In World of Warcraft, it's often difficult to avoid long periods of inactivity, like when waiting in queue for an arena tournament or during downtime in a dungeon raid. To get some fun out of these otherwise boring intervals, third-party mod developers have long offered in-game puzzle side games so players can stave off the monotony. Dev-publisher PopCap soon joined the fray, incorporating multiplatinum Bejewelled in September 2008 and Peggle in April 2009 for free.

PopCap announced today another title to its WOW collection with the all-new Peggle World of Warcraft Edition, now available for free download. Cocreated with Blizzard Entertainment, the new stand-alone game boasts 10 franchise-themed levels with backgrounds sketched by Blizzard artists. Players can follow Peggle protagonists Bjorn the Unicorn and Splork as they confront Azeroth's most infamous inhabitants. Many of the edition's challenges and scenes have WOW-themed names, such as "Pwnxia," "Phat Lewtz," and "The Traitor King."

According to PopCap, Peggle has been downloaded more than 50 million times ever since it was released in March 2007. Currently, the series is available on the PC, Nintendo DS, Xbox Live Arcade, several iPod iterations, iPhone, and 650 cell phone models.

For the idiots propagating this rumor about free to play WoW...

Sure, the most popular fee based game in the world will soon become free to play. With the addition of the freeness, the server load will increase over 10X as over 100,000,000 people play the game. After all, it's free. This will be made possible by a massive government subsidy. Activision blizzard isn't in existence to make a profit after all.

Kinda makes me wonder how people can play a game but be bored while they're playing it.

This doesn't make me want to play WoW again; it just makes me want to play Peggle and Bejewelled again!

This actually makes me want to play WoW again. Raiding wouldn't be such a chore with Peggle to keep me company during all the trash and boss fights. Just in time for rolling for the loot.

This game is so aggravatingly addictive. Adding it to a game like WoW seems cruel...nay, evil.
