$100 Wii Fit Plus bundle arrives Oct. 4

Nintendo's expanded fitness sim offering 21 new activities, customizable routines later this year; stand-alone disc running for $19.99.

Released in May 2008, Wii Fit has proven to be one of Nintendo's evergreen juggernauts. The third-best-selling non-PC game in the US in 2008 with 4.53 million units sold, Nintendo's fitness sim was the top seller during the first half of 2009, according to the NPD Group.

Today, Nintendo announced that an expanded edition of the game, Wii Fit Plus, will be available in North America on October 4. The publisher also confirmed that Wii Fit Plus will replace all current Wii Fit bundles, which include the Wii Balance Board accessory, and will retail for $99.99--$10 more than the previous package. Though rumors had indicated a $30 price tag, Nintendo also confirmed that a stand-alone Wii Fit Plus disc will sell for $19.99.

Explaining the inflated price tag, Nintendo notes that Wii Fit Plus will include all of the original title's activities, as well as 15 new balance games and six additional strength-training exercises. Wii Fit Plus will also let players customize their workout routines, a feature that drew criticism due to its absence in the original.

    If they were smart they would continue to bring out expansions pretty consistently with such a large base. It's nice to see an exercise based game is doing so well.

    I've been very close to getting Wii Fit. Good deal for me.

    What i dont get is, Wii Fit doesn't require anything from the Wii, surely this board technology could work on PC/360/PS3. I like the idea of it but i dont want to have to get a Wii to play it. Why not even have the board plug straight into the TV with the game built in

    I'm just getting the game by itself. No reason to have two balance boards and waste the money on batteries.

    When are they going to make it so that you can use 2 balance boards at the same time? Instant way to double their sales of WiiFit!!!

    30 bucks for the new game? Guess that means I'll be trading in my old wii fit game before the value drops.

    okay, so retailers should be having some good sales some time this month on the current SKU. Now the decision is (a) buy the current bundle when it goes on sale (b) wait and just pay the extra for the new bundle since it will include all of the old content anyway.... what to do; what to do...

    Sounds like a great deal, I'm hoping the price will stay the same once it comes to Australia, and then it might get a lot of the fence-sitters into it.

    Nice. I already can think of one person I'll be buying this for ($20 disc - not the full thing).

  • kejigoto

    Posted Sep 1, 2009 7:24 pm GMT

    $20 isn't a bad price, I'll probably pick up the stand alone disk for that price and just use my old balance board.

    @atopp399 - So true... But see, she does all the Shristmas shopping, so if she see's it and says 'can I?' - then and only then, do I say "well, if you want it sure... I think you look great regardless." - if not I blame it on the kids.

    Thank God Nintendo learned lesson # 1: Drop prices to match the competition (even if on software). Hopefully the Wii's price also dips soon.

    $10 more because the game has improved over the first? You don't see movie sequels retailing $10 over the first's price just because the special effects are better, do you?

    the best thing we can hope for is for the "casual" gamers to become mario gamers, metroid, F-zero and other nintendo flagship consumers.

    I'd rather pay for a $20 game that makes me exercise and hold me accountable to sticking to it, than pay for a gym membership and go a few times a month. And I'd certainly rather play Wii Fit for its health benefits than trash it for being crap, or too casual, or gimmicky. Truth is, Nintendo would be crazy NOT to update Wii Fit considering the first game's massive sales.

    Sigh... I would see this crap in my wife's wish list soon. Why? Because she likes any kind of crap coming from Nintendo. She's been asking for that Wii Motion Plus crap even though she doesn't have any games that use it.

    @atopp399
    You're completely right about the stocking stuffer for the Mrs. Nintendo got the family man by the balls. Kids with Pokemon and Mrs with Wii Fit.

    Just let me play with my 360 and PS3 and I'll be ok.

    If I still owned the original I would probably have bought this as it does look like an enjoyable expansion. But I sold it last Christmas and made 30 quid profit on it too lol (bought for 70, sold for 100). A perfect example of how to exploit non-gamers desire for the latest fad.

    @BigWorld41:
    Do a little research on the game, there's a lot of features in this version that the older one should have had, it will be a much better experience. Plus it will only cost you 20$.
