UFC 2009 due for patch-up work

Every great fighter needs a great cornerman with a knack for patching up all manner of abuse. THQ has to fill that role for the more than 1 million UFC 2009: Undisputed players in the US to date, and it will do so soon, starting with an update to address some early issues affecting the game.

UFC producer Neven Dravinski this week detailed the first patch for Undisputed on the game's official Web site. First and foremost on Dravinski's list of issues to fix is the abundance of quitters who drop out of matches rather than take a loss. The developer's solution to the problem will be to integrate code that determines who dropped the match and assign a loss and a "Did Not Finish" to the player. Additionally, dropping will reset a player's winning streak to zero, and the player's DNF percentage will be visible to potential opponents on the online ranked match mode's selection screen.

The patch will also address a number of other issues. In the single-player mode, the difficulty of making an opponent submit has been changed to better balance the effectiveness of strikes and submissions when playing against the computer. The development team is also toning down the frequency of flash knockouts (match ending strikes in the first seconds of a bout), fixing a bug in the PlayStation 3 edition of the game that causes freezes during auto-saving, and tweaking the Create-a-Fighter mode so that brawlers with tampered statistics won't be able to compete online.

"Rest assured our entire team plays A LOT [emphasis in original] of online matches and we read the boards every day, so we are well aware of the issues," Dravinski wrote. "We want to make sure we patch this correctly so it is taking a bit of time, but I can confidently say we'll be releasing this patch soon."

UFC 2009: Undisputed is available for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

I once vs a dude who had his CAF stats all up to 120 or something.. still kikd the sukaz ass but i think thats wat they mean by the tampering, apprently theres a cheat? - its good to see they are doing something about the flaws!!! - next ufc they bring out should be pretty decent as they have set a fairly solid foundation, its not flawless but its still a very good game especially for MMA fans like myself :-)

I am so happy to see this! Online play has been very disappointing to say the least, I have over 300 matches played online and about 80 of them have resulted in people "quitting" on me as I am about to win. Thank you thank you!!

Finally, I think like alot of people, I stopped playing online because of quitters, soon as this patch drops, I'm back. And I guess if you have a crappy connection that randomly drops, don't play

My only concern is whether you will get a loss and DNF if you are disconnected or if it will recognize that as something different. The need is definitely there to keep pansies from dropping matches to avoid a loss, but it would also be very frustrating to have your win streak busted and get a DNF because you got disconnected.

Get off your couch and start a fight for real. I'll flash knock you out just like the computer a.i. And to the guy who said when it's coming? It will be coming soon, didn't you read the article?

This patch will surely make the game better. It is almost impossible to submit the ai. I would like the submission system to be more like the old Pride FC game (also developed by THQ). The flash KOs really need to be tone down speccially on the ground.

That's a good patch. A can mention a few other games that need something similar.

I picked up this game a couple weeks ago and still haven't gotten around to really playing it. At least now I know that there have been headaches with it, so I will probably just wait until the patch goes live before I really dive in.

The lag was lame as hell even with a good connection, hope they fix it. I play my friend who only lives 10 miles away, we both have high speed broadband and still got some laggy matches, totally stupid.

What if the player loses his internet connection or has a power cut, he doesn't quit deliberatley? Does he still get his score set to 0?

I knew it was bound to happen so I didn't bother competing online(except with friends.) Now that the game is getting patched I'd will definitely be considering some other opposition. I am still undefeated against my friends and co-workers. I also tend to play it more than them so I'm always tweaking my game plans and strategies. I've also created many characters and varied their skills allowing for different game plans(slight variations in the name so my friends don't notice.)

Huge UFC fan myself, Randy Couture is my favorite fighter followed by Lyoto Machida.

I quit playing online due to early quiters and then played out the career mode. Maybe I'll come back to it when the patch comes out.

If your a UFC fan come discuss UFC 100 with us in the MMA Union

I like the some of the patch but about a Win when the other player DNF? I would be plus 50 right now if it weren't for quitters. Until I get a win for a DNF I won't be happy.
