FIFA 10 bumped to October 20

[UPDATE] EA Sports NA multiplatform release of annual soccer sim arriving three weeks after Euro launch; Blanco, Kljestan, Lampard named to cover

EA Sports is well aware that soccer (also read: football) enjoys the bulk of its popularity abroad. As such, the publisher has taken to naming regional heroes to the cover of its annual footie sim, FIFA Soccer. As such, the publisher said last week that Manchester United's Wayne Rooney, Arsenal's Theo Walcott, and Chelsea's Frank Lampard would front the cover of FIFA 10 in the UK.

Today, EA Sports teased out the aforementioned dynamos' North American equivalents, saying Major League Soccer stars Cuauhtemoc Blanco of Chicago Fire and Sacha Kljestan of Chivas USA will appear on the cover of FIFA 10 in North America. The North American athletes will be joined by Lampard, who EA Sports noted will be featured on the game's cover globally.

A five-time MVP of the Mexican Premier League and two-time MLS All-Star, Blanco joined the Chicago Fire as midfielder in 2007. Also a prominent MLS athlete, Kljestan led Chivas USA in 2008, earning team MVP with the most goals scored on the year. Earning his international cover-star status, Chelsea's Lampard is only the second English Premier League midfielder to have scored more than 100 career goals.

Along with revealing the box art for FIFA 10, EA Sports also noted that the game is now expected to arrive in North America on October 20, nearly three weeks after its previously announced international release of October 2.

[UPDATE] Following the publication of this article, EA Sports clarified the release schedule of FIFA 10 in Europe, saying that the game remains on track to release in the region on October 2.

In development at EA Canada, FIFA 10 will be available for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, PSP, Wii, DS, and PC. For more information, check out GameSpot's previous coverage of FIFA 10.

    Would love to have seen DeRosario on the cover representing Canada. He is a good enough player to represent MLS in general not just Canada.

    their lacking that realistic filter that PES has.....probably the only good thing about PES 2009 lol.

    hopefully they'll both be revolutionary this year.

    Big names sell games, simple. Personally I don't care which players look up from the cover all I want is for EA to fix the body checking in the game which never results in a foul..it was FIFA 09 not NFL 09

    blanco is a good player he deserved to be on the cover years later.
    But change kljestan for rooney

    There's plenty of people in the US who aren't Eurosnobs and support their local MLS team, and the league as a whole, and are happy to see MLS players on the cover of the North American version.

    @Seifer-fx

    demn... this cover is realy ugly :S
    why!?!?!!?!?!!!

    there are just some white splatter on the sides and in the US cover, well it is awsome! i dont catch why they changed the cover to the uk so dramaticly, i mean all the other EA SPORTS games have the same cover style as the US, and UK (ugly rooney one), well, it is just so ugly... but, what ever, i just hope the ball's speed in this game will be much faster (and realistic...) then the ball in fifa 2009, i could kick and go make me a dinner and go back to see if i missed lol

    for now, i am waiting for the gameplay day or what ever it is

    sory for my bad english

    @Ramoramoramo
    Cut your garbage out,
    every country is aloud to play football..
    You are just being ridiculously childish.
    It doesn't matter is the MLS is not to the standard of European football, they haven't been around for 100 years, like a lot of European clubs.
    If your going to be a kid about it, don't post.

    I liked it much better with Ronaldinho. Lampard = FAIL. Also the MLS players should be Stuart Holden of the Dynamo and De Rosario of Toronto FC.

    @Seifer-fx

    I can tell you why no Liverpool players are on the cover.. Pro Evo has Liverpool license and they obviously focusing on English players therefore you would only have Stevie-G on the cover if Pro Evo didnt have Liverpool license...

    Can't wait for the yearly release of FIFA. Now this is real Football.

    @QcamBer

    If your in the UK its going to be Lampard, Rooney and Walcot.

    Interesting that they have players from the top english clubs but NO players from Liverpool? Strange as they almost won it last year and have a player that is on par with Lampard in Gerrard.
