Dreamkiller Aspyrs to 360, PCs in October

Aspyr Media to publish Mindware Studios' horror-themed first-person shooter later this year.

Outside of soldiers, athletes, and city planners, few professions are readily adapted to games. Czech developer Mindware Studios and Texas-based publisher Aspyr Media are taking a stab at adding psychologist to the list later this year with the release of Dreamkiller on the Xbox 360 and PC.

Better living through high-caliber psychology.

A first-person shooter, Dreamkiller puts players in the role of Alice Drake, a supernatural psychologist with the unique ability to enter her patients' minds and fight their inner demons in the most literal sense. Drake will traverse the game's 12 levels not with textbooks and theory, but with an arsenal of special abilities and dual-purpose weapons, such as a minigun that also lobs grenades at enemies.

This is not the first time Mindware has meddled with the first-person shooter genre. The studio previously developed 2005's stealth-based Cold War, as well as 2007's Painkiller: Overdose.

    Psychonauts with guns....At least it probably won't have those atrociously difficult platforming sections.

    This sounds absolutely horrible. I agree with those of you saying it would better suit adventure/mystery genre. This is just too implausible and contrived.

    i like how there seems to be a trend towards more surreal games. be a long time before they get like paprika though.

    @okassar, PC people don't really like games developed cross platform cos it's telling of a few things for example the graphics won't be as decent as they cud of been, also any game u have to press Space or Enter to start, u know is a cross platform. Like in Prototype also for PC, it has no GFX options, such cross platform crap.

    Sounds interesting, but something worries me: the story sounds more appropriate for and adventure game. How will they justify the use of weapons? Will each weapon have a psychology related theory that makes it stronger against certain problem/enemy? That would be nice.

    I'll be checking it when it's released for sure, even if I don't like shooters too much.

    Loved 'Pain Killer' on my PC, ingenious weapon systems, VERY large bosses, gonna keep my eye on this.

    ofcourse it's going to look 10 times better on pc cuz 360 is just a mid-end pc maybe.........

    Alright,this game sounds creative and it seems like if it actually becomes what they are making it out to be and has the right controls and graphics and everything,I'll buy it.But come on,I don't like when people cheer that something is not on another system.I have the 360,and I could get this game when it comes out,but why would I,even in the slightest,be happy that it's not coming out on the PS3 and that less people get to enjoy the game?Same applies to fanboys on the other 2 sides when the same thing happens to them.For God's sake...

    the plot sounds interesting, the gameplay pretty much predictable if it is an old-school FPS; i like FPS, lets c what else can writers imagination do; ill play it anyways

    Looks to be like a fast paced old school FPS, similar to Painkiller, Quake 1 and pre Doom 3.

    Somehow I'm reminded of Prey I don't know why. Not that that's a bad thing I mean it was an original and interesting game around the time of its initial release.

    Kinda funny how even though the Wiimote's design makes it perfectly ideal for these kinds of games, very few FPS's are being designed for the system, and the majority of them are very poor in terms of quality.
