to play it. Not that i don't want to play RE5, of course that game is a must, but it won't be seen till 2009. You know what I'm saying?

    can't wait for L4D. i don't get why developers like valve don't include split-screen though. if you don't want to use splitscreen, then just don't. isn't it easier for 4 friends to play on 1-2 xboxes than on 4?

    I hope it doesn't require you to use split screen, when playing coop i wanna see what my character's doing not half of what he's doing and the other half of what one of my teammates is doing.

    Killer2401 From what I've read online Left 4 Dead will have two player split screen four player online, Also you can play two player split screen with two other players online or bots

    No offense to people who excited about the Fracture demo......umm I am sure there's gotta be at least one person excited about it, but me its all about Left 4 Dead. I can't freaking wait to play Left 4 Dead, even if it's just one stage. With the AI Director that one stage will be different ever time and I am sure to lose many hours playing the demo. Now with that said, September 18 is the release date for the fracture demo, when the hell are we getting our Left 4 Dead demo? I guess the good news is that the wait will give them time to fine tune it and make it as great as I hope it will be.

    I don't have a very good pc, so, I'm getting it for 360, either way, i can't wait for L4D.. My lord, this game will kick ass.

    I hope they don't screw up somewhere, I've been looking for a real zombie survival game for a while, and this one looks like it's interesting. hoping for the best.

    I dunno how reliable a source it was, but there was a rumour going around that Left 4 Dead was coming to the ps3 in 2009, give it a search on google. But again thats just a rumour I have no idea.

    Get a 360. We all know there have been some problems with them, but not all of them are crap. I don't know one person (in real life) whose 360 broke down on them. Me and all my friends got them when they were first released and have had no problems.
