Ever since its 1995 breakout hit "Da Funk," French tech-house act Daft Punk has been a fixture in dance clubs and at music festivals. Now, Rolling Stone magazine has revealed that the Paris-based duo of Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter will be appearing in a video game for the first time.
Unsurprisingly, that game will be DJ Hero, Activison's forthcoming turntable-based rhythm game. According to Rolling Stone, Daft Punk will use the game to release 11 exclusive mash-ups of its own tracks with hits from acts like Queen, No Doubt, and Young MC. The pair, who rarely appear in public undisguised, will also let players don their trademark robot helmets and play in venues modeled after their elaborate stage shows (see below).
Daft Punk is the latest high-profile band announced for DJ Hero, which ships October 27 for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, Xbox 360, and Wii. They join DJ Jazzy Jeff, Eminem, Jay-Z, DJ Shadow, Tiesto, and Grandmaster Flash on the game, which features and was partially designed by the recently deceased DJ AM.
[UPDATE] Activision has now made it official, releasing the first screenshots of Daft Punk in the DJ Hero game (pictured). It also named eight of the 11 exclusive mixes to be featured in the game:
--Daft Punk "Around the World" vs. Young MC "Bust A Move"
-- Daft Punk "Da Funk" vs. NASA "Strange Enough ft. Karen O, ODB and Fatlip"
-- Daft Punk "Da Funk" vs. Queen "Another One Bites the Dust"
-- Daft Punk "Robot Rock" vs. Hashim "Al-Naafiysh (The Soul)" Produced and mixed by The Scratch Perverts
-- Daft Punk "Robot Rock" vs. Queen "We Will Rock You"
-- Daft Punk "Short Circuit" vs. Boogie Down Productions "Jack Of Spades"
-- Daft Punk "Technologic" vs. Gary Numan "Cars"
-- Daft Punk "Television Rules The Nation" vs. No Doubt "Hella Good"
