Although the primetime NBC trivia show 1 vs. 100 went off the air in February 2008, the series lives on as an interactive online game adaptation offered in beta form through Xbox Live. But where the television show tantalized contestants with a $1 million reward, the Xbox 360 game show currently offers no tangible prizes--though that will soon change, according to Microsoft.

Starting this Friday, the show's online contestants will be eligible for prizes such as Xbox Live Arcade titles and HDTVs if their trivia knowledge is up to snuff. The lead contestant ("the One"), can win up to 10,000 Microsoft points ($125) by outlasting all 100 opponents ("the Mob"). Members of the Mob will be able to win Xbox Live Arcade games of Microsoft's choosing, as well as up to 800 Microsoft points ($10). Those watching the show unfold and playing along as part of "The Crowd" are also eligible to earn a free Live Arcade game if they finish in the top three scores. All participants will be entered into a sweepstakes drawing for a Zune or an HDTV home theater system.

Contestants for The One and The Mob will be picked based on their previous performance in the game, with only Xbox Live Gold members allowed to participate. Moreover, contestants from Connecticut, Iowa, Vermont, Maryland, and Quebec will not be eligible to win prizes. For those who are eligible, the prize packages will last through 1 vs. 100 Live "Season 1," which ends August 29.

Nice. I like it when I hear stories of big corporations giving out prizes for stuff like this. I usually find that this doesnt happen often because such corporations are usually money hungry to death. Even tho I wont be playing or participating, I still have to say, "Good Job, Microsoft."

None of this good stuff is available in the Netherlands. Just like we have no downloadable movies. We miss out on a lot of good Xbox 360 things, MS has to offer...

I guess I will start playing this again but I most likely do not stand a chance in hell to ever even make it to the mob

Why can't Microsoft bring this worldwide like to Australia. I would love to play this game and get prizes. Please bring it to Australia!!! Australia usually gets nothing.

I love how avatars always look normal in everything Microsoft shows off, but every time I've played 1 vs 100, it shows how crazy they get. I doubt many people take this avatar system all that seriously. xD

    Woah, now wait a minute.

I'm more of a lurker around here, but I had to respond to this one.

Where did GS get the idea that those states weren't eligible to win prizes? Those states aren't eligible for "skill-based" questions, but that doesn't mean they aren't eligible to win prizes.

Or can anyone actually confirm that those states are ineligible for the prizes?

Awesome! I felt kind of hollow knowing that the two times I was in the mob and won wasn't actually worth much. Now let's hope I can do it again

I played the open beta last weekend when silver users were allowed in. I have to say, it was pretty fun and good to see how much I knew and how much I didn't. I'm not sure if I'd be willing to jump to gold for this (I don't really play online games too much), but if you have it, it's definitely worth the play.

Not worth getting a gold subscription yet. Microsoft really needs to do better to get 50 bucks a year from me. Heck that's one extra game a year versus crappy online experience. The prizes would be better if there was anything woth the MS points anymore.

To win big prizes is assuming you make it as the mob or the "One". I played the game for about 20+ hours and never once made it to the mob or "one" and I answered most of the questions correctly. And good luck being one of the top three in a room filled with over 100,000 players.

Unheard-Volume, that is quite the comment. Offering prizes for being good isn't uncommon, and I'm willing to bet most won't get any.

The graphics aren't trying to do something crazy, and the entire concept is borrowed off a tv show. Not very original, all in all the gaming industry will continue unchanged.

Now if you could just make it cross platform with the PC, we might have something truly revolutionary in the works.

@ Barighm I was thinking the same thing but then i saw the movie that is linked they give you like 4 seconds to answer a question way too little time to cheat barely enough to read the answers so unless you have a room full of friends of helping fat chance using the internet

  • Unheard-Volume

You don't have enough time at all to Google Search the answers. You have just a few seconds, and the faster you answer the more points you get.

I could never connect to the game for some reason. No matter. It's a trivia game, so it's pretty easy to cheat (assuming there is a way to combat cheating; I dunno. Could never play)

Chances are that they "shafted" you because of laws specific to your state and it had nothing to do with their own choice.

I wish that we could be able to pick the Arcade game if we won, but I guess you can't have everything, right?
