Black Wii Remote, Nunchuk hit US Nov. 16

North American gamers who have grown weary of the Wii's white-hued hardware will soon have another option--at least as far as the console's controllers are concerned.

Starting on November 16, Nintendo of America will begin selling a black Wii Remote bundled with a Wii MotionPlus attachment. The $49.99 package will also include a matte-black silicone sleeve for the unit, unlike the translucent clear sleeves currently packed in with the Wii, Wii Remote, Wii MotionPlus, and the best-selling Wii Play, which includes a Wii Remote.

Despite early console mock-ups, Nintendo still sees the Wii in white and black (in Japan, anyway).

To match the Wii Remote, Nintendo is also releasing a $19.99 black Nunchuk attachment. It is not, however, releasing a black version of the Wii itself, which was reduced to $199 last month in the US. On August 1, the Japanese market got a black Wii model, although Nintendo has announced no plans to release it in Europe or North America.

Ironically, it was a black-finish Wii--then called the "Revolution"--that Nintendo first unveiled at the 2005 Electronic Entertainment Expo. At the same time, the company released concept art of red, silver, black, white, and lime-green consoles (pictured), although only the white and black have seen production.

When asked for comment, all a Nintendo rep would say is, "We have nothing to announce about the availability of the black Wii console outside of Japan at this time."

    i dont see why we would need glow in the dark for 2 reasons:
    1: you are SUPPOSED to play video games in a lit room
    2:why would you want to see it when your supposed to be playing the game

    The only valid point would be it would look awesome and you can see it in the dark (obviously)

    I wouldn't mind picking up a black Wii, that would be sweet. Kinda reminds me of when the Japanese had the Spice Orange Gamecubes, and all we had were that Black and Indigo(purple). Don't get me wrong, I loved my black GCN, but I would have liked to have a spice orange.

    Is it really so expensive to manufacture different-colored outer casings? All of those colors displayed in the caption image and more should have been available worldwide from the outset.

    That said, I'd love a black Wiimote and Nunchuk. But since I already have four Wiimotes, I won't be likely getting another one any time soon.

    And why must every article that even mentions Wii have to turn into everyone's rant box to state how glad they are that they sold their Wiis or that Nintendo is "going downhill"...? If you hate Nintendo and the Wii so much then why do you care to comment? Because you want everyone to agree with you? Well that's not going to happen. Lots of people out there (including myself) love their Wiis and fully support Nintendo, and internet comments aren't going to change that.

    Even if they released the Wii in all those colors, I think black and white are the only ones that would sell well. Whenever I have a choice of colors, I always go with one of those two because I know if buy some fancy color I'll get tired of it after a while.

    It is annoying that they aren't offering the Wii in more colors. They should have done that from day one, Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony should. You can't tell me it's that hard. It's complete BS. And anyone who says Nintendo has gone downhill is not hardcore, or anywhere near it. Sorry but the DS is the best selling piece of game hardware ever, and the game library for it is the most hardcore you'll find on planet Earth, only moderately rivaled by the PS2. Yeah the Wii might only have great 1st party games, but they are the most fun and thought provoking you'll have on anything current. I haven't played my Wii since Galaxy and Corruption, but I would seriously have missed out on a great life experience without playing them...

    I love my Wii so I dont know what all you wii-haters are complaining about..What just cause you cant play a game where you steal cars or kill other people? get a life...Theres tone of good games for the wii. I own lots of wii games and they all got at least 8-10 rating here on gamespot and other websites. Nintendo is not going downhill....however societies morality when it comes to movies and games is....remember a game is not supposed to be like real life...its supposed to be fun...duh.....Anyway, do I hear any votes for a blue console and remote?^^

    I choose wii any day over a 360 or ps3.

    aaronfilmltd, i totally agree!! nintendo has gone downhill. really fast. i wish it were as great as it was...but i may have to turn to other consoles. wii just isnt cutting it.

    chrono_wind, the Wii is supposed to be the most durable system, if yours dies then your PS3 will likely die faster. aaronfilmltd, the Wii HD is rumored for 2011 as a full-fledged system. Ogelthorpe, there are many good games coming out this year for the Wii, not just black remotes. You hardcore gamers even have your dead space extract thing as well as Mario & Sonic for me and New Super Mario Bros. Wii for both groups. Anyway, it says it comes with Wii Motion Plus, that would be a bundle pack if I'm correct?

    That's it? Seriously? Where's the Wii HD announcement? Where's an awesome software update? Where's the upgradeable hard disk space?

    Nintendo, what happened to you? You used to be the smartest and most user-friendly gaming company. You used to find a way to make games accessible while at the same time appealing to the hardcore gamer. You used to be at the cutting edge of gaming technology, and now, after your fans clamor for a new hardware model or more hard drive space, you respond with a different colored controller?

    I'm quite satisfied that I sold my Wii a few weeks ago. Honestly, if Nintendo can't maintain their balance anymore while the Xbox and PS3 overtake it in games, controls, and accessiblilty, they're going to get crushed. It makes me sad to see the company I grew up with go to waste.

    Nintendo DOES make great games, it's just the amount of horrible games made by other publishers that make the system the way it is. However, I sure am happy with the amount of games I got to relive on a console from the virtual console service, let alone some good memories with some cult classic type games.

    really with everyone already owning their wii, and many buying things like gamergrafix i am sure this is not heart break that the black wii isnt here yet. I am excited for the remote and nunchuk though, finally i can remember who's motes who's when i go over to my buddies.

    Only Sony seems to bother with the colour choices, I think its a good thing myself, it's always better to have a choice. Probably Nintendo just being cheap again, what plans do they have for all the money they have raked in from the Wii and DS...as I don't see them giving much back to us, in terms of cheaper hardware, cheaper games etc
