This interesting tidbit just popped up on the Aussie rating board database and looks to be confirmation that the long-rumoured Van Halen branded Guitar Hero game may not be all that far off.
The last time we heard talk of the game it was being thrown around as "Hard Rock Van Halen", and all manner of ideas about co-branding exercises with the cafe of the same name began to swirl. While rating the game with the new "Guitar Hero Headlining Van Halen" name doesn't mean Activision has nailed it down as final and set it in stone, we wonder if the "headlining" part may denote grouping stand-alone band expansions like Aerosmith--and the soon-to-be-released in Australia--Metallica into some sort of side series.
Activision was unable to give GameSpot AU any additional info and used the old "We do not comment on rumour and speculation" fallback line, but we have heard industry murmurs we may see an announcement very shortly. Stay tuned for a full update.
