First it destroyed my hand and now UFC 2009 Undisputed has infected the entire GameSpot office. I'm having trouble remembering the last time a game took over GS HQ so thoroughly. Homer and I spent way too much time talking about the game while in NYC for the Madden unveiling and, now that we're back, we've watched the game spread like wildfire among editorial, the GS video team, and beyond.

Tomorrow, all of that enthusiasm comes to a head on our special spring edition of On the Spot. We'll be airing a special tournament to determine the current reigning UFC 2009 champion, with the finals happening live on the air during the show. Here's a trailer to whet your appetite:

For the record, here's the UFC fighters that we'll be using in the tournament. All come from the welterweight division:

• B.J. Penn
• Georges St-Pierre
• Matt Serra
• Mike Swick
• Diego Sanchez
• Josh Koscheck
• Matt Hughes
• Karo Parisyan

Who do you think has the best shot at the title? Tune in tomorrow at 4 p.m. PDT for the full tournament video and the LIVE championship fight.

I finally have the game and I'm in careeer mode. I just now realized that I'm not learning any new moves because I'm doing something wrong in the training camp stage. I finally beat Liddell (3rd try) and I've beaten Lyoto Machida by decision. Overall a really good game, the menu and training system are terrible and slow but the action is top notch. I hope they fix these issues in the next version.

madman 420, you must be insane if you think any of those fighters can beat Fedor. The only way Fedor can lose to the guys you've mentioned is if somehow one of them was able to mount him and punch his arms until the ref decides to end the bout early by calling it a TKO. The UFC tends to award people for rapid punching someones arms during ground and pound, while in Pride if you ever saw people ground and pound (Look at Fedor's fights with Nog or Heath Herring) you can see they hunt and connect thier fist with the opponents head muiltiple times before the ref would give them the win.

AYBABTme, Fedor was never knocked out... He lost that fight due to a cut, and because it was a tournament someone HAD to move on to the next round. Since Fedor can't, due to the cut, Tsuyoshi Kohsaka was able to get the win and move on. If it wasn't a tournament, the fight would have probably ended up a No Contest like the time Big Nog cut Fedor with an unintentional headbutt in the Pride GP Final Conflict of 04. Next time actually know your sh*t before throwing out outrageous comments like the one you made.

Keitha313, Fedor is a great fighter but lets see him rumble with Lesnar, Kongo, and Gonzaga to claim UFC supremacy.. i doubt it, either he eventually gets beat or Dana White puts him in the UFC for some real challenge.. lets hope it happens.. Brock Lesnar is a Killing machine... DeathClutch

JRJ18, have you not played the demo? It is a badass game! Im just ready to get more fighters than Liddell and Rua. UFCundisputed.com says there will be 80 fighters in the game but when I look at the roster, I have only counted 32 fighters. thats still 48 fighters to go!!!

What this game needs is a bit of a PRIDE FC dose in it. Give me the choice to fight in PRIDE damn it!!!! They own the rights put in the game, give me the classic Sakuraba vs the entire Gracie clan matches. Hell even Liddell vs Mezger because Liddell was losing that fight until the massive overhand put Mezger back in the united states of slumber. Second where in the bleeping hell is Patrick Cote in the game!!

The hard part was to get my friends to play the demo. Over a week later, me and seven of my closest buds await the 19th.

Note to developers with a great game. Demos work. This went from a "Who cares, it'll probably suck." to a must have game that will be played on fight night for a long time to come.

How fitting I send this message with the "Submit" button. LOL...

This game is going to be ground breaking. I have been playing the demo consistently for hrs on end every day, and its only the DEMO!!!! I will not have a life once the full version comes out because I will be glued every day. Theres nearly 100 fighters altogether in this game. Can't even describe how excited I am about this game. This game was a sleeper and people overlooked it for the Fight Night 4. But this game will blow FN4 out of the water, I guarantee it!! Overall, anyone who enjoys fighting game needs to reserve their copy. Counting down till May 19th.

@Easy1891 - "im surprised my hand doesnt have a blister like that one dude who was playing for so long"

That was me! And yes, when playing as Chuck in the demo, Shogun is a submission machine, especially on expert level. It feels a bit unfair that it's so hard to submit someone at that difficulty, while they can submit you rather easily. But I guess that's why they call it "expert", huh?-

  • stinkymonkey58

    St-Pierre all the way baby!!!!

  • Eazy1891

    Posted Apr 30, 2009 1:47 pm PT

@BrianEk: I hear you there, playing as Liddel was hard with how good Rua is on the floor and submissions...i lost like 4 fights before i got used to it then i started to do pretty well...but they would go 3 rounds each time and liddel and rua would be getting it in...im surprised my hand doesnt have a blister like that one dude who was playing for so long...but just the demo made me go from "eh" about the game to "OMG i want this now" its going to be great

  • BrianEk GameSpot staff member

    Posted Apr 30, 2009 1:36 pm PT

@straybullet74 -- When playing Shogun in the demo, you essentially can't tap Chuck out at the higher difficulty level (at least, I couldn't). Best bet is to alternate low and high kicks, wearing him down over time, and getting in some ground and pound in the latter rounds after you break him down a bit.

  • straybullet74

    Posted Apr 30, 2009 1:34 pm PT

I hope the A.I is consistent. It's pretty good in the demo. I can never get The Iceman to tap, and that bastard always drops me with one shot if I try to stand up for too long. I can't wait to use Lyoto Machida and Nate Diaz.
