Hot on the heels of the details about UFC 2009 Undisputed's upcoming patch comes news about EA Sports prepping some downloadable content for its fighting game, Fight Night Round 4. Two DLC packs are planned so far--both free--that will add some new content and address some fan concerns about the game, particularly in terms of control.

The first DLC, due in early August, will add a new training gym, tunable gameplay sliders and new equipment for your boxer. According to a Kotaku article, the gameplay sliders will cover three gameplay areas: Counter Punch Window, Boxer Stamina, and Punch Accuracy. The Xbox 360 version will include an exclusive alternate version of Sugar Ray Leonard as well.

The second DLC, due in early September, will let players use face buttons to throw punches, a feature that a vocal minority of Fight Night fans have been in an uproar about for seemingly months. In the press release, FN 4 senior producer Dean Richards had this say, "We strongly believe that the refined Total Punch Control is the most intuitive way to throw punches in Fight Night Round 4, but we also want fans of the franchise to have an option."

Translation: "Here you go, you big whiny babies."

While I'm personally not interested in button-punch controls, it's nice that EA is giving fans the option to play how they want. And for free to boot.

    For all you have downloaded a demo and say its no good omg serious this game is great, a few points which are bad but so much fun i think its a must have for ps3 or 360

    the total punch control is an intuitive and fun way of playing the game, I can't see why people are whingin about it?! whats next? ollie, kickflip, grab and grind buttons for skate two......gimmie a break lol

    downloaded the demo and played it, what a crappy game.
    I wouldn't spend a dollar for this game.

    As great as this sounds, i'd much rather EA actually just concentrated on releasing a patch to fix the games MANY, MANY bugs....its really f'ing annoying to spend £40 on a game, and not actually be able to fully play it! Legacy is buggy as hell, freezing often, and in some case actually rendering itself totally unplayable!

    So, as much as this DLC would be ace, no point in adding extra features to a broken game! fix it first please!

    anyone who needs to use buttons to fight either cant fight or dont want to try to use it correctly. and whiny babies is a perfect description to anyone complaining about the analog controls. sob, sob, i cant throw fast combos, i dont like the joystick, sob, sob. there are a ton of games where you have to use both analogs. ITS CALLED PRACTICE. I got an idea everyone give up on any challenges and do everything simple in life, anyone who complained about the configs of this game probably has a losing record. stick to pong crybabies.

    using the analog sticks is not the most "intuitive" way to play fight night, it's the slowest, you cant throw real combinations using the analogs, otherwise they would be slow combos, and also they said that they wouldnt take out any controls from the game instead they would add, so the whole "whinny babies" theme is unnecessary.

    Not sure what you guys mean by "body spammers", and "mashers". I am aware of a block, and a weave. Why doesn't this negate the above a la rope-a-dope and just knock your opponent out when he has no stamina.
    If EA haven't allowed for this, then the game is pants. (I've only just got it so am rubbish, but hope that after putting in the hours, the laws/strategy/tactics of boxing will apply.

If ur good enuf, it shouldnt matter what config your opponent uses, you'll dominate (or at least be able to "fight your fight") anyway. That aside, im MUCH more excited about SLIDERS. I was soo turned off by the E3 presentation and the Xbox demo by the rock-em-sock-em gameplay. now that there are sliders for stamina, i can finally get the game (against its own will, sadly) to play with some semblance of realism.

    Verdict: Ill now rent it, d/l the dlc, and if i don't get tired of it in a week...then MIGHT buy it.

    P.S. now all i need is play creation and 10>foot alleyoop passing in my NBA 2k10 and ill be happy

    whatever you suck! button masher need to go play something else.....boxing is akward for left handers so there. It's more real......now you gonna have people winning who should not win......button you need to have more risk for those who just swing away all silly cuz they can win in the early rounds before it starts to hurt their stamina too much and that should tire a boxer out faster.

    the reason they are adding button control is because the previous versions of the game also had button control. It also makes sense because some of the actual stick controls are very akward like when you try to throw uppercuts. I personally agree, they should have used a combination of button and stick control, with each button respresenting a different type of punch and the stick direction the aim where you want the punch to land and which hand you want to throw it with. Mainly because the current stick control is a lil akward when you switch from right to left handed boxers.

    i just dont understand why would they mess up a good game. this game is all about skill and eye cordnation. Putting buttons will eliminate all of that for u button mashers out there i swear people are going to be having outragous records for an example 1000 right AND! 1000 left hand jabs not counting the sweat haymakers lol

    EA is well aware that many people stopped playing this game that has no option buttons and many people like me who are not accustomed to the joystick.

    if you are the better with the joystick which is the problem that the others play with the buttons? In my case I was too accustomed to the buttons and I do not like the joystick that is all.

    There should be an easy enough fix for online, with the people worrying about button mashing. They can have it as an option to create a match, or a search for analog control fight only.

    Wow, just wow. EA is dishing out free DLC, probably from listening to fan criticism, and yet people are still saying that EA is doing jack for their consumers. >_>
    I say that's uncalled for. But as they say that's just my opinion. Seriously though, FREE DLC.

    They are doing jack, their adding a feature that isnt needed, if you cant throw a combo with the analog then face the facts, you suck

    I agree. If these guys need buttons so bad don kings prize fighter can probably be found in the bargain bin at this point. why do they have to screw up fight night

    Yeah im sure ea didnt ask floyd and he said no. c'mon like its their faults that mayweather is a greedy a hole

    very very good news i guess i will be buying this game early september then cause im not playing this game with the joystick to throw puches lets say tekken6 did the same thing how many people would complain and ask for a DLC

    TOTAL PUNCH CONTROL SUCKK!! I can not throw a good and decent combination. People play with the same beat all the time and the game is look stupid. EA the worst thing they have done is not to have the option of pulling punches with the buttonsin this game . I've always been a fan of all franchise and this disappoints me greatly, and neither is playing well and there are many players who think like me. Without the buttons this game SUCK...

    It's about time more precision on what punch your throwing with the button mashing in my eyes. You put Iron Mike in the game and then change things around. Don't tweak the good stuff and replace with bad judgement. New patch will help out alot.

    the buttons are not an issue. what i find lacking is the depth of managing your career like trainer choice and gym choice which EA had in the previous fight nights or knockout kings. having these choice should have an effect on your improvements or lack there of. add weight management and nutrition will really make it a challege.

    Yeah id agree with the translation "Big WHINY BABEIS." I hate button mashers i mean i learnt how to beat the body spammers i recently beat the 46th ranked person last night absolutley tanked him he didnt know what to do when i started boxing him not going all out in a fight just jab and move wore him down and KO'ed him in the 8th.

    i found fight night round 4 to be a 'A class' game like all games it has its ups and downs, thast why i hope they use dlc to improve on the downs such as better training in legacy mode, custom made gloves( e.g. being able to put pictures and words on your gloves), more interactive stuff to feel like your in touch with your boxer( e.g. boost popularity by arranging events such as photo signing, charity events, go to local school etc.). i thought legacy mode was very limited, if they can improve on such stuff as these i think we might have an award winning game on our hands. FIGHT NIGHT ROUND 4- 8.0

    why is everyone whining about legacy mode, i found it very fun and easy. I got to GOAT with my created character with only 4 loses (played on champ difficulty). the stick control is way better, buttons arnt gonna take any skills. they should add more music and maybe a new mode with more belts online

    i love fight night round 4, i just hate legacy. if they can balance the a.i. vs. human stats then we're good. and yes, more boxers would be great.

    Noo not button-punches, where's the skill in that. Agree with mrbrown63 I want boxers but new gears sounds good, more songs(!?) would be nice and basically more things for me to customise my GOAT boxer lol.
