When SOCOM: Confrontation first debuted a year ago this week, it was beset by technical problems, such that the game required patching to address laggy network play, system crashes, and broken clan, ranking, and stat-tracking functions. Now the game is in line for another update, albeit one focused more on adding to the game rather than fixing it.

Sony today announced SOCOM: Confrontation Cold Front, the first downloadable content pack for the multiplayer-only tactical shooter. However, the company didn't give the add-on a release window, saying only that new information on it would be available shortly.

When it debuts on the PlayStation Network, the $14.99 Cold Front pack will include a Russian and Eastern European area of operation, complete with snow effects and the appropriate gear (like a thermal scope) and camouflage. Players will also get five new maps (three of them revamped levels from previous SOCOM games), new music, a new character progression system with primary and secondary specializations, new and enhanced weapons and weapon attachments, and new trophies to earn.

Created by Slant Six after series creator Zipper Interactive was given command of MAG, SOCOM: Confrontation was sold in stores bundled with a Bluetooth headset at the standard new release price of $60, or as a downloadable PlayStation Network game for $40. PEOPLE the game is not 'broken' now. I've had it since launch. I am starting to think that you 'true' hardcore socom fans have been playing to much Cod4 and just flat out suck at socom confrontation. Why so much hate for this DLC why it's not even out yet..

Finally, it's about time. Thrilled to hear about this, always wished it would be done but never till now even knew it was being made at all.

It would have been nice to have LAN capabilities for everyone stuck back at the base, after real missions.

"Yes, we know our game is broken. But with this map-pack we should have included a long time ago will be available for yer hard earned money! Fix it? HA! Just pretend everything ****y about our game isn't there."

Confrontation is so full of fail it could pass for Bushs terms in office.

I loved the original socom games so i was really hyped for this but all i got on launch was a laggy broken mess of a game where most gunfights were basically two guys dancing around eachother until the other one drops, and while the patch did fix a lot of problems all i realised then is that its just a bland and rather lifeless third person shooter, but hey a lot of people stuck with that and i admire that, but even all there fans dedication they have the audacity to charge $14 for a bunch of old socom maps after all the comunity has had to put up with, it should be a gift to the fans like the free map pack for vegas 2, sorry but with greed like this i sinserly hope the company goes bust.

SgtD, why would thinking they are doing a good job make someone a hater. Isn't the hater the one thinking they are NOT, like you? Also, what does that have to do with voting for Obama. If you are trying to say they are stupid, voting for Obama once certainly is not as stupid as voting for Bush twice, especially that second time.

The game was a crapfest at release and I was as mad as the next guy, but it's 100 times better now. People that are still having SERIOUS issues now, mostly have their connections to blame. You want to see a game in serious shambles, get NBA 2K10.

Ok, for all you people on the fence or thinking about getting this game or this DLC. Here is the scoop. It's not Socom 2 revamped, it's a completely different game with new maps and a revamped game engine, the only reason the remade Socom 2 maps are in there is because people BEGGED for them. The servers have gotten much better, I have no problems 99% of the time. The big Update that added tournaments and ladders is great. I like the ranking system and if you have a good connection you can play all the time without much issue. It's THE best shooter bar none! Though, MAG is looking pretty nice (I'm in the beta). It's a definite buy at $39.99 in the PSN store! I also reccommend the headset, best Bluetooth Headset for PS3 on the market (and I work for the Bluetooth SIG and have tested ALOT of headsets).

    Things to know:
It's not COD, most game modes are NOT respawn (though you can make or join respawn rooms if you want). You will no doubt be playing with experienced Socom players in most rooms and your life expectancy will be very short till you figure out not to "Run and Gun", despite peole calling you a camper. It's a TACTICAL shooter, play smart. Unless you are the last guys alive because all the other idiots ran out there guns ablazin', then if you play tactical you are likely to get voted out. This brings me too my next point, play with people that you know or that seem to be pretty cool.

Game has improved over time, but gameplay issues and maps(only say maps, cause the game released with so few.) should still be addressed before new factions, weapons, camo......means nothing if the game doesnt function properly. Should not take more than a year to correct a game via patches and updates. Your right, no game is perfect.....but there are to many minor issues that should have been and should be addressed sooner. Sony and Slant6 should have reconsidered the release until the game was prepared for release. To many problems for a game this popular to be slung through the mud, released and not expect any backlash from fans of the game that have been playing it for YEARS. All you haters that think they are doing a good job (or from someone who does not know anything about the series)....probably voted for Obama too. When you have features from previous games(PS2 versions) that are not even in the next-gen game.....theres problems. Damages the SOCOM name and future titles. Good news is .....I'm an individual and have choice.......intend to use it.

Is that the new thing gamers are saying now when they don't like a game? It's "broken"? Makes it sound like they are absolving themselves of paying for a game they didn't like. "Yeah, it's THE DEVELOPERS FAULT I don't like this game! They didn't make it right!".

Given the amount of BS the SOCOM community had to put up with for this game, this DLC should be free.

It's a shame that so many people are blinded by what the reviews say. I was totally pissed that everything was broken for half a year after the game's launch but they got it together. It's still the best tactical shooter you can play on consoles, despite the rough launch, but unfortunately the reviews don't point to that. If you like good, balanced, team-based games where you can't run-n-gun or have ridiculous regenerating health, but you get rewarded for playing strategically and using your brain, by all means, pick this game up. And on a side note, the game is still mad popular. There are definitely lots of people playing it all the time, from all over the world.

I bought the game at launch and liked it, didnt get to play too too much of it though at the time but kept it since so many other games that were good came out at the same time. But I still pick it up and shoot some people from time to time Hopefully the content will be good, may pick it up just because

I just bought socom and I was very disappointed. The game didn't have much work done to it besides vamping up in hd and adding a few objects to the old socom 2 maps. The motion controls are pointless. I was hoping it would be alot better than socom 2 but it turns out its the exact same game. At least it didn't play out like socom 3. Thanks for that.

I've looked at this a few times, but the terrible ratings keep me from buying it. It's a pity, SOCOM is a great franchise. The ratings have been pretty consistent, so even those sites that wanted to like it, couldn't. This is an example of what happens when a developer pushes something to release too early.

Buy it on day one, it's $10 wait and it will still be worth $15 for those who wait. For those that download it will they get more than 15 hours out of the new maps? I know I will. Any game that breaks down to less than a dollar per hour is a good deal to me. Plus Night Stalker was/is the best map ever.

im gonna buy it. Hopefully the new music and voiceovers will be more like SOCOM 1,2. I havent played this game in about a month but im actually excited for this. Hopefully the release more DLC in the future. And i didnt know $15 was a lot of money? too much for mommy to give you?
