What we heard: During the month of August, the game news cycle was increasingly dominated by leaked retail flyers showing console price drops. Or, at least it was until Sony unveiled the $299 PlayStation 3 Slim on August 18 and Microsoft announced the $299 Xbox 360 Elite on August 26, confirming the leaks.

With the PS3 and 360 Elite now just $50 more than the Wii, analysts have been predicting that it isn't a question of if Nintendo will drop its console's price, but when it will. The answer to that question may have been solved today, when Kotaku reported it had obtained an advance copy of a Toys "R" Us flyer (pictured), which will be included in newspapers starting on Sunday, September 27. In the retailer's distinctive font, the flyer declares "Wii Price Cut! $199.99 (Was $249.99).

The official story: "Nintendo does not comment on rumor or speculation." - Nintendo rep.

Bogus or not bogus?: Though scans can easily be faked, Kotaku has a pretty consistent record of only publishing flyers from authentic sources. As such, this looks not bogus.

I doubt I'm the first to say it, but its about time, the other consoles are light years more advanced and almost equal in price. I honestly do not enjoy the wii, but whatever.

And maybe the reason why the Wii hasen't had their player's choice line because they probably have to sell a certain amount just like the plat's and greatest hits. (Although some of those games probably don't make the cut lol) Not to say that Zelda isn't selling for example but your probably going to see Carnival games, and some other mini games in games crap that sell more and make the player's choice....perhaps? Eh, its amazing when parents look at the games and just buy from the title like 4 year old kids.....oh this looks fun more mini games yay! They got them like a mouse in a wheel. I work at target in the electronics....very sad, sometimes laugh, but mostly sad. Unless they actually ask me which is a good game, then I help them find the light, and feel like I made a difference in this world. (Not bashing Wii, just saying what I see)

I think the wii could easily sell for 150 and make a sweet coin. Though for those of us that live long enough, Mac, Microsoft, Google, Sony, Nintendo, will probably all become one, someday. We only have 15 years left until technology reaches it's maxim, then we must figure out the speed of light.

cmon! shrink further the console so the production cost will be lower, and finally, drop the price of all console below 200$.... so everyone will be able to get the 3 of them. And that will be the golden era of Gaming and flame wars between consoles will no longer exist since everyone has every console of the generation! Let's hope that day will happen

We all knew this was coming down the pike. Our store has seen both Elites and PS3 Slims fly out the door since their price drops while we are lucky to sell 5 Wiis in a week.
Yes, the Wii is so far out ahead in the race that neither Microsoft or Sony has any realistic chance to topple it out of 1st place. However as Sega and the Dreamcast can tell you, sometimes it's far more important on how you finish the race, than how you started it. Hopefully this price drop will spur Wii sales again, making it a competitive and successful holiday season for all involved.

It really is sad that the only games on the wii worth playing are the ones nintendo makes, with the exception of NiGHTS and RE4. I love the big N as much as the next fanboy, but there is just a huge lack of quality, in-depth titles on the wii. It's too bad it's not as exploited as the DS. Metroid Other M is just about the only game coming out worth a dime.

You guys need to speak for yourself. I saw a lot of promise at E3 especially with Metroid:Other M and the new Zelda teaser. 360 and PS3 might have the graphics but they don't have the creativity in games like Madworld, No More Heroes etc

This is like 2 years too late, thais should have been the original price point to begin with, now it's just like a slap to the face when everybody else went a $100 less.

Why do they always price the things like 599.99 rather than just 600? they could get a dollar and a cent plus per wii... Not a bad deal!

It seems that another retailer, Target, has a circular advertising the Wii price-cut for the week of Septeber 27. The source is again Kotaku.com.

Four words why I keep my Wii still...

    Resident Evil Darkside Chronicles

I've been a Resident Evil whore since I got RE2 on opening day for my PSX, then played the 1st one's Director cut. 3 was good. 4 was great. 5 was basically 4 more or less. RE2, RE1 REmake, and RE:CV are my top three favorite RE games. Umbrella Chronicles got one part, and now Darkside is doing the one I REALLY loved! 2 and CV!

Is it me or Nintendo forgot about creating video games for the Wii because they're making so much money off of ******* Wii Fit. I mean the unlucky few of us who actually tortured ourselves watching Nintendo's crap at E3 can agree that all hope is lost for Nintendo in the console industry. Wow nintendo 4-player mario bros., I'm friggin gettin a second Wii if it's bundled!

Alas, we must all remember that the Wii is a casual console, and that the only reason a gamer would have this money making machine is for brawl, or they have a family who's all sayin "omgz like motion controlz, I got madz skillz at this virtual golf sooo intense" The point? SCREW your $50 dollar price drop and make some damn games!!

@ omegasptrm Developers are already jumping to Wii. They are in it to make money. Why make games for 360 and Ps3 when there not going to sell.

good price drop, bad game releases, besides for a few... nintendo needs to get out of la la land (i know the money is good) and lobby for more 3rd party support. The new Zelda/Mario will kill us all, as always but without proper support on the next Wii they will loose. I understand that some developers just don't want to show the luv for the Wii although most thought it was a joke (especially Sony, Microsoft was just sarcastic) it now stands at the top of the gaming world. Hopefully next time a Wii with at least PS3 graphics will motivate dev to jump on board although the other systems will copy the crap out of the Wii's main punch: the Wiimote. Still I have hope because Miyamoto and others are still at Nintendo and they just happen to be the most consistant uber game developrs around so I'll wait until the money drunkenness wears off (i think its starting to!)

    @Sharhan
Wait, what? Nintendo ending up like Sega??? They have the 2 best selling games consoles in the world and are making a bunch of money on every unit sold. Both Sony and Microsoft have slashed their prices numerous times in order to compete with each other and have both been outsold by the Wii (which is more expensive than the 360 Arcade) almost every week. I know the Wii kind of sucks that there is no hardcore titles but quite simply Nintendo no longer care about us, there are far too many casual gamers with too much money for Nintendo to ever give a crap about us ever again

the oldest if not the oldest video game company is finally being threatened hhhh the goood old gamecube....it is too bad they may end up like sega with the wii being their last success...the only thing i worrry about are the poor guys still working for nintendo.(no offense intended nintendo)

nintendo has to face the facts....without more 3rd parties for the wii(for us hardcore fans) the wii suuuckkkksss. this is coming out of a man who likes shooters and fighting RPGs and not puzzle and minigames. sorry nintendo but if it werent for games like Zelda and SSBB i wouldve never boughten a wii. im sure that im speaking for everyone who has a dusty wii when i say that you need more hardcore games and more 3rd parties...

I'm happy for Nintendo's success, but I've no interest in the Wii console. I appreciate that Wii motion is a great change for users to more interact with a game instead of straight out couch binding, but I'm looking for high definition gaming like on the other consoles . . . no not the Dreamcast.

Hm, still gonna pass. I love my $360 but if I am going to pop $200 down on a new console, I will add another $100 to it and get a PS3. There just isn't a single game coming out or currently out on the Wii that remotely interests me. My kids yes, but me no. For me to play anything less than a HD console feels as though I am going backwards. Strange I know, but oh well. Maybe at $100 I will make an "impulse" buy.

The Wii's fun, but sometimes it's kind of a letdown, a lot of times actually. Maybe it's a matter of choice between button mashing and stick-like device holding. I love Nintendo, I chose the Gamecube over the PS2, the 64 over the PSX, but it's been hard defending them lately. I hope they do a better device next time.

Its funny Nintendo execs laugh at the fanboys who sit and whine every time that they(nintendo) make a move that will continue to make them money. That said people who buy wii's don't browse these sites and read your retarded comments about how the technology is 15yrs old(btw thats the dumbest thing i've ever heard 15yrs ago i was playing a 32 bit system now that dude is retarded) they just buy into it like a fad. You'll NEVER beat them, they have the non video game playing consumer interested which is 90% of people for god sakes they fillin up old homes with them YOUVE LOST get over it you better just hope sony and ms stay around long enough to satisfy the hardcore gamers needs so plz stop blasting the wii because people are gonna buy it regardless its like i tell republicans just roll over you lost wait until the next election aka next gen maybe nintendo will come back to the hardcore side maybe not.

I have a solution toward the wii collecting dust situation... Cover the damn thing when you don't play it. I am a wii60, i got the best of both worlds. No complaints from both consoles, but i do play my 360 more than wii, thats about it. I give about 30 hours a week to my xbox 360, compared to like 5 hours for my wii. Halo 3 is much funner than brawl.

I'm not surprised. It makes sense for Nintendo to drop the price on the Wii. They're the only company who actually made profit from their console since day one unlike Sony and MS. With this price cut, unfortunately it appears that they will continue to have the majority of the market share but only by a slim margin as a result of Sony and MS's price cuts on their respective consoles.
