Fallout 3 GOTY edition, PS3 DLC dated

Broken Steel arrives on PSN Sept. 24, other four add-ons in early Oct.; multiplatform, DLC-inclusive edition drops Oct. 13, free 360 theme coming Oct. 1.

Bethesda Softworks is readying a series of releases in the run up to the one-year anniversary of Fallout 3's October 28 launch. On October 13, the developer and publisher will release the Game of the Year Edition of the critically acclaimed postnuclear role-playing game. Available for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC, the new version will include all five expansion packs previously released on the latter two platforms in one package. The console versions will go for $59.99, while the PC iteration will cost $49.99

Fallout 3 PS3 owners who don't want to wait until Oct. 13 will be able to download the DLC pack starting next Thursday, September 24. The well-reviewed Broken Steel, which raises the level cap to 30 and extends the game's main storyline, will be out first, followed on Oct. 1 by Operation Anchorage and The Pitt. On October 8, the final two add-on packs--the tepidly received Mothership Zeta and the more acclaimed Point Lookout--will arrive on Sony's service. Bethesda is also readying an update that will fix some lingering issues with the PS3 version of the game.

Finally, the recently litigious Bethesda is offering a reward to Xbox 360 owners who bought all five Fallout 3 DLC packs. On October 1, the company will release a premium Xbox 360 dashboard theme based on the game. Those who paid MSP 4,000 ($50) for the extra content will receive the theme gratis via a virtual token provided by Microsoft. It will be available to everyone else for MSP 240 ($3).

    I bought the Collectors' almost a year ago.
    I will most probably buy the GOTY as well.
    I respect Bethesda ever since I had Redguard. They have never disappointed me so far. I really admire what they have done with a franchise that was almost wasted away by the radioactive exposure caused by nostalgia for the "best gaming years" and by corporate takeovers

    @WTFitsPauL

    the pc version also has achievments as well since it can use the games for windows service (xbox live for pc basically) but most of the pc players of Fo3 really dont care about the achievments because we can just add new content with mods.

    @shani_boy101

    ps3 has always been more expensive than xbox and there is no way to flash it yet so there is really no competition in terms of cheap gaming, there is only one choice which still includes online play, xbox

    I agree with terpriders that's the only reason why Xbox 360 received the dlc first. Besides good things come to those who wait. The only thing that bugs me is that I would have to trade in Fallout 3 (15 trade in value) to get the game of the year edition. I prefer not to spend another 64 dollars on the same game. I rather just buy the dlc if it be cheaper, besides can anybody tell me how much is the dlc and will it be worth my while to buy the dlc or trade in Fallout 3 and buy the GYE?

    @kingmarkIII
    how on earth does that make the 360 better than PS3? as soon as this comes out they'll both be on the same level (PC is still superior cos of mods imo). you guys pay for xbox live and they still make you pay extra for things like themes and such. LOL

    if there's a special edition for PC i gotta have that one too.

  • DavidRswii

    Posted Sep 21, 2009 9:13 pm GMT

    So does this mean that the 360 will have rewards for this???

  • terpriders

    Posted Sep 21, 2009 4:47 pm GMT

    how does that make the 360 better? All 5 DLC are coming to the PS3. The only reason they went to the 360 first was because microsoft paid bethesda to make the DLC's and reiceved a 6 month exclusive. The DLC issue has nothing to due with the console war because by the end of Oct. everyone can play them. I like Microsoft's knee jerk reaction to the PS3 price drop, at the same price, I will be buying the PS3. 360 is overrated.

    oh the xbox is better because you get dlc for fallout, that's a MAJor factor in console wars isnt it

    If you are whining about expenses you shouldn't be buying games from the beginning. There is a reason people use back-ups, they can't afford anything else.

    2 grand for a good pc , where yu been shopping?
    i spent around £500/$1200 on mine and have to say wen it can do basically anything and play crysis on max its worth it, i do have xbox n ps3 too coz most of me friends play console but wen it comes to c&c and valve games its pc all teh way. But in the long run having a pc can be better depending on how much you wud upgrade it. I cant relly say much for the long run with the xbox coz of its epic FAILURE rate

    GOTY editions are about as common as 360 exclusives coming to PS3.
    Well, maybe not quite, but it might as well be.

    Admittedly I traded in Fallout 3 the first time I heard about this, so I got half my money back, but that doesn't make up for the fact that I woud have just waited for this had I known it would come out.

    Same with LBP, though I got that free from a friend, and I don't care for the expansions enough to rebuy it. Or buy it, as the case may be.
    But this is kind of getting annoying.

    Oddly enough, MGS4 didn't get any re-releases, like the rest of the series did, unless you count the MGO expansions.

    I still have to wonder wether there will be some kind of PS3 GTA4 release with the expansions. I guess I'll already have them on 360, but I'm sure Rockstar would spin a fair profit releasing those for PS3.

    @phimseto,

    Yeah, i think its only a matter of time before the gaming public become savy enough to see all the available & up and coming DLC and think "hang on, ill save my £££ and wait for the GOTY edition", me included, i am not going to make this mistake again, therefore when Fallout Vegas is released, i will simply wait for the GOTY edition instead.

    I think that due to MS's inadequacy in providing alternative means of storing external DL's, devs should provide 2 options when releasing a game like this:
    Option 1: Release core game, then release additional content in DL form.
    Option B: Simultaneous release of GOTY edition, containing all available content.

    Yes i know this will probably never happen due to the financial aspects (making money), however it would be nice to offer a choice.

    @ imaidiot

    $2000 price tag is only for people that bought a high end machine or built a REALLY high end machine. you dont have to spend that much on a pc and console prices were high when the consoles first came out as well. PS3 was $600 and if that trend keeps going then the next gen of consoles some of the systems could be pushing $1000. any ways a pc can built for cheap if you know what yor doing. learn to price watch parts and go to newegg.com during sales. you can build a nice gaming pc for about roughly $600 and if you stick with AMD you will be saving money.

    This sucks. I recently bought Fallout 3 and I immediately bought 1600 Microsoft Points and downloaded Broken Steel, but I plan on returning the game and getting the GOTY Edition. But you can't refund downloads for your MS Points back, so I basically wasted 10 bucks.
