Source: Internet-mining site Superannuation.

What we heard: Superannuation has been on a tear of late, unearthing an abundance of United States Patent and Trademark Office filings and online resumes that point to a variety of publishers' potential plans for the future. And if the site's latest nugget of information is to be believed, Disney Interactive Studios doesn't plan on returning to its new off-road racing franchise Pure anytime soon.

As spotted by Superannuation, the online resume of a former Black Rock Studios artist states that Disney scuttled plans to publish Pure 2 on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The artist, who accordingly worked on the project in 2008, posted a number of shots along with his resume to advertise his work, including concept shots of two different ATVs seen from various angles for Pure 2.

Pure met a strong critical reception upon its release for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC in September 2008. However, the game's retail performance was less impressive, with the title shifting just shy of 300,000 units across all platforms in the US through June, according to the NPD Group. Black Rock Studios--known as Climax Racing before Disney purchased the UK outfit in 2006--is currently at work on Split/Second, a cinematic racer due for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC in early 2010.

Like many others within the game industry, Disney has been feeling the impact of the global economic downturn. In January, the publisher trimmed headcount at Propaganda Games, which developed 2008's Turok revival. At the same time, Disney consolidated its Avalanche Software and Fall Line Studios locations, which resulted in more staff reductions.

The official story: Disney Interactive Studios had not responded to requests for comment as of press time.

Bogus or not bogus?: Likely not bogus that Disney halted development on Pure 2. However, with Split/Second speeding toward release early next year, there's nothing stopping Black Rock Studios from returning to the franchise in the future.

Hope it happens....if it does PLEASE add offline multiplayer - this IMO was a fundemetal flaw in the games longer-lasting appeal for a allot of gamers.

Pure is the greatest ATV or offroad racing game on any platform to date. I would definately rather see Pure 2 come out than any of the stupid war games or car racers that are a dime a dozen these days. As far as Disney is concerned, you can tell they're a bunch of morons if they cancel Pure 2 as it's the ONLY game that they have made that's worth 2 cents let alone the price of new games these days.

Pure IS a superb game and always will be. Graphics are the best I've seen yet, frame rate is great and the tricks are very smooth and very cool. We need more games like this, no doubt. Everyone should buy it. All Pure 2 would need is new tricks along with the old ones,
longer and more tracks, and a timer you could adjust for freestyle. We need more games like Pure, there's no SSX which is great and there should be. In my opinion arcade style games are the best and they're more fun, you light it up and they are cool games. Oh, you don't have to always add something new to a game all the time. You especially don't change the whole thing. Take Note

him42 I have to agree with you. Pure is fun, damn fun. It was a complete sleeper that I picked up on a whim. And while it doesn't carry the longevity of a title like Burnout Paradise, it still stands as one of my favourite racers on the 360.

It will be sad to see this game go to the garage in the sky.because with a little refinement the sequel could have really been something special. A real shame.

To me, Pure is to Burnout what Dirt is to Grid.

Pure was good for a demo run, but I was actually bored of it by the time I played through the demo. Not a good sign.

It DID inspire me to dust off Burnout Paradise and fly higher, drive faster, and crash into things mo' better. So that's good... right?

i think there are way to many racing games out there now. i love to play racing games but i like to stick with the core franchises unless it gets higher then a 9.0 on metacritic or on gamespot or a 5 star in the magazines. i mean there arent to many things u can do with a racer u can have and arcadey feel or a sim feel so i think this was a good idea even tho i liked pure i wouldnot buy pure2

I borrowed Pure from a friend and i only played it twice. It's a good game, but i just wasn't into a racer at the time.

Pure was an awesome game, but it was underrated. It deserves way more sales. I hope they do make Pure 2, and I hope they put in more tracks, other vehicle classes and some split-screen offline multiplayer, which has been lacking in games lately.

I loved Pure, probably the only Disney game I have ever (or will ever) like. I'm happy to hear that they aren't releasing a Pure 2 just yet, unlike Activision's yearly installments of Guitar Hero, Call of Duty, and the near yearly Tony Hawk games.

It seems like a lot of people are saying the same thing. I really loved the demo and was extremely looking foward to pick this up but I simply did not have the cash. $60 is a lot to put down for a videogame! I honestly only buy like only 1 or 2 big titles at full price per year now. The game industry has to realize that games are simply too expensive for the average joe. I usually end up picking up games are bargain bin prices. I would of bought Pure no questions asked for $39.99 Canadian.

I liked the pure demo... I probably would have got it. Its just the 60 dollar price point makes buying multiple games at any given time an issue. I will probably pick the game up, but I would have to find it cheap. Sorry, but recessions do this kinda thing.

    I liked PURE also...

    Very underrated game...

It just got lost in the shuffle of all the racing games that came out last year (MarioKart, Burnout Paradise, Midnight Club: LA, Need For Speed: Undercover, Motorstorm: Pacific Rift, Gran Turismo: Prologue, GRID, ETC)

Kinda like all the fighting games that have come out or going to come out this year (Street Fighter 4, UFC, Fight Night Round 4, Tekken 6, ETC.)

Pure is quite a game. Easily the best offroad racer this generation. I can't believe there wont' be a sequel after how praised it was. I guess it didn't sell. Sad.

I have Pure I thought it was a decent game but it just needed more tracks instead making you do the same tracks over and over but the best part about Pure was the freestyle mode doing the stunts and gaining points. I hope Black Rock Studios and Disney bring Pure 2

  • Eastcoast93

    Posted Jul 26, 2009 1:49 pm GMT

yeah why not...pure was a good and fun game...pure 2 must have lots better though like much more tracks and longer ones especially. i thought pure was a bit repetetive after a while!

I'm not sure where the HP hate came from, I used HP products for years, my gaming pc is hand built though, but for small laptops and small desktops they are pretty good and always had great replies from their customer service. Or wait, unless you mixed up HP with Packard Bell. The later was down right awful. Either way though, to the subject, Fuel was pretty good. From what I know people enjoyed it, so I hope they don't just stop making them.

Pure was a game that really surprised me. The guys who made it also did ATV Offroad Fury 3 and 4 which were downright awful. Offroad Fury 4 was nothing more than an MX vs ATV ripoff, but Pure was unique, and actually had good handling. I'd like a Pure 2, but if not, there's always the new MX vs ATV.

Don't buy any Hewlett Packard products. Don't download from their site. It's not safe, they purposely put in files making you believe they are safe and it messes up your pc. They will refuse to help unless you bribe them around $100 to fix the problem that they caused. I will never get HP products again. I hope I will be able to save someone from the aggravations of their products and horrible rude customer service.

The first Pure was a pretty good game , also reminded me of SSX. The game did have a few flaws though which is why a sequel would be really cool, however I understand Disney's point since it didn't sell well and in the end thats all the matters to these companies. Oh well.....

Pure 1 Was Pretty good reminded me of the SSX Franchise just on Atv's such a shame for the best atv game on the 360 already calling it quits thanks to disney and there short on sales During the beginning, unfortunate for a game that has full potential on becoming greater, Disney proceeds in another money corrupted Project.-----So there afraid It wont bring any Money into there conglomerate company ..Nice only if they Knew

This is what happens when you deal with Disney. They don't have a clue how to run a business anymore, needing Pixar to now bail them out after their failure at animated films. And they really don't know anything about games, which is why Capcom did a lot of their NES games in the past.

As much as a hate EA, I think I may give NFS:Shift a looksee. Really the only two good racing games so far on the PS3 have been F1 Racing and Grid Grid is sick with detail.

Didn't know disney made videogames like pure, I wonder what they'll do in the future a MA rated game? Well I heard pure a was a good solid game, I think I'll try pure 2 if it comes out.

Pure is a solid title, but, it did get a bit repetitive. I for some reason couldn't justify $60 for this game either. I think it is a bit short on content for the price, as are ALOT of games these days. Black Rock (CLIMAX) made the best Moto GP games EVER. They definitely are a premier racing game studio. I am currently looking to trade this game due to the lack of an online community. I can never find people to play this game with.

Ahpuck, I totally agree. I loved Pure and was going to buy it until I saw it was 59.99. I would have paid 39.99 and maybe 49.99, but I feel most sports games just aren't worth full retail.

  • ahpuck

    Posted Jul 25, 2009 12:35 pm GMT

Pure is the kind of games i would have bought if it was 49.99 instead of 59.99. I will only pay 59.99 if the game is an absolute must have, other than that, i'll pass.
