We've tallied your votes from a poll we had on our front page several weeks ago, asking you whichheroes and villains you'd like to see on the battlefield.We have paired up 10 of your favorite Final Fantasy characters so that each week, we'll release new gameplay footage. You'll want to keep your eyes out for these epic showdowns.

Our first contestants: Terra and Ultimecia. This isn't going to pretty, but if you want to see how the fight ends, check out the video of the two lovely ladies locked in combat.

Terra Branford

One of the main protagonists of Final Fantasy VI, Terra is blessed--or cursed--with incredible powers. Captured by Emperor Gestahl as a child and raised as a living weapon while in a constant state of mind control, Terra possesses an innate affinity for magic and has the ability to shift into an Esper form to temporarily increase her powers. After awakening from a long slumber, Terra has been summoned by Cosmos to retrieve a crystal that might help bring back her lost memories.

Ultimecia

A powerful sorceress from the future of Final Fantasy VIII, Ultimecia reached far into the past to manipulate events and cause a phenomena she called "time compression" to prevent her own death at the hands of a legendary SeeD. She possesses near-unlimited power, including the ability to junction people and manifest life from subconscious thought. Summoned by Chaos to fight against Cosmos, Ultimecia stands opposed to Squall Leonhart.

    I played the Japanese version and it is better than everything before. I love Playing as Kefka and Jecht, but the Onion Knight is awesome too! EVERY fan should get it. You won´t waste your money and that´s good to hear? ^^
    But not fans should get it too. It will take a long time to get every weapon and so on. Check it out!
    If you need help and so on you can ask me.

    What the hell? Dissidia? Wait Disney--->Dissidia. Are they the same? What is disney in here? Did Disney even approve? I have no idea. This game is good but the fact that it sounds like Disney and I don't get why old classic toons are in a fighting game or how any of this is related to Disney. Might be a good game but the fact that it has Disney sort of in the title is kinda confusing me.

    The only thing that i don't like of FF8 (it's more easy to read with numbers) it's the fact that the more you train the worst you'll get at the end...and it's too much of attractive to "Train" ¡¡you grow levels each 1000 of exp!! and bang your dead because enemys grow levels with you and much faster...

    I think my previous comment may have been misread (not that i didn't expect to get thumbs downed for it anyway). I meant in Dissidia the characters from VII and VIII aren't very good. that is of course, my own personal opinion, I don't like how they play. Cloud is too slow, Sephiroth and Squall have very small hitboxes on their HP attacks, and as you might notice in the video above, Ultimecia's attacks are hard to hit with unless you have a good bit of practice.

    I have to agree with a couple others here, all of the Final Fantasy games are great, I've played 1,4,6-12(excluding 11) they are very well written, with the few translation errors aside. Stories are compelling, characters are engaging, musical scores are some of the best in the industry and personally my favorite is FF7 because it got me into RPG's and made me realize there is more to a game then mindless jumping & shooting. Extremely close are 6,8 & 10 because they had that compelling story telling that 7 had the first time I played it. Just because you prefer one over the other doesn't mean the rest of them have to "suck". The FF series are my favorite RPG's, I hope they continue to be great.

    I personally like VIII the most. I really loved the story, and i disagree with Squall & Rinoa being the worst couple ever, in fact i think they are one of the best. I don´t know why this rivalry between VII and VIII exists, both are great games, and if any of them carried the FF title no one will hate either.

    I have to agree with tunderball. I once heard someone say that for the most part, people can only like 2 of the PSOne FF games (VII, VIII, and IX). I'm one of the rare VIII and IX ones. not that VII is BAD, its just very highly overrated.

    however, I also have to say, having played the Japanese version, the VII and VIII characters suck. the villains aren't completely awful... but Cloud is probably the worst character in the game, and Squall isn't too far ahead of him.

    FF8 is amazing, I guess its like marmite you either love it or hate it and your entitled to your own opinions but I think that it rivals 7 for its inovation. I even like most of the characters Squall is one of my favourite FF characters ever I know he's annoying at times and the things he says are dumb but he grows on you by the end and I think thats what FF8 is all about it starts out completley different from what your used to but by the end you love everything about it............except Selphie man she sucks!

  • Misfit1119

    Posted Jul 22, 2009 8:49 am PT

    FF8 is a piece of garbage pure and simple. The characters act like a bunch of brain dead zombies, doing the dumbest things you could think (let's have a trained teacher abandon her post to APOLOGIZE to someone for an imagined slight), the storyline meanders around before going basically nowhere, the plot is boring, Squall and Rinoa are probably the worst FF couple of all time and the only thing making the game worth playing was the unique magic system. Which can be very easily, and accidentally, exploited to make your characters superhumanly impossible to kill.

    Yeah, great times. FF 1-7 & 9-10 for life yo! 8 and 11 never happened!

    @volrath_86: FFVII's not my favorite, but it's beyond amazing.

    @dragonhuman40: I agree, FFVIII isn't that special.

    I love how people people cast aside FF8 like it doesn't even deserve the FF name. Thinking about it now, it really doesn't. It's completely different from everything else- not just FF. So I can understand how fans of the older games wouldn't like it. I think more people should give this game a second chance. It has a great cast, story, and script, great gameplay, tons of secrets, side-quests, and replayability, the list goes on. Have an open mind and play this- not as another FF, but as an original RPG. BTW, I happen to like FF7 and onward (played all except 11). Haven't played the older ones 'cause I don't like the battle animations at all. Why couldn't they make the characters actually go up and make contact with enemies to hit them??? (They did it with Chrono Trigger... sweet game btw). Guess I'm used to newer RPGs- hypocritical, I know. And I'm sure they're great games. Do yourself a favor though. Try something new. Because I can guarantee that there is no other game like FF8.

    @Platyphyllum
    @IceDefenseGod
    and anyone else who is fighting for it´s favourite game...

    now i´ll wanna know which you think it´s the worst story and the worst gameplay...

    as for myself y think XII has the worst story ever, even FFI is better lol, no really the gameplay is great, i really liked it, but you keep waiting for the impressive videos we saw on VIII, IX and X; they tried to make the story too political, too ploty, but you keep waiting the turnarround on the plot... like aerith death, like laguna - squall time plot, zidane´s twin, jecht - sin. Well, that was my opinion, i´d like to know yours

    Bostonredsox481 - PSP multiplayer generally works via wifi when 2 people are near eachother and connect wirelessly. There are ways to make multiplay work online across the globe aswell but as far as dissidia is concerned I believe it's wireless within range.

    @Platyphyllum

    I have to agree with you there about FFVI and FFVII.

    FFVI was such a deep and emotional story, especially the Celes island scene. I would love a remake (not a sequel though) with modern technology. Earlier FFs were more like "lets save the crystals" etc, but when FFVI came out, it really was a great milestone for Final Fantasy.

    Wow this looks like garbage. I know a lot of people are still going to get this but I don't really know why. I personally thought "Crisis Core" was the biggest piece of garbage to come from Square since "The Bouncer" or "SaGa Frontier 2".

    Major coolness~! I would've put my money on Ultimecia... but I guess the good guys always win, right...? It's awesome to see Final Fantasy characters revived from their nearly forgotten games. This kinda makes me want to keep that Crisis Core PSP I'm selling on eBay, but alas, money & survival are more important than the precious video games...
