This morning, Sony headlined its GamesCom press conference with the long-rumored debut of the PlayStation 3 Slim, saying the streamlined 120GB device would be available worldwide during the first week of September. The conference was reminiscent of Sony's 2009 Electronic Entertainment Expo press conference, if only because the publisher used its time in the limelight to unveil a similarly spoiled overhaul for its handheld, the UMD-less PSP Go.
When the PSP Go launches on October 1, it will do so alongside Polyphony Digital's Gran Turismo PSP, a game that was first teased way back in 2004. Today, Sony announced a plan to incentivize early adopters of the new handheld, saying that those who register their PSP Go between October 1 and October 10 will receive a free copy of Gran Turismo PSP. Gamers can also pick up a free copy of Gran Turismo PSP by preordering Gran Turismo 5 for the PlayStation 3.
Unfortunately, Sony US has confirmed to GameSpot the Gran Turismo PSP/Gran Turismo 5 preorder deal is valid in Europe only. "The offer is not valid in all other territories," a Sony rep told GameSpot. The rep did not indicate whether other regions would receive their own, unique incentives.
