Mario voice actor confirms 'new game'

Charles Martinet says his latest gig involves voicing Nintendo's mustachioed plumber for a title that isn't New Super Mario Bros. Wii or Super Mario Galaxy 2.

Nintendo has been keeping Charles Martinet busy of late. The man better known as the voice of iconic red-garbed Mario will be lending his expressive Italian voice to New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Super Mario Galaxy 2 for Nintendo's console, and he is just coming off of an appearance in the acclaimed Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story for the DS.

Considering the rate at which Nintendo returns to its popular plumber, it probably won't surprise many to know that Nintendo apparently has Mario penciled in for yet one more project. In a series of posts to this personal Twitter account last week, Martinet teased a new game starring Mario, one that isn't among the three announced for North America during the publisher's 2009 Electronic Entertainment Expo presence.

"Mama Mia!!!! I'm going to Seattle this week to record a new Mario game! Woo Hooo!!!!! I can hardly wait!!!!1" Martinet wrote on his Twitter account last week. Following the recording session, Martinet went on to say in an equally excited manner, "Awesome new Mario Game! And it's not NSMB Wii, and it's not Galaxy 2, but it's going to be crazy fun!"

[UPDATE] Whatever it is that Martinet is working on, the publisher isn't yet ready to talk about it. "We're always working on new games and experiences, but we have nothing to announce at this time," a Nintendo representative told GameSpot.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Super Mario Galaxy 2 are due to arrive for Nintendo's console November 15 and the second quarter of next year, respectively. Nintendo hasn't to date announced any other games starring the mustachioed plumber as coming to the US.

It's probably a spin-off game like Mario Party or some sports game.

It will probabbly be Paper Mario so I won't buy it(maybe not even rent it!) UNLESS its not a turn-based RPG of course

If it was a Paper Mario (which I would have really liked) then there would be no need for voice acting. It can't be a SMS2, because we are already getting a SMG2. And it's not a Luigi's Mansion sequal, either, because Nintendo just can't be working on it (too many 3D Mario games). By process of elimination, it has to be Mario Party 9. Normally, I would cry, but it won't be bad with Wii Motion Plus!

No more Mario Party games! 8 is better than 7 and 6 but I think 9 is a mistake. I kind of want another Paper Mario.

Super Luigi World lol!I'm not waiting for MP9 unless it's like MP7/MP2/MP8 combined because that would make the MP series perfect!Though I doubt it
and will just wait for MP2 to hit Virtual Console...

I think the Twitter comments were removed. I just checked the page and there's nothing at all about this game.
Mario Party 9 is the most likely, I would absolutely LOVE it if it were Luigi's Mansion 2 though.

As someone who, at this point despises Mario, I would absolutely LOVE to see Nintendo finally branch out and just make something new. Something you just wouldn't expect out of mario. Something that actually offers gameplay no Mario game has.
And no, I'm not suggesting a Mario FPS or something. Just a game that breaks the "Mario mold" and actually feels like a new game.

I would like a game where you play as Luigi as the main character, but hopefully, it's a platformer, not like Luigi's Mansion.

The world needs a T-Rated Mario Game to be honest. Something along the lines of Mario 64 but with a target at the 13+ audience. They need to evolve the character and even the franchise in general. A vast majority of the people who follow mario are older now and the new crowd of kids couldnt care less.

Another Mario game? I loved them a lot more as a child, but Nintendo is spending too much time worrying about Mario! What about Zelda, Kirby, and Pikmin?

  • InsertWittyID

    @Nc23Nick

Yes! I thought I was the only person on earth who liked Sunshine. I'll admit it wasn't perfect, but it still did a lot of interesting things that made it a solid game. I think it would be well suited for a spin-off series separate from the main games!

    Mario GTA anyone???

  • AngelCage-2

    Posted Oct 20, 2009 11:14 am GMT

o_o Pay him again to say AGAIN the same thing he said on a game before and before and before and before this one???

Or nintendo really like to waste money, or they don't backup any game data after release... they should have already all the zillions of voice lines of Mario recorded from this guy...

    Talk about easy work.

  • necronaux

How much doeas he have to pay them? I smell another Mario movie around the corner...
