NCAA Football 10: TeamBuilder Fixes and Dynasty DLC Update

NCAA Football 10's road to release has been a rollercoaster so far. For every bit of good news, such as the release of the free-to-use TeamBuilder tool for creating schools from scratch, there's been a disappointing flipside, like significant roster problems in the game, or the news that we broke last week regarding microtransaction DLC in the game's offline and online dynasty modes. Today comes good news on all fronts: It seems that the NCAA team is listening to the considerable fan feedback that's come as a result of this news and are looking to make some changes.

First up are some fixes and improvements to the TeamBuilder tool which, according to EA, has been used to create more than 80,000 teams so far. The biggest change is the ability to make the background of a created logo transparent, thus removing the white box that have previously surrounded created logos. In addition, you'll also be able to save an image of your created school so you can e-mail it and share it with friends. Other improvements and fixes, straight from the development team:

• Search results will now display 150 schools on the first search and after the next page it will query for the next 150
• Added page titles to the browser so when you go to a specified page the page title will update with the page name (e.g. TeamBuilder Browse Schools)
o When viewing a school it will also update the title with the name of the school
• The browser will now save the history of the pages you go to in the web application so you can now use the back button
• Deep Linking was fixed with this release so you now can bookmark viewed schools for future viewing.
• Fixed a bug with the roster cutting off the last player
• Fixed a bug with my schools link not working when browsing schools
• Fixed a bug introduced with the last drop with not being able to save schools with '&' in the name
• Fixed a crash when a TeamBuilder school could not be found

Take a look below for screens of some of the new fixes. While TeamBuilder improvements are fine, the more significant issues regarding the game's problematic roster issues (such as teams having few, if any, freshman players) as well as the dynasty mode DLC are also being looked at as well. For rosters, the team is exploring an option that would place a corrected roster file on the EA Sports locker system, which users could then download. As for DLC dynasty boosts, the team is currently planning to implement a DLC toggle for dynasty mode, where a dynasty commissioner could choose to enable or disable DLC boosts. According to EA, the scheduled release for both fixes is still being discussed, but we'll be keeping up with any announced patches. Stay tuned.

regardless of how a lot of people are saying this game sucks and they won't buy it. It is still going to be the best college football to date, especially with the new team builder. I have already made an exact replica of my high school football team, now that's pretty sick in my opinion.

(First of all, DKHardee, why does your bird have testicles beneath its beak?)

Can we come together and develop a list of all the "new" features that NCAA football has unleashed upon us since the last-gen Xbox and Playstation?

    Offensive and Defensive hot reads
Home Field Advantage (shaking staduim) Create your own team Create your own playbook
    Ice the Kicker
    Modify schedule
    Superstar
    Hit stick

Please contribute to the list of "new features" which have been added, taken away, and then reintroduced again. (Disclaimer: the features above may or may not be in the current edition of the game.)

    P.S.
Please see Wiktionary.com to refine your grammar on using the following homonyms: to, two, and too.

5."in class" i think that goin to class should be more. in the game it is listed but it gets skipped.they should have little tests nothing to crazy hard but depending on how good you do with increase your gpa and awareness and other features that could benefit on the gridiron.also skipping class can be done but will lower your gpa.
6.'evening activities" this should more of helping your legend score goin out and getting noticed by your classmates and fans.increasing popularity is the main purpose.giving u activities do choose from like pep rallys, eating contests, charity events, anything to raise money for the school and team.
7."becoming a starter" the way to become a starter in this game is a joke its too easy.if your behind a great player and you choose to go there then tough it out by being on the bench.perhaps even wait a full year to play.performing well in practice should help but if your behind a impact player than i say you gotta wait or get lucky by him getting injured.
8."difficulty" i only play on heisman but the game needs to have a little balance sure you wanna make it hard but its dumb when your a RB cant break away cuz your blockers get owned by the computer.esp when your blocker is like a 90 and the guy beating him is like a 80.heisman is a little one sided in campus mode feels like the game is picking on you if your playing offense. sure make it hard but have a little realistic balance.

anyways these are my ideas to really spark up campus mode.

    Things wrong with Campus Mode
1."camera angles" so painful in this mode.the angles need to be under your control for the fact that you are able to look around to see where the CB is cuz i hate throwing a pick because i cant see the defender.Same for defense i cant defend someone i cant see.
2."Lack of practice mode" its a big flaw to have something like practice have no meaning.if you are a starter you pretty much sim the practice i think practice just be involved with your bonuses for the upcoming game depending on how you do in practice.also if you dont perform in practice you should be able to lose your starting job so it keeps you playing hard to keep your spot.
3."high school season" you cant really sum up how good you are by simply playing 4 games.you should play all the games in your senior year including the state playoffs(if you make it) when the season if over depending on how you did the games where that team scouted you they will offer but i think if the team doesnt scout then no offer.
4."picking a school" lets be realistic you cant really have the choice of goin to any school you want.i simply think that having any choice is kinda lame and not really exciting.i think in your state where your from should all scout you and then have random other schools that are looking for replacements or future backups for your position.for example(if you are a QB and play good in your senior year maybe FU or Texas might scout you since there starters are leaving next season)

Its just like EA to add more features to a game when there other features are not perfect or still have things wrong with it.i think that Campus legend has alot of things that need fixing and yet every game they dont make any changes.i think im gonna rent this one first before buying for the simple fact that i know they wasted there time with the stupid idea of create a school and that means they focused all the attention on it and didnt fix anything else.i personally love playing for real existing teams not made up ones i really dont the feature is gonna be popular at all.

DKHARDEE GO CHANTS I graduated CLASS OF 2002. I think that will all the resources that EA SPORTS has they can put all the D1-AA conferences like the Big South, SOCON, MEAC, and the SWAC on the next generation console. EA Sports you are able to put them on the PS2 versions on NCAA Football and Basketball why can't you just apply them to the next generations versions of NCAA Football and Basketball games. By the $60 for a game that EA SPORTS Change from year to year is a little unfair. NBA Live is your cheapest game at $40 dollars on the PS3 and I thnk that all sports games by any manufacter should be in that range. Let me play with my Alma Mater like I would to play with Nebreaska or South Carolina.

haha ya there is that to look forward to, but honestly, the graphics need to be reworked hardcore. The replays look nice, but the in-game graphics are pathetic. Look at gameplay of madden and ncaa 10 online, the physics and authenticity are like black and white. Its incredible. And trust me, this is hard for me to say because I am a HUGE College Football fan, but if I am going to spend 60 bucks on a football SIMULATION, I expect it to be pretty damn close to the real thing. OSU BUCKS= NATIONAL CHAMPS. CTOWN BROWNS=WORLD CHAMPS.............i can dream, leave me alone haha.

  • JDDrummer

    Posted Jun 21, 2009 2:10 pm PT

Lets put it this way. The only reason I loved NCAA games was because I love the Ohio State Buckeyes, and the option and spread offense. But now that this year madden has the wildcat, and I can run it with Josh Cribbs of my beloved Browns, this is no contest. Madden for sure. EA NCAA needs to step it up because this is getting rediculous, love the playbooks, but when you cant execute them in a realistic manner, it ruins the experience. I have to say though, I will miss Kirk Herbstreet announcing the games, but I guess I can settle for Chris Collinsworth. Madden for sure, send a message to the EA developers by NOT buying NCAA 2010. Garbage.

I'm skipping NCAA this year. I played the demo and its just NCAA 09 with a few new tackles and some different camera angles. Gameplay was untouched. I'm not spending $60 on what is essentially an update patch to 09.

Every year I see the same misdirected approach by EA and every year I say the same thing: Strip out all the extras (fluff) if you have to and SPEND SOME TIME focusing and perfecting the ACTUAL GAME play of football. They add all these other side distractions to pad the shortcomings found in basic game play so you'll feel a little better about spending $60. If you don't have good vanilla ice cream, you can't hide the fact by sprinkling random toppings so to speak. I know a lot of loyal fans would like to see more time (i.e. refinements) put into the core of the game at the expense of taming the cloud of mundane activities that surround it. I get the feeling EA judges their progress each year by how much there is to do besides play football and how few bugs they were able to pull it off with. I'm sitting on the sidelines until something admirable happens to this franchise and judging from the past 5+ years that probably won't be the near future. I'll probably be able to copy & paste this comment for the next 5 years .

    Posted Jun 20, 2009 10:05 pm PT

Ea Sports should just sit down and actaully look at this game and compare them to last 5 years. Then you should scrap the 2010 game and getback to the drwaing board and target your due date for August 2010 for retail. .that way you would have a game that would surpass all the last five years of trweaked games. It would save us the players money and it would save your company the humilation.Otherwise you are in for loosing season with the NCAA COLLEGE Football game. $60.00 in tickets for this game . Are there any dealers being closed.....On the biright note; Iam planning on buying either FN4 or NHL 2010.or Madden 2010. I might be able to get 2 out 3.. Anyways My friends will let me know if NCAA college 2010. is worth it. MY Friends in OHIO

I just played the demo, and I am soo pissed. I loved NCAA 09, the online play was amazing i thought. With NCAA 10, for starters, the graphics are TERRIBLE. I am playing it on a 42 inch Samsung 1080i HDTV with a 50,000:1 contrast ratio, and the graphics still look like N64 graphics or PS1, that is unforgivable. Second, the AI is terrible in this game, yes they take wider angles to cutt off the speedsters, but they do not cutback nor do they tackle efficiently. It does not look real, nor is it fun. Third, they have instituted a new throw him down to the ground tackle animation, and that is used about 90% percent of the time, no matter what angle you come in at, i turned the game off when on a punt return, I was about to blow this guy away and WITH THE HITSTICK, he just wrapped him up and threw him to the ground, when in previous versions, he would have taken his head off with the excellent hit stick animations. These upgrades are nice, but overused, and in all the wrong situations. I was looking forward so much to 2010, mostly because I loved 2009 so much, but thank god I played the demo, because now NCAA 2010 is totally off my video game budget, im going back to madden because of all the amazing authenticity they added to the game. I PAYED 400 DOLLARS FOR A NEXT GEN CONSOLE NCAA EA DEVELOPERS, I EXPECT TO BE PAID OFF WITH NEXT GEN GRAPHICS AND GAMEPLAY, NOT THIS GARBAGE. CHANGE YOUR STAFF AND GO BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD, SEE YOU NEXT YEAR.

@costlywar - that's relatively speaking because they will still be haters on Madden 10 when it drops, no matter how good the game may be...

other than those of you that have pointed out the current economic situation, this article is not news......this has been going on since the beginning (of video games) and the only reason it's drawing so much attention is because of the Internet and things like this are being overblown to, for, or by us fans/gamers/etc.......everything else is just "fluff"

so i have a question. Can you still make pipeline states like in the good old days or can you only buy them? It seems to me that you can still do all the stuff that was there before and the DLC is more like a few cheat codes (it is still ridiculous that you have to pay for cheat codes, i mean i would have never had fun/beat mercenaries with out them). So maybe there's a big hoopla over nothing but EA needs to clarify this, otherwise their only customers are going to be the kids that quit out of the game if you score a touchdown.

Dont be fooled by EA Sports.... There holding back again and jackin your $60 Just played the demo on PS3... Great defensive upgrade, but same ol running animations, and I still feel like I have no control over my players... The AI makes all the decisions.... Where is the control on the user catches, quick burst jukes, and hit stick 2.0???? Its time for the gameplay to change, and stop trying to fool people with the anually gimics!!!! " Oh have an idea, lets take things out of the game and then put it back in the game" That way, people will be excited to see it again.... COME ON EA!!!

Is it just me or do the graphics look very "muddy" in HD? It's a weird, soft look; somewhat reminiscent of the way N64 games used to look. I don't like it. As far as all the other stuff, I think EA is going to disapoint a lot of fans this year. I think there will be too big of a discrepency between good and poor teams, making all the "play your school" stuff a waste of time online. Who wants to place bets on how many games it will take for me to get my Hoosiers a win online?

  • ohjtbehaaave

    Posted Jun 19, 2009 6:44 pm PT

First of all... for EA to charge money for more "Pipeline States" in recruiting mode is ridiculous! I'm so tired of seeing gameplay from previous versions being 'Held back' and being charged for now. Just look at how EA held back golf courses in Tiger 10 on 360 and PS3 so they could charge you for them. $60 isn't enough to get the 27 courses the Wii version got? There's only 16 courses on the 360/PS3 version of TW10. BS!!!

As far as NCAA FB 10 goes... the only feature that was a nice addition imo was the ability to play defense from a set position and from that players perspective. It's fun trying to rush the passer etc... But with that said... this game is no way worth another $60. To me... NHL, Tiger (and even Madden) not only play good... but look like Next Gen sports games. NCAA FB still looks 'Last Gen' to me. STEP IT UP EA!

I'm very torn because I love College Football... but there's no way I can bring myself to paying $60 bucks for this game. There's just to many other good games to spend it on like FN4, inFAMOUS and Madden10 in a few months... plus money is tight right now with the economy sucking. So you have to choose carefully where you spend your gaming dollars. NCAA FB10 is now totally off my radar.

Or are they talking about bugs in last years game being fixed for this years game? Either way, this game DEFINITELY does not sound like it should be $60! EA just nickel's and dime's players to death! Ah, Ok. Lets all go and check out Madden 2010. At least they seem to have upgraded the details . If people think spending another $60, on a game that vitrually is so similar from last year then (A).you did not buy/play last year's game. Or (B) you need an MRI done. or (c)you have not been educated by gamespots updates, I think I'm going to ignore NCAA College 2010. I'll read about it after people has played for 2 days and the excitement has worn and will wish they had thier money back when its too late. Good luck to all of you who are just loyal to NCAA College Football games. EASports should send tickets to the game of your choice. For producing a college football game that is about 2years lagging
in qualty. So their is my 2 cents........Madden 2010 might be woth getting afterall.

    @DKHardee

I'm glad you enjoy Teambuilder and the game itself, but I remember the days when you could make a team right on the disc. Teambuilder is not revolutionary IMO, and I personally do not think it's worth $60 just so I can make a team, which is something i was able to do last-gen. If you want the game, go ahead, it's your money, and the last thing i want to do is to tell you how to spend it. I just think that the ability to create a team is not enough to warrant $60. And the new recruiting system doesn't really look all that much different to me. I know they made plenty of changes to it, but it doesn't look like it will sway my decision. I agree, 09 was not a bad game, but i don't want to pay $60 for a small, tiny, little update of the game. Sorry for this wall of text BTW.

  • AtlfMV7

    Posted Jun 18, 2009 8:49 pm PT

God, DLC is the worst thing ever. Why can't they stop taking out aspects of the game that use to come on the disc and charging rediculous amounts of money for it. I really hope EA gets called for monopolizing with their sports games, because 2k sports did a much better job with their football games imo.

  • DKHardee

    Posted Jun 18, 2009 7:59 pm PT

I think teambuilder in it self and the fact that you can customize the uniforms is worth getting the new game. Plus Dynasty has the new recruiting system. Look 09 wasn't a bad game, im playing the NCAA 10 demo now. Yes I agree, not much onfield stuff has changed (except for a twisting chokeslam takle that seems to be on every play) but I think its an improvement over 09.

    @ohjtbehaaave

I have the demo keyed up on my PS3 download list. Is it even worth my time then? I do have 09, and from the looks of it, 10 looks the same. So they do both play the same, huh. Alright, looks like i'm not getting the game then. Especially with these rosters being off. What the heck is that about?

  • ohjtbehaaave

    Posted Jun 18, 2009 6:53 pm PT

I'm sure many will love this TeamBuilder stuff.... but i played the demo that's on XBL and I wasn't impressed with the gameplay. I don't think you can tell the difference between NCAA FB 08 and NCAA FB 10 when it comes to on the field activities. Same boring announcing carried over... same Cheerleader shots... and basically the same animations on the field... surrounded by the ugly looking crowd in the stadium. At least Madden coming off last years improved game is still trying to add new gameplay innovations ON THE FIELD! NCAA FB 10 looks and plays like a total minor update/reheat with the added Team builder stuff. If you still own NCAA FB 09... I'd keep it and save the $60 bucks. This College FB game is now stale and stuck in the mud on the field. Throw in the DLC scam you have to pay for and it's total FAIL! PASS

  • slycooper21

    Posted Jun 18, 2009 6:46 pm PT

Ok, that's good that you can disable it, but here's a thought, let's actually put it in the game without making our customers pay for it! No, no, that'll never work. Pssh.

EA is seriously disappointing me with this DLC crap. I think this will be the first year since 04 that i won't be buying a college football game from EA Sports.
