Battlefield 1943 suffers server snafu

EA Dice's multiplayer-only downloadable shooter experiencing matchmaking technical difficulties after Xbox 360 launch this morning.

EA declared war on Battlefield 1943 today, officially releasing the $15 multiplayer-only downloadable shooter through Xbox Live this morning. However, some gamers may find themselves at a loss as to what their dollars were spent on, as the online matchmaking component for EA Dice's shooter is currently suffering from debilitating technical difficulties.

As related by an in-game ticker and menus observed by GameSpot, Battlefield 1943's current issues appear to be a result of unanticipated high demand. "We are over capacity and adding extra servers which may cause some disconnections, please bear with us," reads one message. "Connection Problem: The game appears to be unavailable, please try again," reads a second message.

According to a post on the official Battlefield 1943 message boards by EA Dice producer Gordon Van Dyke, "Good News, the game is incredibly successful beyond even my expectations. We have reached server capacity, but the bad news about this now some people can't join unless someone leaves. But don't worry, we are adding more servers ASAP to Xbox and in preparation PS3 that should start going up ASAP with priority on Xbox 360."

Van Dyke went on to note that while the team is adding additional servers, players may continue to experience problems "from now until 17:30." And while additional servers appear to have been added, according to a post on the Battlefield 1943 Twitter feed, they were primarily for European gamers.

EA had not responded to requests for an ETA on when servers for all players are expected to normalize. For more information, check out GameSpot's previous coverage of Battlefield 1943.

I actually finally got to play the game last night. Well worth the wait (although it has been a few days)!

the online performance is so bad (for me) that it's virtually unplayable. anyone who hasn't bought yet WAIT until EA officailly announces that more servers are up.

I'm surprised that so many people bought this game...online only? So when people stop playing, that's it...you're done? Throw in some bot battle options like they did in Gears 2 and Killzone 2 and then I'll buy.

This game is good to go. Although I wish it had more trophies.

this game launched on the xbox 360 only (so far) correct? the ps3 servers will be in anticipation of the game actully becoming available for the platform. So why do we feel the need to flame on about PSN (which is inferior in every possible way but price, when the problem lies with EA's servers. in other words servers run by EA, and not MS??? anybody. nice friggin try, go fish somewhere else you fruits.

on topic. from what people have played they SAY IT is BORING and to play bad company instead. I cant say anything myself because i haven't played them but im just spreading what others have said.

to all ps3 fanboys, the reason the 360 version has problems with servers is because MORE PEOPLE PLAY THE 360 VERSION,so the servers get filled way more quickly

As a veteran of the Battlefield series, playing since BF1942's first release back in 2002, I must say that after first hearing about and then downloading and playing BF1943 for the 360 that I have definitely been brought back to the "good ol' days" of the franchise. This "arcade game" is simply fantastic and could easily have been sold as a retail version. :]

so it does work eventually, eh? well i bought it last night, but apparently they ship the engine out at a later date. one thing surprises me: why no WW2 outcry? i mean they went to modern with Bad Company and now it's back to Tojo. i know that caused quite the consternation with COD. ;-)

I couldn't connect at all last night. I totally gave up on Battlefield 1943. I was just trying the demo and decide if I'm going to purchase it. What a disappointment. Hopefully I can connect today and give another shot.

I have a japanese account for psn as well, so I got to play the demo rather early, but when I bought the full game unlock in english it was still all japanese, now I am re-downloading the english demo then downloading the full game unlock -__-

when I tried to get online it said I couldn't get connected to EA, so hopefully the american version will get me connected.

inside sources tell me that for the sake of authenticity, EA is using servers from 1943. they were captured from Hitler's bunker.

    @ imaidiot

I can semi-testify for this process. I downloaded the Facebreaker demo and it got to about 50% when I tried BF1943 again and I was able to login. Strange...I don't think it was related, but...for what it's worth

  • imaidiot

    Posted Jul 9, 2009 10:24 am GMT

For the 360 people with the 'Failed to Connect to EA Servers' issue...To resolve this, you need to download the demo of 'Facebreakers', create and upload a boxer, then just delete the demo, because its crap. This will update your EA profile. Then just go back to 1943 and it should be fixed.

Note: This will not fix the game servers issue, just the connecting to your ea account issue.

i hate ea i pay 15 bucks for a game thats only online keep in mind and they say we need to add servers because there maxed out are they stupid its a ONLY ONLINE GAME so that means alot of people are got to be playing multi player so they should have been ready for this they have a big company image but its run buy people that took the little bus to school im sick of every ea game having trouble with online when the hell are they got to figure it out and get it right. and ea if you read this u should of included a asian hooker with purchase of 1943 because atleast someone could have been playing with a joystick lastnight because i couldent play the game i bought

Yes, "Failed to connect to EA Online." That's the one. Well it's good to know I'm not the only one getting this error. It sucks to know this is still a problem though. I'm really interested in this game but I'm not going to spend $15 before getting an idea for how the game plays.

  • mburns05

    Posted Jul 9, 2009 7:42 am GMT

Do you mean you're getting "Failed to connect to EA Online"? If so, that is the problem for many of us. I've been getting it for 24 hours now.

I downloaded the demo at about 11:30 PM Eastern Time last night. I tried to get online but got an error message saying "Could not connect to EA Searvers." Is that related or is it a completely separate issue? Has anyone else gotten that error with the demo?
