With Halo 3: ODST set for a September 22 release on the Xbox 360, Microsoft continues to keep the game's marketing campaign on a slow burn, dribbling out new information on a semi-regular basis. Today, the game's developer, Bungie Software, unveiled the three new multiplayer maps that will be included with the game as part of its self-proclaimed Bungie Day celebrations.

The first map, Heretic, doesn't entirely fit into the "all-new" category, as it is a re-envisioned take on Halo 2's Midship arena and features a symmetrical play field on the Covenant vessel Pious Inquisitor. Citadel is a small, symmetrical map that plays out in an abandoned Forerunner stronghold. Lastly, Longshore is designed for large squads, taking place within the Old Mombasa commercial port.

Halo 3: ODST will be available for the Xbox 360 as a $59.99 standard edition or as a $99.99 Collector's Pack, which comes with a UNSC-green special edition Halo wireless controller. In addition to the single-player campaign, ODST players gain access to three new multiplayer maps, the Firefight co-op mode, all previously released Halo 3 multiplayer add-on maps, and guaranteed access to the Halo: Reach multiplayer beta.

Interesting voice cast... looks like they picked up nathan fillion (mal) and adam baldwin (jane) from the firefly series. Ill be curious to see who else makes it in that was part of the series.

I'm so happy that ODST is coming out soon! I remember when they were first introduced to the series, I've always wanted to play as them! When I bring my copy home I'll just stare at it in awe for an eternity. Also because I don't have a 360...

This Game Looks Sweet. And Im Super Excited. But I'm Starting to Feel Like it Takes Some of the Bad @$$ ness out of being a Spartan. Think about it. These Big Massively Strong Brutes Swing around Giant Hammers, And you think "I can do that too, Because I'm a Spartan" And Spartans were Genetically Augmented to Be Strong Enough to Do that. Or What about the First Time You Ripped a Turret Off its Base and then Carried This Big Turret around Mowing Covenant, And the Only Reason That big Turret Didn't Rip Your Arm off Was Because You were Bad @#$@@# @$$ Master Chief!!! Now You Can Do All That as Just A Regular Human. Sure an ODST with Minor Strength Enhancing Nano Armor, But Still, Just A Regular Human. Or Boarding Vehicles? Spartans Are Genetically Augmented And Have Powered Armor To Make them Strong Enough and Agile Enough to Jump on a Diving Banshee and Rip The Pilot Out! I dont Know if a Regular Human Could Do That. . .One More Thing. And once again Im not Dissing The Series. I love it. Im Just Thinking. What About Punching Bad Guys? You Could Kill Them With A Wack or two as a Spartan, Because Spartans Are Strong Enough to Flip a 60 Ton Main Battle Tank. But A Regular Human Wacking a Brute To Death? They Sould at Least Have a Knife or Something. I'm Not Trying To Cut Down Halo in any way. All the Games and Literature are My Favorite And i've Played/read All Of them A LOT, But Still. . .

If you already have all the maps, then the value is not really there, but anything Halo that's new is fantastic. I dig the Ghost Recon-like low light accented view.

This game looks awesome!!! I'm so excited. The gameplay looks awesome and combined with the fact that Microsoft and Bungie are giving you a second disc with all the multiplayer maps which can be played right off the disc. Then there is the collector's edition with the awesome controller.

This sounds incredible! If it includes the multiplayer maps, will they play with the Halo 3 game? Either way I am excited. I LOVED midship and I cant wait to see the remake of it!

The entirety of Halo 3's multiplayer: $20 (more or less).
    Legendary Map Pack: $10.
    Mythic Map Pack: $10.
    Heretic, Citadel, Longshore: $10 (assumed).
Halo 3: ODST, including Firefight: $10
    Sgt. Johnson: bonus for Preorder
    Halo: Reach beta: priceless

That's how I break it down to those who thinks ODST does not justify the $60 purchase. I might just sell my copy of Halo 3 to get back the price of the maps that I paid for. Hirumaru from gamefaqs deserve some credit for lines 1-4.

I do LOVE the fact that the pistol is back from halo 2 the fire rate was great.

Just read up on firefight and Im very very impressed. The reason Im posting again is because I absolutely love wave modes in games. And Im talking like warcraft 3 and what not. This sounds like a dream come true, especially since it will incorporate up to 3 other players. I gotta find a way to get this game, and gotta get that money somehow other then robbing a bank. Thats the hard part.

  • Spikedjester

    Posted Jul 8, 2009 12:42 pm PT

Sounds way fun, and I dont even know what firefight is. The only thing holding me back from buying right off is the price. With the economy how it is, I simply cannot afford to buy retail priced video games anymore.

now halo is getting way too confusing with all these cheap games trying to get money out of halo lovers. just reaching way to much. il just go with the modern warfare. will be way bettter

*All vidmaster challenges, not just the three with recon, the four with Halo 3. And yes, you have to get the annual challenge done :[

  • Cowlord361

    Posted Jul 8, 2009 10:03 am PT

You people are forgetting that with the last three mythic maps you can get the last three mythic skulls. Also, you can get the last three vidmaster challenges. Complete these and get all 6 mythic skulls, and you get Recon armor! No matter how many times I tell myself that, it still seems pricey :[

expensive as hell, the halo fanboy in me cannot go that far anymore, if this was released sooner while halo still lingered in everyone's minds, i'm sure more people would buy it, but at this point many other great games have come out, so i'm guessing an extension of halo 3 with a price tag like that won't have as many fanboys drooling after it, though i'm sure there will always be a number of fans still below the age of 13 who cling on ever so faithfully

@captainwonton The game will have co-op but I think it will only be in firefight. As far as I have heard I don't think there will be 4 player co-op in the campaign.

I need a new controller so I pre-ordered the limited edition, doesn't make much of a difference if you buy the standard edition and purchase a controller separately anyway. Oh well, looking forward to it.

There are too many people complaining about Halo 3: ODST. Well Halo is perfect, ODST is perfect, the characters are perfect, and yes ODST will feel like any other Halo game. People should stop b&%$#@?g about the $99.99 price for the only version worth releasing. The Halo franchise is awesome and you people should worship Halo and everything Halo related as the amazingly pure awesomeness it is and shut the f&$k up if you don't have anything positive to say about the greatest franchise in the world which is better then anything sony or nintendo has to offer.
