Red/black 360 controller coming Oct. 15 - Retail Radar

GameStop-exclusive gamepad for Microsoft's console to include Play & Charge Kit, $70 price tag.

Aside from the standard-issue black-and-white models, the Xbox 360's controller has seen several limited-release colors and skins over the past three years. Now, it appears as if one more will soon be coming to market, as a listing in GameStop's online database indicates Microsoft is prepping a mottled red and black controller will be available October 15.

The Xbox 360's red/black wireless gamepad will apparently be a GameStop-exclusive and retail for $69.99. At cause for the mark-up over standard-issue $50 wireless controllers is the inclusion of a black Play & Charge Kit, which is otherwise available for $20. Microsoft has yet to officially announce the controller and has not returned requests for comment as of press time.

The black and red model is the latest hue of official stand-alone Xbox 360 controllers, which have also been offered in red, green, blue, and pink. Microsoft also released controllers with custom graphics for Halo 3 and is currently offering a green controller with Halo 3: ODST graphics, as well as assorted other colors through various promotions.

Looks alright, but i'm just going to get the black or white controllers if I get a Holiday bundle (the one with the 4 arcade games.)

a black one with a Radioactive symbol in yellow would be sweet too. I'd use it to play Fallout 3 all the time!

It doesn't look bad, but it's more expensive and plain black looks better in my opinion.

Am I like one of the only people here who think this looks pretty sweet? Can't say I'll be buying one anytime soon, but still - 'tis a nice change

They could of made a cool stripey red and black one. Wtf is this thing. It looks like they let the work experience boy make it. Sonys just released a slim ps3 and has spread news of getting ps2 and DC games via psn and this is what MS has up its sleeve? LOL.

First the atrocious olive green Halo 360, then the awful fire truck red RE5 360, and now this.

    Is Microsoft colorblind?

This looks like a flea market exclusive... perhaps a yard sale exclusive?

While I have seen lots of ugly in my day, nothing could prepare me for this.

As if the Xbox wasn't ugly enough, they released the 360... and apparently THAT wasn't ugly enough, so they went the extra mile to come up with the UGLIEST POSSIBLE combination of colors to AGGRAVATE the already ugly White and Green... Black and Red.

Seriously, this thing looks like one of those crappy rubber faux basketballs out of the dollar bin.

Something tells me these are going to be sitting in retail storage rooms for a long time, and will eventually drop to $20 to get the poor ugly things out of the store. Man, I take back every bad thing I sad about the N64 controller - that thing looks like one of the Deschanel sisters compared to this monstrosity.

very ugly but that could be fix if you change the color point instead of on the right joystick center to the middle of the controller. Change the black in to white and have big letters saying Umbrella Corporation on there. That would be cool....copyright infringement cool.

is it just me or does the black have a carbon fiber look about it? Carbon fiber would be sick. IF they took out the UGLY red. Also yes i know it's a radioactive sign, the ugliest one i've ever seen, at least make it yellow.

Bleh, $60 for games is an understandable amount, but 50 for a controller I still think is too high, especially this far into the 360's life.

It's the same exact crappy d-pad Xbox 360 controller, but with a NEW SHINY COLOR! That's why it's $70 and newsworthy!

That is pretty damn ugly. I was really expecting something badass looking, I mean, how can you mess up red and black? sort of hard to do but I think this is really meh.

Am I the only one who actually likes it? Now I wouldn't buy it as I already got 3 wireless and a wired controller, but it really has something.

Ugly and too expensive, but being GameStop exclusive is the real deal breaker. I'd rather go without games than shop there.

So consoles keep going down in price while accessories and games keep going up. And that design is ugly. Bet you they still havent improved the D-pad either.

Cool. Might pick it up. Don't know why some like to whine about the d-pad, how good does a d-pad need to be? It's a d-pad. Nice design for the best console controller,bada-bing!

  • ALCHEMYSTO

    Posted Sep 23, 2009 9:32 am GMT

Hey Microsoft how about designing an actual ergonomic controller laid out in a logical fashion and with a decent d-pad. or
How about you 3rd party controler makers do what MS keeps failing to do, relocate the action buttons into the grips so one need not ever take your thumbs off the movement sticks in FPS fames.

who would waste their money on this controller when they can put any skin they want on a controller they already own for free?

@LT Snake: I agree with you. This controller dosen't really look so good, black and red is usually a good combination as you sai.d But this dosen't look good, seriosly.

  • LT_Snake

    Posted Sep 23, 2009 8:40 am GMT

I dont like the look of it. The red/black combination is usually good, but not this time.

  • griffinshotc

    Posted Sep 23, 2009 8:37 am GMT

Ummmm, I don't get it. You would think they would change up the design to make the control pad easier to use with fighting games. C'MON!!! I can paint my own controllers if it's that serious! Microsoft?!?!
