Square Enix teaser revealed to be new Final Fantasy DS
Weekly Shonen Jump spoils publisher's announcement of Four Warriors of Light for Nintendo's handheld; turn-based RPG slated for Japan this fall.
With more than 100 hours left to be counted off on Square Enix's Japanese-language teaser site launched last week, the site continues to have new elements added to it. The original teaser page merely showed sketches of a village and the number "4," but the site now displays hand-drawn artwork of a young boy wielding a sword while atop a dragon, with a young girl also perched upon the airborne serpent's back.
Unfortunately for Square Enix, the placid pace at which it had hoped to reveal its latest game has been spoiled in a most perfunctory way. Today, scans of the most recent issue of Japanese magazine Weekly Shonen Jump have surfaced online revealing the game to be Four Warriors of Light: Final Fantasy Gaiden for the DS. (Scans of the announcement were obtained by True Gaming and translated by GameSpot.)
According to Weekly Shonen Jump's blowout on the game, Four Warriors of Light is a turn-based role-playing game slated to arrive for the DS in Japan this fall. The game follows the travails of a 14-year-old boy who has been sent by a king to rescue a princess from a wicked witch, the Japanese magazine reports.
As for gameplay features, Four Warriors of Light lets players command a four-character squad of adventurers of various archetypes. Weekly Shonen Jump also notes that each character's appearance will change as players acquire and equip weapons and armor.
Weekly Shonen Jump did not indicate whether Four Warriors of Light would see release outside of Japan. Square Enix had not responded to GameSpot's request for comment as of press time.
