Flower - what does it all mean?

Flower is one of those games that you can't quite place in a category. If you've already looked at our previous gameplay footage, you may be asking yourself why anyone would want to play a game with flower petals. And is this even a game in the first place? Flower is unique, it's beautiful and it even tells a story (really!) The preview build we received only gave us access to the first three levels, which look very similar to each other, making you wonder where this game is even going. We met with Sony and checked one of the later night levels (which you can see below) and found that those three levels were merely preparing you for things to come. Flower does blossom into something more than blades of grass and blue skies, but since the game is relatively short with only seven levels, we don't want to give away any surprises.

So, what do you think Flower is about?

Jenova Chen shares his philosophy behind thatgamecompany and Flower.

Some people even call Flower a casual game, it's not even that. Flower is something in a genre of it's own.

I wish more people supported games like these, we should be sick (and not support) of murder, violence, drugs, sex themes featured in 99% of all games

well..i think its time for me to put down the remote on FALLOUT3 and Call Of Duty and well. let my emotions and imaginations run wild. time for me to enjoy. not the Nuclear holocaust or the sight of guns blazing and getting shot ALOT by you Call of Duty peeps who play damn good and i play REAL BAD! (its a wonder i can actually get top score sometimes.) and play this game to feel the time. its actually a good concept. since nowadays. Politicians are coming down REAL hard on games. and how they relate violent behavior due to games. so let this be a shoutout against those that stereotyped gamers and also let them know that even violent game gamers do play such an interesting full-of-emotion game.

I've been waiting since early 2008 for this game. I hope it's a great game. Not to mention UNDER $10.00 To: ba11s0f5teel: what made you think this was gonna be a $60.00 game?? most PSN games are $10-15 at the most (socom is $43.00) but most games aren't $60 on the store!! Seven levels is a let down. I thought it was gonna be like FLOW with endless levels. I hope the add-on levels aren't too much.

Maybe this will be the peice that helps videogames get recognized as art.

    it won't be $60... duh...

I'm sorry but i'm not going to spend 60$ on a game about flowers... It would be cooler if it was like a first person adventure or something

This game will be the perfect antidote to the stress of waiting two weeks for this game to come out.

And so the circle of life is complete.

Reminds me of simplistic games like fl0w or de Blob (PC) or World of Goo. Great stuff

Can't wait! Looks awesome! Like playing a visual piece of art - simple, beautiful, and relaxing. Not many games offer those things, it's great to see new ideas and creative endeavors. I'd even pre order if I could!!

That reminds me of something I saw in an issue of game informer late last year, something with the eye toy on PS3 and moving around a fully 3-D little creature; this seems mildly entertaining at best until we know the actual premise.

It is cool to see developments of this sort, though not a game as much as we are used to, I suspect this will be something that will be worth exploring!

Plus, I have a suspicion it will have a reasonable price tag.

I liked the philosophy bit too... there's WAY more to games than that red "primal" area as he described it. Look at the success at the DS in Japan and you can see the fruits of such research. I've got my eye on these guys...

Is it just me, or does that last part with the dissonant piano chord when the lights blow out on the night level kinda show that there's going to be more to it that just flying around? ...Seems there's more than meets the eye.

    @corrus

It is a game, its just like flOw, something that looks great and is relaxing, yet very fun to play.

These kinds of games are the reason why i love the PS3 so much, there is so much variety and imagination in the games, they aren't all 1st person shooters.

Serene, looks peaceful and relaxing. Seems to be a different form of gameplay kinda reminds me of my experience with Linger in the shadows. If the price is right I will definitely be picking this up.
