Marvel vs. Capcom 2 vs. Xbox 360 and PS3?

What we heard: Standing at a synergistic crossroads of fan service and fighting acumen, Marvel vs. Capcom 2 was one of Capcom's last 2D arcade brawlers. Boasting a beefy roster of more than 50 fighters, the game might not have been the most balanced of Capcom's offerings, but it was certainly the flashiest.

But flashy as it might have been, it wasn't online. It was ported to the Dreamcast, PlayStation 2, and original Xbox, but none of those versions allowed for online multiplayer matches. So when NeoGAF poster Shard noticed that the ESRB listing for the game had expanded to include the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, the message-board population rejoiced (if the quantity of animated .GIF response posts is any indicator of enthusiasm).

The initial posting lacked any evidence of the listing, which is nowhere to be found on the ESRB Web site at the time of this writing. However, Shard has long been a news-sifting member of the community, and his account was backed by another poster with an apparent screen grab of the ratings site from when the listing was still active. Further into the thread, more posters added to the pile of evidence with screenshots apparently showing listings of Marvel vs. Capcom 2 on menus for PartnerNet, a sort of Bizarro Xbox Live Marketplace in which game journalists under non-disclosure agreements can pull down previewable builds of upcoming Live Arcade games.

Interestingly, when GameSpot checked the ESRB database to verify the post, no such listing was found: not for the Xbox 360 and PS3, and not even for the PS2 and Xbox. The lack of rating for a previously released game well within the ESRB archive's time frame suggests that the game had been listed, and rather than being amended to have the Xbox 360 and PS3 mentions removed, it was taken down entirely.

The official story: "Sorry, no comment."--A Capcom representative.
An ESRB representative had not returned request for comment as of press time.

Bogus or not bogus?: Not bogus, but it might not be coming anytime soon, either. After all, we're still waiting on Die Hard for the Xbox 360 and a host of other ESRB/PartnerNet leaks.

    if it did does come out for the 360 ill buy it the same day its released. i use to have an old copy of it for my xbox but my cuz destroyed it by leaving out in the sun next to his window left a ton of weird spots on it

    I think an HD remix of this (or... Marvel Vs Capcom 3 done in the SFIV engine) would be fantastic!

    Im all for this game but I found a flaw. On the ESRB site Marvel vs Capcom 2 says its for the PS2, Xbox, Xbox 360, and PS3. HOWEVER, this game also came out for the Dreamcast, so where is that on the platform list? Because when you look at Marvel vs Capcom it says Dreamcast and Playstation. I don't know what this means but I really want this game to be released again, in HD, and maybe some extra's woulden't hurt, and of course online capabilities. We can only hope.

    MvC2 definitely just exuberates gaming brilliance and is one of the few decent games that features Marvel characters, it's music just sucks. But I forgive the Japanese for their misconception of Americans with bad jazz music

    Sorry for the tripple post but... what if there were exclusive characters!!! Like Snake and Master chief! Also imagine if their was cross play between the sony and microsoft platforms!!!
    (I can Imagine master cheif pixilated throwing a plasma grenade in place of a haruken!)

    It's sad how maney people download MvC2 online illigaly for their PC. and how many more dont buy it do to short supply and a huge $60 price tag. Sony and Microsoft, do gamers everywhere a faver and put this in your respective marketplace with internet functionality. I would happily pay 30 dollars for this game on xbox live market place so please... Bring this to xbox live!

    Great game, it really doesn't matter what console it's on. This is one of the very few games out there where gameplay far out-wieghs graphics.

    I made a mistake when I sold my PS2 version cause I didnt understand the concept of DRE's back then when my PS2 stopped reading CD's. Now I cant get it back cause it costs over $100 everywhere.... so this will be some sort of 2nd chance for me if the bring it to PS3, however they do it it will be well appreciated

    they mentioned something before when there was rumour of a third, this however seems much more logical. as long as its on a disc ill buy it (i already have it for dc/xbox

    I would love to see this game again come out. I have it luckly for my ps2 but wouldn't mind having a newer version of it with online so that I can play with firends on it.

    If they make this game on the 360 or PS3 i'll buy it if its not 60 bucks. I say they should release it 4 40 bucks. Every1 already has this game 4 either the Dreamcast, PS2, or Xbox. Only people who r slow would buy this game again 4 full price. I wanna play this game online 2 but not if im payin full price 4 something i already own.

    Great news, let's hope it's not bogus.
    On the other hand, I remember reading some interviews with the people at capcom about porting MvC2 to the PSP after they released both Darkstalkers and Power Stone on the system. They said they would love to do that but they would face problems regarding licensing agreements with Marvel. I think EA bought the Marvel license back then.
    So, if they couldn't do it then, how can they do it now? Did they buy the license back?

    Sweet, looks like we'll be looking forward to one of the best fighting games ever. Such a great game will now be in the new gen consoles! Now, we'll wait...Marvel vs. Capcom 3 anyone?

    it's a shame marvel gave the rights over to ea for the pile o' crap known as marvel nemesis, or we might've seen mvc3. personally i think capcom's roster is so deep they could've done an all capcom sequel without marvel.

    I have to respond to an earlier Coment by "Kevboard". You actually think Marvel Vs Capcom 1 was more balanced the Marvel Vs Capcom 2???? Marvel 1 is not balanced at all. Supers do ridiculous damage, the chip damage is unbelievable just to name a couple of reasons. If you want balanced then play Marvel Super Heroes Vs. Street Fighter. Or at the very least X-Men Vs. Street Fighter. Even though X-Men VS SF has infinites and the damage for a throw is insane.

    The entry is back up in their database. It still mentions Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of PS3.

    But their database does not reflect what games get released. Thats why they list Mortal Kombat Deception for Xbox 360 (maybe reviewed because of 360 backwards compatibility?), Mortal Kombat 4 for SNES, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 for 3DO, Mk Mythologies: Sub Zero for PC...

    There are a ton of games in that database that have never seen the light of day. Not saying MvC2 for XBLA is bogus, but this ESRB entry isn't necessarily any kind of proof.
