Modern Warfare 2 casts Keith David, Kevin McKidd

Halo 3 actor, Rome star join Saving Private Ryan's Barry Pepper on board Infinity Ward's next Call of Duty game; actor Craig Fairbrass' return may shed light on plot.

August began with reports that rapper 50 Cent had joined the voice cast of the oft-retitled Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Today, Infinity Ward director of communications Robert Bowling revealed several more actors who will appear in the highly anticipated sequel, which GameStop executives are predicting could be the best-selling console game of all time.

Via his Twitter feed, which he also used to unveil the $150 Prestige Edition's night-vision goggle pack-in and Mad Catz MW2-branded controller--Bowling today confirmed that the "final voice work" of five actors is currently being put into the game, due out November 10 worldwide.

First up is Keith David, a familiar voice to many gamers. David lent his distinctive baritone to the Arbiter in Halo 2 and 3, Captain Anderson in Mass Effect, gang boss Julius in Saints Row 1 and 2, Lord Vekk in Lords of EverQuest, Vhailor in PlaneScape: Torment, and Decker in the original Fallout. A stage veteran and prolific character actor, David also appeared in such films as Requiem for a Dream, They Live, and Platoon.

Bowling also confirmed Modern Warfare 2 will feature Kevin McKidd, who was the voice of Love Fist rocker Jezz Torrent in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, his only prior game appearance. The Scottish actor's breakthrough role was the doomed junkie Tommy in the cult film Trainspotting, but he has since made a bigger mark on television. He played fallen centurion Lucius Vorenus in HBO's lavish series Rome, was the lead in the canceled NBC sci-fi show Journeyman, and currently has a recurring part on Grey's Anatomy, though he does not appear in Ubisoft's game adaption.

Also on board is Barry Pepper, who most recently voiced Alex Mercer in another Activision game, top June title Prototype. The Canadian actor is best known for his role as the bible-quoting American sniper in Saving Private Ryan and also appeared in the war epics We Were Soldiers and Flags of our Fathers. Pepper, additionally, has the dubious distinction of being the lead in Battlefield Earth, regarded as one of the worst films ever made.

Also on the voice roster is American character actor Glenn Morshower, who was last seen in the summer blockbuster Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen. Though he's appeared in nearly 150 television shows and films, his highest profile role was the secret service agent Aaron Pierce in several seasons of 24. He reprised the part in the 2006 game adaptation of the Fox television series.

The last name Bowling revealed is the least known--but might have the most information about Modern Warfare 2's plot. British thespian Craig Fairbrass is also appearing in the game, two years after he voiced the SAS commando Gaz in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Problem is, Gaz was shot in the head with a Desert Eagle toward the end of the fourteenfold-platinum actioner, meaning his appearance may be a flashback--or Gaz had the good fortune to survive a high-caliber head wound.

Modern Warfare 3 is currently in development by Infinity Ward with assisted development from Sledgehammer Games and Raven Software. All in all, Modern Warfare 3 needs 3 development teams to get the job done; including all the MW3 weapons, perks, etc.

Love all the voice actors except for 50cent. I hope he doesn't have a prominent role. I'll feel like a total tool if I get into the story and 50 cent comes on with his pop culture ghetto slang encouraging me to continue shooting people in various aggro parts of the world.

With a cast like Kevin McKidd, Keith David, Barry Pepper. This might be an interesting game. 50 cent? They could of brought in Ice-T, Chris 'Ludacris' Bridges or Ice Cube if they were going to put a rapper in it.

Keith David has done phenomenal work in the past. I couldn't be happier to see the guy on board. Stern voice - the way he voices the Captain in Mass Effect is awesome. Really glad to see his role in MW2. Kudos to Keith David. Fail on 50 Cent. 50?? Really...? Bleh. I have never enjoyed any of 50 roles in any films. Especially righteous kill? what a joke of a film that was. He ended up playing himself. Plus the director was lame too.

Oh well - this game is gonna r0xs0rz anyway. w00p.

i predict a similar future to that which MW1 enjoyed

if you go into any shop i swear they'll make you pay more for COD4 than COD5 no joke

now that is an amazing testament to how good MW1 is !!

I think that puttin 50 cent in the games pretty sick. What's wrong with putting one of the biggest rap stars of all time in a game? I'm sure he was just as hard to get as Keith David.

He's probably been in a "crapload of games" because he's *that* good (and not *that* cheap, as I'm sure some cynic will put forth), you know. So I will have to respectfully disagree with your assessment of Mr. David's talents and whether they are needed in this game...however, I'm totally on board with your call on 50 Cent. They really could and should have done better. -=x

Yes! Barry Pepper, he was awesome in Saving Private as that marksman Private Daniel Jackson! or as Joe Galloway in We were soldiers. This is the kinda game he fits in.

I never knew he made the voice for Alex mercer in Prototype 0_0

Somehow, I am expecting disappointment. The multiplayer will be good, as MW showed 2 years back, but most likely the singleplayer will be the eternal no-AI, memorize-the-level-like-you-did-with-NES-games Call of Duty fare...

If you watch the Story Trailer again, you can see the Gun was not DIRECTLY above Gaz's head, perhaps he was shot in the back?

  • Intrakitt

    Posted Aug 21, 2009 6:40 pm GMT

There's no way someone can survive a Desert Eagle round to the back of the head like Gaz took. It's impossible. Do you know what a DE round would do to your face? Split! The guy will most likely play a different character. That's what a good voice actor does, right?

This really isn't a good cast. Keith David has been in a crapload of games already so how hard was it to really get him on board? I think they could have done a lot better...and 50 Cent? Come on now Infinity Ward. You used to be the epitome of a quality developer, but your choices for voices in MW2 are just retarded. Oh well, I'm sure the game will still be great but I better have the option to turn the voice volume down. I refuse to listen to 50 Cent speak. That guy is poison.

    @mistaicyfresh11
You know there is such a thing as a comma?
Anyways, the game I'm on the fence for this one. Like most first-person shooters and the call of duty series in general, it looks a LOT like the original, but I thought about it and I have liked all of them so far except Big Red One and COD3.

Cant wait for this. And yes, ive followed Call Of Duty through every game, im not just one of these COD4 babies. And for me, the campaign mode is the most important thing. Multiplayer is a bonus but not as important as story mode IMO. I cant believe so many people jump straight into online mode these days without even finishing single player. That makes me sick, friggin short attention span people have nowadays.
