It's been said that familiarity breeds contempt, but Microsoft is hoping it instead breeds revenue. The Xbox 360 maker is adding two installments of very familiar series to its Xbox Live Arcade service this week: The King of Fighters '98 Ultimate Match and Worms 2: Armageddon.

An adaptation of SNK's NeoGeo fighter The King of Fighters '98, Ultimate Match adds new characters to the game's already considerable roster of more than 50 brawlers. Ultimate Match also adds new practice and challenge modes, as well as other special features.

Not to be confused with 1997's Worms 2 or 1999's Worms: Armageddon, Team 17's Worms 2: Armageddon follows up on the original Xbox Live Arcade Worms game with a 30-mission campaign, unlockable missions, four multiplayer game types, and more. However, the game isn't completely divorced from its similar sounding predecessors, as Team 17 is paying homage to previous entries with the return of such fan-favorite weapons as the Holy Hand Grenade.

Both The King of Fighters '98 Ultimate Match and Worms 2: Armageddon will debut on Xbox Live Arcade this Wednesday, each selling for 800 Microsoft points ($10).

    I love KOF but I rather save my money for KOF 12. tho I'm so glad that more 2D games are coming out. this is amazing. "KOF 4 Life!!!!!"

    I am all for KoF '98 but Marvel v Capcom 2 has been pushed back till late July, come on!

    SNK have been milking the KoF franchise for almost two decades and it is still going strong. Now that is good business sense. XBLA is awesome. I just need a 360 to use it on. Come on M$, redesign the 360 and I'm sold.

    Capcom's official Twitter page confirmed MvC2 for a late JULY release already, so...

    I will be getting both of these. 1600MSP away!

    800 points is just too expensive.

    Almost everything on both XBL and PSN, bar full game downloads such as Watchmen and add-ons like GTA:TLaD, is waaaaay overpriced. Most things should be half the price that they're at.... I mean, come on - $10 for a game from the late 90's, when I could probably buy a real physical copy of it AND the machine it ran on for little more than that...

    I have a few things downloaded from both XBL and PSN, but it's very little to what I would consider downloading if only they lowered the prices... they're just too greedy for me

    Pass. Im started to tire of ports or remakes of very old games being on XBLA It's a lazy way of making money. Altred beast, Sonic (Again) Comix zone and now more KOF 10 years old. I want more excellent original games like Braid,Castle Crashers and the ACE upcoming Shadow complex to play

    KoF 94 on VC, KoF 99 on PSN and now KoF 98 on XBLA. Awesome lineup, it's too bad the other two doesn't had online play like KoF 98 XBLA though.

    ya, they have blazblu listed for release at the end of july, i think it ships today, should be in stores tomorrow, at least thats what pre reservation slip says

    Seriously guys, get KoF '98 UM. It may play too simular to the original, but for the first time, every single character from the Orochi saga is playable. If this game had online rankings and online multiplayer, I wouldn't have to even ask. Still, get it anyways. =P

    This new series of Worms isn't going to live up to the originals, but Worms 2 is a step forward at least. Holy Hand Grenade, prepare to sing to me...

    King of Fighters 98 is a really great game.

    Over 50 fighters with updated graphics like this and remixed 5.1 sound is really cool.

    That's true konradak, but the inclusion of the Holy Hand Grenade in this version is a damned good start for revitalizing the series on consoles (Xbox in particular).

    Bleh. The first Worms on Live was a stripped down cousin of the old Worms games on the PC. THOSE were the games to play. Worms 2 looks a little better than their previous attempt, but I have a feeling it'll still be a big stripped down version of the king of Worms, Worms Armageddon

    nice, kof 98 is considered the best in series. worms 2 is awesome as well. $10 is a fraction of what i paid for an aes cartridge. i wouldn't want to use a 360 controller tho.

    finally they picked one of the best of the series to redo on XBLA. I guess it's time to spring for an arcade stick, or I could probably save money and just buy the MVS version of KOF 98, probably cheaper than XBLA and decent stick.
