Activision may be sprinting to capitalize on the peripheral-driven rhythm genre with this year's Guitar Hero 5, Guitar Hero: Van Halen, DJ Hero, and Band Hero, but it's foot-dragging when it comes to releasing setlists for those games. After initially revealing just six of the 85 songs featured in Guitar Hero 5, Activision last month released the entire list of artists in the game.

Now the publisher is drawing the process out even further, today releasing another batch of new songs to be included on the game disc. The new tracks represent a variety of styles, from Guitar Hero veterans like David Bowie and Santana to relative newcomers like Vampire Weekend and Elliott Smith.

Guitar Hero 5 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, and PlayStation 2 is set to ship to stores September 1. The list of new tracks revealed follows below:

    El_JuAnItO, In no way shape or form should Papa Roach be on ANY Guitar Hero game!! In addition, the All American Rejects are rejects and Slipknot should go by their namesake and hang themselves!!

    there needs to be metal and more current music, i dont mind classic music but there is already the beatles and van halen games coming out and i just want to play current songs like some protest the hero or 3 days grace or something

    Some of the songs are so boring and just no fun to play through. This setlist doesn't look too exciting. Put in some audioslave/ green day/ punk rock like clash, misfits, NoFX, rancid, stooges. C'mon

    where is Pearl Jam,Red Hot Chili Peppers,Tool,AC/DC,Foo Fighters And Soundgarden?,This is the WORSE set list that i ever see.I Prefer RB2,if the entire set list is going to be a $&!T then im going to Wait to the Next GH or RB game (with the exception of:RB:Beatles and GH5),like someone says (dont remember the name) this songs need to be DLC because im Only know the 15% of the songs (3 Songs)

    Overall:BIG DISAPPOINTED

    they really should make a bulletin so fans of the game can put the names of the songs we want...... i no i wuld put songs like:

    bullet for my valentine- scream aim fire / tears don't fall
    journey- don't stop believing
    papa roach- lifelne / last resort / scars
    green day- boulvard of broken dreams / american idot/ wake me up when september ends
    system of a down- aerials / lonley day
    santana- this boys fire / corazon espinado
    three days grace- riot

    I was totally looking forward to this game, having heard that you can dynamically join in/quit playing the song without interrupting the music. I also thought the idea of just having the game play music for a party was great too. However, having just seen the playlist, I don't think I'm getting this game. There's not enough "main stream" music, unless the other 70 songs or so will be. GH: Metallica was awesome for the Metallica songs, but not worth the time for the "supporting music." GHIII had some good music as did GHWT, but there is no best Guitar Hero game. It'd be nice if we could create our own playlist from all the available songs out there. It would also be great if the fans of the series could vote for future songs! And in the ideal world, it'd be great to upload a song and have some program create the highways automatically...

    The only rhythm game I'm getting this year is The Beatles: Rock Band. It's not that I hate the Guitar Hero games (1 and 2 were great), but Neversoft and Activision ruined a groundbreaking series. After the 2nd game in the series the setlists have been getting more terrible after each game, with the new additions (such as creating tracks, and a store to buy other player's songs) being poorly executed. The only good game from Neversoft was Guitar Hero: Metallica.

    2 or 3 songs strike an interest in me. 25% chance in purchasing this game.

    just got to wait for neversoft to release the full setlist. yet i dont even think those songs will be worthwhile.

    Activision, Neversoft, and Red Octane have come out with the BEST games of GH ever! The whole point is to be creative, have FUN. Playing with friends or family is not only mentally intreging, but to be able to play through the songs gives a great feeling of accomplishment and have lots of laughs. I encourage everyone to spend quality time on these games, they have great variety of music! Most of all HAVE FUN!!

    Darkest Hour and Children of Bodom sold me...I was deciding to wait for this or get smash hits...but with the good metal coming later...ill think ill wait...they should really do a Guitar Hero Summer Slam or something for the metal ness...they can never do too many cuz the songs tend to be hard...but thats part of the fun

    I'm gonna be the first to admit, that I am a little disappointed with this part of the setlist. There were a lot of songs from the bands on this list that I would've liked and don't see. However, I will give them a chance. I like most of the bands on the setlist and I'm sure these songs will be good even though I'm not familiar with them. But all you haters out there really need to get a life and learn that because you didn't get what you want, that this game will automatically suck. So, take the following into account, and stop being stupid.

    1.) This isn't even the whole setlist. There could be better stuff on the way. You don't know."
    2.) Like I said, you're all complaining about how these songs would've been better if there were more well-known songs from the bands. You must like some of these bands... If you don't like the song choice for that band, at least listen to the song from them... Chances are if you like that band, you'll like the new song.
    3.) If you hate music/rhythm games, freaking go somewhere else. We don't wanna hear your crap.

    What is up with all of the people bashing the setlist? So what if you've never heard of half of this stuff, have you always known the stuff you do like? And a lot of the bands people want wouldn't even be fun on GH. Just because a song is good doesn't mean it should be on GH. Anyways, im off to look some of these up and see if they are good....

    It looks like the setlist is getting worse. Never cared for the games, but I at least liked seeing stuff like Megadeth on there. And I'm going to disagree with whoever said all the Slipknot and other grossly popular stuff. Throw some more lesser known, different stuff in there. Children of Bodom would be pretty sweet, but not the best choice, but then again I'd never see half the stuff I'd love to see in the game.

    i would have to agree with 99% of the comments, what the hell with this setlist? They have access to rob zombie, why not put some more there? some deftones? godsmack?more korn, rush, some good staind songs?3 days grace? why not go for some new rock songs? the good ones, not kings of leon's sex on fire, i hate that song to core!!!!! and probably yet again, no good DLC

    Man why do Song 2? 'cause Rock Band is doing it... they should so have Blur - Girls and Boys, also f**k Blur and put Oasis - Cigarettes and Alcohol in!

    It looks like Guitar hero is trying to ressemble Rock Band with that setlist..... and why didn't I by Rock band? Cause the setlist IS AWEFULL loll. Seriously, they have good artists but it seems that they chose the worst song from everyone of them. They should have included:

    Beastie boys: (You gotta fight) For your right (to party)
    Beck: Where it's at
    Billy Squier: The stroke
    Children of bodom: Kissing the shadow
    Deep purple: Perfect strangers
    Iggy pop: Butt town
    Queens of the stone age: No one knows OR Sick sick sick
    Santana with Chad kroeger: Into the night
    Rolling stones : Miss you

    Anybody agrees???? Check out those songs and you might understand why I think this GH5 setlist is very bad

    Good job for Wolfmother, Thrice, Blur and Coldplay though, good songs from them

    The more I think about it the more I am disappointed in the BOH pick... so many better songs... "The Funeral," "Is There A Ghost?" "No One's Gonna Love You" ...

    Was hoping for a different Band of Horses song. "The General Specific" would have been awesome. Love the lead singer's voice but "Cigarettes, Wedding Bands" isn't going to be that fun to sing. Kind of disappointed in that choice, but I suppose any BOH is better than none...

    One more thing, since the motorhead pack, GHWT hasn't released any decent DLC, i hope that means that they are saving the "good stuff" for GH5,
    I know this is not debate of GH vs RB, but so far the RB's DLC have kept the game alive, weird thing that GHWT was released after RB2 and died pretty quickly
