[UPDATE] Microsoft and Activision unveil limited-edition console branded with Infinity Ward’s upcoming shooter; expanded hard drive, two wireless controllers, headset, and game included; drive will not be sold separately.

In anticipation for what has been touted as "the biggest entertainment launch of all time", Activision and Microsoft today unveiled a global Xbox 360 Modern Warfare 2 limited-edition console to get gamers excited about the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

Beginning with the game's worldwide release on November 10, fans of the franchise can arm themselves with the limited-edition Xbox 360, which will feature a custom black case design inspired by the game, a 250GB hard drive, two wireless controllers, an Xbox 360 headset, and a standard-edition copy of the Modern Warfare 2 game. The announcement comes just as an increasing number of rumors point to Sony readying a 250GB PlayStation 3.

The Xbox 360 Modern Warfare 2 limited-edition console will be sold in Europe, the Middle East, the UK, the US, Canada, Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Australia, and New Zealand and will retail in the US for US$399 and in Australia for A$599. In the UK, the console will retail exclusively in Game and Gamestation stores. Also, the first two Modern Warfare 2 maps to be released will be available first on Xbox Live.

[UPDATE] Microsoft has now confirmed to GameSpot the 250GB hard drive will only be available through the Modern Warfare 2 bundle for the foreseeable future. "We have no plans to release a standalone 250GB Hard Drive at this time," said a rep, who also confirmed the standalone 120GB external drive would remain at its $149.99 suggested retail price.

    Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (abbreviated as Call of Duty: MW3 or simply MW3) is a sequel to Infinity Ward's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. MW3 will immediately follow the events of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, where the Russians continue their invasion of the USA.

    The 250GB hard drive is on sale on it's own now. I bought 1 a couple of weeks ago.

    They will eventually release that HDD stand alone. Not much sense keeping it exclusive to a bundle.

    UGH. Always into it, eh, Microsoft? whenever you release something and people start buying, you immediately release something else. Doing it all like Apple. Plus, why $600 on a console... if it's just the 250GB hype?
    Also, i'd like to say that ppl who get this console won't even get to use half of the space, but i'm pretty sure this bundle is for gamers who aren't on Xbox360 yet.

    no, not so many versions of the game, but so many bundles and different amazing consoles to choose from. Remember the Resi 5 bundle? it was a killer!

    @gary234 actually is a better deal if you think about it... Subtract the cost of the game and you are actually getting and extra controller and a bigger hard drive for $40... Of course if she was gonna kill you foe getting the elite then you are still screwed... I don't know how I managed to convince my wife that the "upgrade" was necessary because i reserved mine by trading in some game and peripherals and plan to trade mi "old" 360 hen I go pick it up!!! My only question is.... Does it have a bundled HDMI? Probably not since it's no even mentioned!!

    My wife is going to kill me I just pre-ordered this console.Hopefully a dinner and a movie will make up for me spending over $400 on game console.

    I have a friend who has a serious case of OCD, which has him spending money on all types of limited edition products. This is one of the items where I am jealous that he is getting. The 250gb hard drive makes my 120 look small, and they aren't even going to sell it seperate! Out of all the limited edition 360s, this is my favorite by far. I liked the Resident Evil version, but this one is spectacular.

    why do ps3 fanboys always seem more fanatical and retarded than their "xbot" counterparts? Like whenever there is any 360 news ps3 people will instantly swarm it and post stupid comments. They always complain about how many "xbots" there are but all the 360 rebuttals seem calm and reasoned (still get 20 thumbs down though)

    Nintendo's done that 2 times with the DS, and they're selling things like "Enhanced Motion Controls" which really should have been part of the console in the first place, and nobody really seems to mind.

    Special edition versions of consoles come out all the time, it's when they make people repurchase what they've already bought (Nintedo DS lite, Nintendo DSi, Gameboy SP, Gameboy Micro) that drive me bonkers, even worse when people actually go along with it.

    This is a great package if your not under a budget. I don't see "smart" 360 owners hopping on this package though.

    You dont get as good hardware deals with microsoft, but ps3 is really only good for its exclusives. The majority of good games are on the 360, and if they are on ps3 then they often have better ratings on 360, due to the fact that its hard to program on PS3's cell. Anyway a lot of 360 games may be on pc, but they're not on ps3, and if you cared that much about graphics you would would have a good gaming pc instead of a ps3 anyway.

    Given my experience with these idiotic ps3 fanboys, i know that they will call me a fanboy, but i'm just stating the facts and im going to get a ps3 this christmas (I wanna play killzone 2 REALLY bad) so yall can go back and cry if you want, but you know im right.

    Wow there are a lot of haters trolling this thread. Why? Great game, great looking console, massive HD, new chipset & disk drive, 2 controllers... what's not to like?

    Methinks some peeps need to be punching their older headgeared sisters instead of getting online and trolling the boards.

    my opinion this is only a good deal for consumers who are looking to buy a xbox360 for the first time its a rip off the sweet spot for buyer's is $299.99 $399.99 is to high i think sony and microsoft needs to make better software

    i wouldn't get too excited. call of duty 6 is the exact same as the other 5. especially the gameplay. all they did was add a melee weapon and a level where you drive a snowmobile. they don't care if the game is good they just want to make money. plus this 360 looks pretty ugly i think it is just the hard drive that u guys are getting excited about.

    I call BS on them not releasing a 250gb hard drive. Maybe not "at this time", but I can't see why in the future they wouldn't release a standalone one.

    sounds like the either elite is being replaced with either a new hdd, or the new ultimate console with 250gb, all HD cables and a dark silver finish will grace us.

    Cool I will have to think hard on this one been wanting to replace my 20gb pro for a while (havent gotten RROD yet in the 2 years I have had it) Always have thought it was stupid to go get a 120gb for $160 who knows?? But we will see!! Also people really have PS3's with over 500gb of hard drive space?? I must know what you do with all that space?? I have been saving only to replace the 80gb hard drive but only to go to 200gb!! Well this may be the wrong place for the question but oh well!!

    wow this is a smart move by both microsoft and activision. Bundling one of the most anticipated games with the newest version of xbox 360 i have no doubt that it will sell well.

    Probably done the same way... MS will most likely include the data transfer kit that was provided with the Xbox 360 Elite which allowed those with the original 20GB HDD to transfer all of their data to the larger 120GB drive.

    I guess I should clarify... you had to register for the transfer kit and they sent it to you... in the meantime - until it shows up - you just use your 20GB drive.

    Very good bundle. I'm really tempted to get one. I don't see how 250gigs is overkill. So it's not overkill for the PS3? Lol. I could easily find away to use up the space. I mean between the game marketplace and video marketplace I would find a way. I mean this just makes sense with full XBLA titles , installing games to the harddrive, Games on Demand, etc...

    Boy anyone who doesn't have a 360 and was on the fence...just jump off or jump in lol.

    Its a great deal considering what you're getting. The game alone cost $60. The larger HDD would cost another $150 and add another $40 for the controller. Thats another $250 worth of stuff for $100. At the end of the day, it's a no brainer considering what you're getting for your money.
