When SOCOM: Confrontation first debuted a year ago this week, it was beset by technical problems, such that the game required patching to address laggy network play, system crashes, and broken clan, ranking, and stat-tracking functions. Now the game is in line for another update, albeit one focused more on adding to the game rather than fixing it.
Sony today announced SOCOM: Confrontation Cold Front, the first downloadable content pack for the multiplayer-only tactical shooter. However, the company didn't give the add-on a release window, saying only that new information on it would be available shortly.
When it debuts on the PlayStation Network, the $14.99 Cold Front pack will include a Russian and Eastern European area of operation, complete with snow effects and the appropriate gear (like a thermal scope) and camouflage. Players will also get five new maps (three of them revamped levels from previous SOCOM games), new music, a new character progression system with primary and secondary specializations, new and enhanced weapons and weapon attachments, and new trophies to earn.
Created by Slant Six after series creator Zipper Interactive was given command of MAG, SOCOM: Confrontation was sold in stores bundled with a Bluetooth headset at the standard new release price of $60, or as a downloadable PlayStation Network game for $40.
